  • I have 4870 and 4890, but my CCC, Catalyst doesn;t give me the crossfire Option.. am i to download something to enable Crossfire?

  • can i crosfire a 4850 and a 4870 both palit sonics

  • what the hell, he says two 4850's in crossfire will beat a 4870x2.

But two 4870's in crossfire wont beat the 4870x2 o.0

A little error there i think. two 4870's in crossfire is the most powerful option of the bunch.

  • I have a ASUS 4870 1GB with the Glaciator cooler and I want to Crossfire... but can't find it on the market any more (Greece)

Q1: Can I use the Sapphire 4870 to CF them?

    I have currently a Coolermaster RealPower M520 520Watt PSU

Q2: Should I upgrade to a more powerful PSU for crossfire'n? I have a i7 920 on the MSI Eclipse with 3 Sata drives and waiting for a 4th drive.

  • I would upgrade to an 800 watt power supply and at least 60 amps on a single 12 volt rail and make sure its crossfire compatible.

  • I think this guy is anoying.. xP he's not so cleaver.. I don't like his videos

  • i meant video

  • with what web cam you did this?

  • 2x4850 will quite easily beat a 4890. Not sure why hes saying its slightly quicker than a 4870

  • i guess he said that because at that time at 15 august 2008, there weren't many games that the 4870 alone couldn't handle still a 4870 handles lots of games fine. its just that in some cases 4850 were faster , but if you'd look at the price the 4850's were more expensive.

  • will a 600 wat runs 2 4870 in crossfire

  • Ya, they are rite x2 4850s are better then a single 4870, however, i would like to know how a 4850x2 compares to a x2 4870s ftw config.

  • He doesnt know what hes talking about the 4850 is not far behind the 4870, so it will be alot better then a single 4870 not just slightly...

  • i have 2 4850's in crossfire and my friend has a single 4870 and the crossfire SMOKES the 4870.

  • Comment removed

  • erm.. quite obvious. look at the ratio.

    one 4850 is 75% of the 4870

Two 4850's means it is 75% + 37.5% of the 4870. making it 125.5% higher than the 4870.

  • @victorishotandsexy yes thats true, but i think anyone should go for the more power card first being that crossfire doesnt gives you 100% at best 70.

    2 4850 is not cheaper than 1 4870,

and 4870 is GDDR5, which is faster the the 4850's GDDR3

  • @CRW5900

    thats right

using 8x/8x crossfire mode cant 100% performance

but if using expensive mobo 16x/16x crossefire mode can be double performance than single card

  • @ajstyles1020

Yah especially the toxic version of the 5850 which is like 30 to 50$ more only and pretty near the 4870--- Though it may have not been out at this time. Whether it was or not doesn't take away from the fact that it's weird he said 4850x2 and 4870 where almost same.

  • @ganjar420

Wait woops, this is the 4000 series, I am not familiar with them. My bro only has SLI x16 and x4, so this could be an option for him. He has PCI-E 2.0 ore maybe 2.1 - but I hear the only card that exceeds PCIE 1.0 x16 is like a GTX 295 (maybe just under, or jsut over) and cards beyond. So PCI-e 2.0 x8 would be enough for it, and his times x4 slot means he could SLI anything equivalant or under a GTX 275 bandwith without having a bottleneck.

  • this guy is talkign crap, check toms charts they tell different to this, 2 X 4850 1GB out perform 1 X 4890 and 1 X GTX275

  • I've also read the same from other sites.

    2 4850's CF > 4890

    2 4850's CF ~/= 2 4870 CF

  • not really true. 2 4850's are around the same as 4890's. dont know about the 2nd one though. im happy with my crossfire 4850's. (: bang for buck FTW!

  • @victorishotandsexy well i am not sure about that, is not that your cards are bad, its just that crossfire does not give 100% performance, and a single 4890 uses less power and probably better performance.and i dont think that 2 4850 are cheaper. nice configuration though=) whats ur system.? btw i am using HD4890;) cheers mate!

  • 955BE 4ghz using v8cooler and mx2 thermal paste. (:

2 xfx4870 1gb gddr5. (regretting now cause temps are 80 to 90%) You pour water on the top graphics card it sizzles and evaporated straight away lol

2 500gb caviar blue set at RAID 0

    Asus m4a79t deluxe

    2gb DDR3 2000mhz ram. (: OCZ. I love these two babies.

The rest are all basic like the cd drive and stuff. Those are my badboys hehe

  • @CRW5900

single HD4890 can beat GTX280/GTX275 in some tested

while HD4890 take less wattage than GTX280/GTX275/HD4850 CF

dude...ur card is rock but if u crossfire it sure can beat single HD5870 single (tested)

  • @victorishotandsexy what are some uptodate games that can play with you 2 4850's that give you high fps and kickass graphics?

  • @1littlelee actually thats not very true

the 4890 uses GDDR5, so it has better memory and overall bandwidth

  • what the fiuck did i say, i cant remember

  • two 4870 x2 in crossfire..

    that be brutal

  • 4890x2 in xfire. /facemelt

  • 5890x2 Crossfire OC!!! FTW!. xD hope i dont get thumbed down

    oh wait..

