I like the fact the camera shakes every time he fires the Revolver, that just tells you that those .357 Rounds have good amount of Kick to it, powerful and it's a perfectly balanced firearm.
That's a beautiful gun. I'm a fan of revolvers. I own a 65-3 that is about 27 years old, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Hopefully on Friday I will purchase a 4" GP100 that is at my local gun shop. Thanks for uploading this.
@zboyco, I just lost mine in a horrifically stupid incident where even the ATF was like "wtf?" and those guys....well anyway...it made me really sad because I liked it ALMOST as much as my Glock 19 (which I also had to sell, along with a Kimber TLE 2 1911 .45, two Beretta 92s, and a Springfield XDm .40, which was the best along with the Glock 19 and the Ruger). Which I found interesting because the Kimber was an $1000 gun, made for SWAT and SIS, yet the Glock 19, Taurus-PT 92-
@zboyco, and eventually once I learned how different it is to fire a revolver effectively than a semi-auto, I also outshot the Kimber, my buddy's SIG P226, a Smith & Wesson M&Pc (which is an amazing semi-auto), and a whole range of other guns-all with the Glock 19, the Ruger, a snub S&W .357 (with mainly .38s going in), and the Springfield XDm. I was really surprised by the results, not so much with the Springfield as it has quite the rep-the Glock is considered middle-range, the revolvers
@Mr291229, were old as beaters over 30 years. My police shooter was a 1976 200th anniversary edition (U.S, obviously :P)
It fired as great as the day it was made I'm sure. Even though when I got it-it was not rust-covered, but getting there. Mine was black and had a "very healthy" amount of holster and battle-wear on it lol. I miss it so much. Fucking pawn shop tried to say I was doing a "straw sale" getting back my own gun!
@hovanti, that's EXACTLY what I got. Well, my friend got it and an XD 40 for 250 bucks for both!!! it was an obvious steal. He lent the 357 to me and I don't plan on giving it back, tee-hee (I of course wll be giving him money)
@zboyco I'm so glad I listen to your advice about the 357 ruger GP100 over the Taurus 357, I'm enjoying and it's going to strong, oh it's also my ccw gun as well.
@AWkid22 well those people are crazy cause this in ways is better than .44, its cheaper, more practical, and like a .44 no one will be standing after getting hit by it
Hey zboyco I thought what u said about the taurus and after hearing so many up and down review about them, I decided to stay away from and it, so I bought the ruger 357 GP-100. And you were right about the ruger's these guns are built like a tank.
Question what's the best ammo to get for a 357 for critical defense, I was thinking either hollow point or hydroshok, also what grained is decent enough where it will not go through my walls. thank you.
@zboyco You know something I'm getting frustrated with the gun store in my county here in Florida, I wanted to get the best ammo like gold dot or hydrashock, forget about it they don't really sell any Corbon ammo, none of the about what's another good ammo for self defense, is winchester or remington have good ammo as well, if so please share with me. Also I bought some ammo from wal-mart and thought I got JHP but instead I got JSP is JSP a good defense round?
@zboyco Ok sounds good, is there any way where I can buy bulk ammo and if so what's the website information, I rather get some bulk then spending almost $30 for 20 to 25 rounds of ammo?
@ToonandBBfan They switched due to capacity and the ability to reload quicker. But the one downfall of using a 357 mag for police work is over penetration.
@recruit71 Is too much penetration not good, I think I like it, to put the bad guy down quick with one shot. I use to have a 357 smith&wesson 4' barrel and I really miss that gun, I'm thinking of getting another one.
@Mr291229 I personally like the round. But the round can easily over penetrate and enter another person, ie and incocent bystander. And in Law Enforcement, you never have that "perfect" shot opportunity. There are always going to be bystanders behind or near your target. Thats way the .40 cal is popular. A good .40 cal hollow point wont over penetrate. And if it does, it has incredibly less energy after passing through your suspect.
@recruit71 You know something I never thought of it that way, and you're right, I don't want any innocent bystanders getting hurt because of a miss shot or over penetration, I'm just so use to it because that was my work gun when I was doing Armed Guard for a bank and Armored Truck.
@ToonandBBfan They switched due to capacity and the ability to reload quicker. But the one downfall of using a 357 mag for police work is over penetration.
@recruit71 I'm also use to hearing the bigger the caliber the better but you made me realizing how dangerous over penetration is. I need to be carefull of what I choose now, well what gun do you recommend for cww other than the 357 magnum.
@Mr291229 If you are comfortable using a .357 revolver then use one of those. I prefer a Glock .40 model 23, I have carried on and off duty for 4 years so i trust my life with it. I would recomend a .40 or .45. The bullets are bigger in diameter but they are traveling at a slower velocity. Where as a .357 is a magnum cartridge traveling at a higher/faster velocity.
@recruit71 I've been thinking of getting a forty-five, I like them alot, I had one right after I sold my 357 in chicago, now that I'm back in Florida, I'm considering of getting another 45. Thank you for your advice.
@recruit71 Now this is going to sound crazy and funny, when I got my first Armed Guard Bank Security Officer, I wanted to by a 44 magnum for my duty weapon and my boss found out what I was going to purchase and laugh so hard and then said are you crazy, no man you can't have a 44. I still laugh at it still till this day, I know what i was thinking. hahaaha lol
@ToonandBB I atteneded high school in houston, tx in the 80's, and boy I tell you the police and the constables in houston all had .357, your statement is very true... my dad bought the C.O.P. compact off duty polce revolver--it fired.38..357 & .22LR-4barrel--excellent gun specially .357 rounds....
as in all weapons, the more you use it the more the action gets broken in and smoother. but with a revolver, its going to fire right out the box being the most dependable out there
Oh yes. I forgot that the 6 rounds are compiled together with the HKS. I am use to old fashion, basic learning of gun loading from my rifle coach from high school.
usually around 25$ for 50 rounds. this is if you buy actual .357 rounds. you can purchase .38 special for about 15 or so, but these lack the punch that you like so much in the .357 rounds.
plus the smell of spent powder is amazing with .357 haha
I don't understand how you fire it. Why is the trigger already back when you fire, and how do you fire it (by releasing the finger forward? What if you don't want to fire?)
you can either fire it just by pulling the trigger or pulling back the hammer which cocks back the trigger like you were inquiring about and then just pull the trigger. i was firing it single action because its a lighter trigger pull when doing that increasing my accuracy.
The gun can be fired by pulling the trigger and never touching the hammer. He has chosen to pull the hammer back, because he thinks it is more accurate that way.I have done it both ways and it is optional.

Anybody know exactly why police departments phased revolvers out?
They fire more powerful cartridges.
jroberts7387 2 years ago
I heard that there was a public outcry that police .357's were doing to much damage to criminals (dont know if its true or not)
Also. I suspect the fact that 9mm or .40S&W ammo is cheaper may have been a factor.
Then theres the argument of a higher capacity
ToonandBBfan 2 years ago 8
Well some police forces still use revolvers but they are being phased out because of the reasons you mentioned.

zboyco 3 years ago
You need a shotgun certificate to own a double barrel or a pump/automatic but it cant have a larger capacity than 2+1.
I think you need a police check and someone to vouch for you to obtain the licence.
To own a rifle is even harder because you then need a fire arms certificate (they are much harder to get I'm told).
All handguns are illegal here.
