The content of this add is basically true. The bill introduced wouldn't make mass euthanasia mandated but it would make the scenario in the film possible. Once you undermine the protections put in place by the present bill then time and money become more important than protection of pets. Humane considerations must trump cost cutting measures when dealing with our companion animals. We take on that responsibility when we breed them and train them to trust and serve us. Fact check it yourself.

Talk about the perfect attack ad. Since it's mostly whites who are his supporters AND it's whites who are the most dog-liking group, it's perfectly targeted. Now, if we really want to stop the mass killing of shelter pets, we'd have to have a federal law to mandate spaying and neutering of pets at the kitten or puppy mills. And jail unlicensed and noncompliant breeders. You buy a pet, it comes pre-fixed. The need to euthanize pets comes from an oversupply of pets from "freedom of breeding".

Many people will not spay/neuter their animals if it costs money to do so, or if it is inconvenient to their schedule.

Actually, there are many better things that can be and have been done. To start with there doesn't have to be "unwanted" pets in shelters ~ people can spay and neuter to prevent accidental litters. Not all pets in shelters get euthanized ~ people adopt them. There are more humane ways to euthanize ~ this is torture that is akin to the Holocaust. An action like this, to even propose this law is taking animal sheltering and humane societies several steps backwards.

If more people spoke out about abuse to animals and held our elected officials responsible it would be a better world for us all. @SoCalWolfGal I am an animal lover, with dogs, reptiles, and fish in my home; but Illinois has had numerous animal abuse loopholes in the past, and I wouldn't fault Senator Brady for them. Illinois also allows you to slaughter horses. In the eyes of the law, animals are property, and you cannot place enormous restrictions on what you can do with animals. Most IL Animal shelters are kill too.

This is very, very inhumane practice not only from the poor animals who suffer in agony, but for the workers who have to send these animals to their torturous death . There have been numerous studies done about the high rate of suicide in the people who have to work in these kill shelters. Just because it is the law doesn't make it right or humane, or doesn't mean that it cannot be changed.

Looks like gassing one animal at a time was already legal, and that in Februrary 2010 Brady shelved the bill to because he didn't want to support it. However, he is proposing a bill to ban same sex and even civil unions in Illinois, according to CBS2Chicago.
