@hcwcars1 are you serious? were you even listening to the video? This kid is extraordinary, he's one of the most hardworking, dedicated students that our country has to offer and you want to send him back for something that he did not do, You're throwing away a potential Steve Jobs.
Reagan granted citizenship around 1986 to all illegals here at the time, and NOTHING has changed, except now we're facing another amnesty. When will it end? The border has to be secured first before I'll ever support any kind of amnesty for anyone here illegally.
@libertyforus1 I definitely see your point, you have a valid agrument. However, I'm a high school student, and I have friends in the same boat as this kid here. I don't think that it is amnesty to let great kids like Elier thrive in school and help our economy.
@ncdork08 Part of what you say is true, but he will be able to petition for citizenship for everybody in his family. It may take years, but it will happen. The U.S. has to secure our borders in order to secure our nation and our people. Stop allowing people to freely cross the borders in the first place and this kind of issues will never arise. Stop the leak before granting any kind of citizenship to anyone.
The DreamAct then allows Elier to apply for citizenship for his illegal parents who brought him here in the first place! Reward the adults who knew better? Who broke our laws? Not only his parents, but he can also petition for brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, etc. Chain migration, it's called. Fix that and you will get more support for helping the poor kids who didn't have a choice but to come here with their illegal parents.
@libertyforus1 the Dream Act will not grant you citizenship for the next 15 years.. you CANNOT request anyone from your family till you are a citizen of the US. The Dream Act will give you coniditional residency for ten years and then permanent residency after that, and then you have to wait at least 5 yrs being a permanent resident before applying for citizenship. Therefore he cannot request anyone until that time. Also, it's in the law that you can only request parents and siblings.
@libertyforus1 Also, the waiting time for your siblings to get a green card being requested from a brother or sister is 13 years. His siblings would have to wait 13 years to get a green card through him and I'm sure they would be eligible for the Dream Act also or maybe they get married and get requested by their spouses. Also, you CANNOT request aunts, cousins, grandparents... only immediate family and nobody else. I hope that clarified this and maybe you can support this Act which is fair.
@libertyforus1 Trust me, I know this law like the palm of my hand... I have been studying it and going over it, every change that has been made to it, every single thing. I am not lying to you. He won't be able to request many people and if he does, it'll be at least 13 years from now... which is a long time...
@kcollins7866 I agree with you, but it wouldn't be right to send him back a place he doesn't know anything about. This kid was raised here... I don't remember anything from when I was four so I know he doesn't remember Mexico..
your a great person!

"The DREAM Act is not an amnesty: Rather, it creates a well-defined
process to legalize only those who grew up here and who earn status by staying in school and
maintaining good moral character. "

Actually his parents, who brought him to the US when he was 4, are responsible for the 'extra pain' he endures.
