in the street fight there is no rules on the street it don't matter how big or small a person is just smash them quick and fast eyes, throat, groin, nose, knees, temple, fingers, objects around you get in get out don't play around
I like his comments that the reality is that the bigger guy is going to smash you if you stay on the ground, and you never know when one of his friends is going to step. It's far better to get your one or two licks in and GTFO.
in all respect to this gentleman, only richard dimitri(senshido) & david james(vee arnis jitsu) address this issue the best...honourable mention nick drossos(self defense solutions)
doesnt this put him at the advantage? he could knee u in the face or go for a grab if your covering your whole head like that. If he's fast enough he might even redirect is punch downward or turn it into some kind of head lock. Seems kind of risky
All this is is another version of a duck, no big deal. In fact in a REAL fight, which yes I have been in real fights where someone was 4 inches taller, 130lbs heavier with long reach, full of fury, rage and anger and throwing whirlwind of punches at me non stop fast and most people don't punch with the big exaggerated wide punches that are easy to block. Many people tend to punch straight in at you like a boxer, even though who are untrained. Ducking does usually work though.
this works guys. im not a MMA guy even though i wrestle and box a bit ill tell you its not the same as a street fight. youre not letting your eyes off the guy like you think, youre looking at his legs and ducking a big punch from a big guy whos off balance you have an edge if you explode inside you just dont wanna get clinched,
so many moves you see online like they said, dont work. this is simple and works against your average bar brawler very well
What if it's a straight punch? Try ducking that, and then dodging the incoming knee. You're taking your eyes off of your opponent. And I totally agree with you on the wrestling giants part: I'd rather deal one swift blow than to do some Jiu-Jitsu technique. Though sometimes that's not the case. A regular schoolyard bully's punches should be capable of blocking with a nice rising block.
Classic boxing move: get inside where the punches can't land cleanly. Then trip the attacker to the ground, get the fuck out of there. Makes sense to me as a non-martial art trained, skinny weed with no guts for a fight.
Your block does not work because you do not do it properly. (if you want details... you're off balance, you do not have structure and you do not angle it properly. And that is just the obvious.)
Let me point out that what you propose is NOT a block. It's a cover. Basically, it's a last ditch attempt to avoid injury. Definitely NOT the best way to deal with this situation.
Great job making the illusion stronger that a bigger opponent is gonna have more strenght and punch harder... Damn ignorant stereo types that prove people in this video have never really been in a street fight and knows nothing about what they talk about. Peace. Know something. Then teach others to know it too. This is pure ignorance in all ways. The throw is pathetic. Specially if u fighting against much bigger and heavier opponent than yourself. U want something that works? /watch?v=eH5KJxgSk-Q
@spongejerkin305 Not likely to happen. Every one is trying to knock you out in one punch. Iam 5-9 165 and Take people down at will allthe time with duck and head to chest techinque.I like the flip move they showed.
@Bonerboy2011 No one is taking their eyes off their opponent. The art of crashing in is making a "connection" with your opponent to take them down. If I stand on the outside and trade punches with a bigger stronger attacker, I'll be floored. But if I can crash in, take their back, and easily take them to the ground. I win.
@Flamestrke if you stick your head to their chest and cover like the guy on the video you will not know where a lot of other stuff is coming. The technique is not invalid, but it is a committing move which could turn disastrous if the larger guys is trained or smart. I would prefer to kick at the lower body (nut-shot / knees), close the gap, then bring the opponent down with the big guns. It is harder to defend lower kicks when you are punching.
@Bonerboy2011 That's I was thinking, how the f does their way of going up against bigger targets, going to work? I feel terribly bad for the smaller guys; guess size does matter. Luckily for me, I'm two hundred pounds; so, only big guy that could possibly kick my ass would have to be a bodybuilder.
@sam98177 Just because someone is a body builder doesn't automatically make them able to fight! Usually they are in fact slower and less flexible. BUT if they do land a punch it'd gonna do damage most likely.
I like videos that acknowledge the reality that a lot of textbook techniques may not work against every opponent, whether they're bigger or what have you. There may be issues pulling this technique off against everyone, such as a boxer-type who throws and keeps good balance but against a big haymaker strike, which is probably what u will see 99% of the time in a real situation in a club or other venue outside of the ring, seems like a real practical technique. And bravo on the strike and leave!
Surely its safer to keep your distance than move in to the danger zone? I would have thought a half stride back away then a good side stamp/kick into their groin/lower stomach area would give you a good element of surprise and may deter the other dude from carrying on his attack? if not you could carry on with a few kicks to his knees or the side of his legs? id rather be as far as possible from a big lad!
What I like about this is that it deals with handling a bigger, stronger person who's more of a bully rather than someone who's trying to kill you. Other videos I've seen teach from the assumption that your bigger attacker is trying to kill you so they recommend eye, throat and groin strikes. That can be too much if you're just dealing with a school yard bully type.
hi am a thai boxer and i think that guard is pritty good for closing space down i like to leave one elbow slighty forward even though this is slightly vunerable to uppercuts most fights start with a jab or a big right cross they dont throw many more after hiting your elbow a few times it works for me anyway :)
Alright, since you said "Keep asking questions.", here goes (lol):
I basically just wanna learn how I would take down some guy at school (I'm in highschool) that was, say talking trash and pushing me. I'm not too short, but I am skinny, and so in arguments I usually get pushed around. So my question is, if some guy that's bigger than me decides to shove me (not necessarily punch), how would I kinda bring him down and show him... that I got game... lol.
@gb9514 just a few suggestions 1) Pointing your towards him with one foot further back than the other, bend you legs very very slightly (hardly noticable) then push your legs against the ground driving that momentum into your push. 2) Stand on one of his feet as you push him so he cant move it as his body goes backwards. 3) Using your palm push upwards against his jaw so his head falls backwards of centereing his centre of gravity, and push him with your other hand or trip him up. Practice 1st.
when you grab his back and slam him to the ground, he can easily counter you with a leg lock, so this really isnt the most useful tip if your opponent knows how to fight
That's actually Tani Otoshi in Judo. works wonders though; believe me. it WILL work on a bigger guy because when you spun behind him to take his back, you've shifted his weight and the momentum will bring him down. Issac Newton called it "Inertia."
Ok i know it says Self Defence and this is all this really is but just because you duck and throw him on the ground isnt defeating an opponent. This is just telling you like what to do if you get attacked. I wanna know how to completely win in a fight with a taller guy because im only like 5'7" and Im pickin a fight with a much larger guy, possibly over 6ft.
whats the strength or weight difference and background for either? (wrestling, boxing,) i do both and some jiu jitsu. im a shorter guy too. esp for my weight class
a realistic strategy for real life situation for people, great job. this isnt the gym or the ring and its totally different.
unless youre reallly good at JJ or the guy reallly sucks, trying to pull off a submission vs someone way bigger then you in the parking lot isnt ideal. you often have to work for it while getting cracked with a bareknuckle in the face.
I watched the video and experimented a little bit with having the same basic defense as the instructor in the video (i.e., forearms and elbow protecting the head), but noticed that the defense protects different parts of the head depending on hand position. Should I cover my ears or anything like that (fist to the ears doesn't seem too pleasant)? Or does hand position not really matter as long as its on the head (and since you're gonna be moving out of the way while blocking)? Thanks!
@matrix1240 Oh yeah, almost forgot. When experimenting with different hand positions on my head, I stared at a point on the screen to see how much my forearms covered my vision (or rather, protected my eyes). Thanks again, and I'd appreciate any advice you can give me!

Lessons learned:
1. A guy who doesn't understand the mechanics of blocking is competent to criticize it.
2. Raising your arm yo protect yourself takes too much time and effort. Raising BOTH arms AND squatting is much faster an easier to do.
3. If you're fighting a bigger guy - wrestle him briefly.
4. DON'T go to the ground - but do it anyway...