    GTX290 QUADsLi. haha

  • why would anyone.. seriously.. ANYONE get a quad sLi with a GTX290? what games do you want to play??! xD

  • Ive go the powercolour 4870, which is now discontinued(i think), and im building a new system i was hoping to just put it in crossfire but doesn't look like that's available to me(unless ebay turns up with something).

I'm really looking for a workstation card(been looking at the firegl v7600) but cant find much info out there. Advice you bee greatly appreciated on what i should get, or links to workstation card reviews.

  • you can crossfire it with any other brand, as long as its the same card.

  • if ur looking for another 4870 for crossfire, any one will do as long as they have the same memory. i cant give any advice on the workstation stuff tho.

  • you must be on crack if you want to spend 350 on a card just go with the crossfire and it will run about the same and save 50 bucks

  • ooor, if you wanna upgrade down the road youll have one badass quad crossfire system.

  • yeah but down the road.... you can't mix crossfire cards.. so if the card gets discontinued your screwed or if better cards come out for lower prices.... w.e. goes you never know when technology makes a giant leap like the i7 just came out 6-8 months ago and now they have a i5 coming out

  • will you lick me rodney plz?

  • Very good video! Great work!

  • "a few extra bucks" ...for a second 4870x2 lol nice

    i have a question...plz reply some1 :)

    will a phenom 720 @ 3.5 bottleneck 2 4890's running at 8x 8x?

also will a corsair TX750 handle it all...

  • I t will perform closely to an E8400 or a Q6600, so we have a minor bottleneck here....something to be concerned about

I would go for a Q9XXX+ series or either X4's black edition to get all you should get with this Xfire configuration.

  • I've got a single 4850 and am upgrading my system currently. Saw some posts on combining different cards. Is it possible to combine cards in Crossfire within the 48xx-series. Forinstance my 4850 with a 4870??

  • these days the drivers for crossfire are realy good they should rebench it

  • cool review. wish i had about 800bucks to buy two Sapphire 4870X2s.

  • dude always make me jump when video starts lol

    HELLO!!! lol

  • what about mixed crossfire?

  • lol.. just lol..

  • Eh.. i don't get it xp

  • you cant mix cards in crossfire lol

  • they are in the 4800 serires so they are able to connect for crossfire

  • yes you can as long as they are in the same series like 4850 and 4870 or a 4870 and a 4890, as long as they are in the 4000s

  • what if its the same xfx 4850 but 1gb vs 512mb version

  • tis fine

  • lol you can have up to 4 hd 4830's, wich can be overclocked to an 4870..

but i like my 3 gtx 280's but... my next upgrade will be ati... maybe some 4890x2's :)

  • i don't think thats a good idea cause of the microstuttering problems you have with more then 2 videocards.

  • they probably arent going to make the 4890x2 because there is no market for it, everyone who would get it already has the 4870x2 and they will be moving onto the 45 nm die cards :D

they just have to stop the power loss function

  • wait till hd 5xxx and gt300 series ; )

  • 2 HD4890's will be good choice........

  • thanks dude

  • Rodney is right on most points, however 2 4870 videocards in crossfire will almost always outperform a single 4870X2. This is especially true on a motherboard that has 2 x16 lanes (electrically) available, due to the higher bandwidth available for 1 card.

  • and second one crossfire can work without liqoud cool system arent they and a midle tower box is enough room for them. Thanks man

  • o men i confused a litlle bit help 2x4670 1g each is enough for a 4870

  • does both cores of 4870 X2 works in windows XP or just 1 core only? Thanks in advance.

  • hey now im confusd.... did i made any mistake purchasing 4870??? i waz thinking of crossfire.. bt 4870x2 olready does d job....??? damn it man!!!

  • i will go with 4870x2 X 2 crossfire, if rodney throws some to me! :p

  • what would the power consumption be for 4870 x2 in crossfire? ~600W or ~ 800W?

  • wtf? 600-800watt? are you fucking nuts? its around 200-280watt, im not sure but now over 300w

  • you sure?

then why have an 1000w power supply?

  • a 1000w*

  • what do you mean? 1000w? no you dont need a 1000w if thats the question, i'd recommend a 5500w if u r using 4870x2 and a C2D, otherwise use a 700w

  • 5500w is going to cost a lot though, isn't it? i can't afford that along with the gpus

  • 550w*

you could use a 550w to the 4870x2, just one, but not 2 of them i guess, not sure..

  • ah crap, i didnt read ''4870 x2 in crossfire'' lol, dumb me, the power consumption would be around @ 400-500w i guess, so i'd stick with 850-1000w psu

  • a real question now: an HD 4870 with a fast dual core. 800W ok right? overkill?

  • a 4870 with a dual core, i ran that on a 450w once with a little but of vibration(overload xD) but 450w minimum

  • u forgot ur other parts , cpu , mother board ect

  • dude 450 watts is minumum for a 4870, and 600 for a crossfire system

  • u r wrong, 215w minimum, 284w in load. may me more but not 450w cuz i ran my e8400,4870,500+80gb hdd with a 450w from corsair, so u r so wrong.

  • ok ill try it and prove you wrong, cause everwhere it says minum 450 not anywhere near 280.

  • OMG the grpahics dont take 450w its recommended to have atleast 450w to be safe the graphics card its self takes about 280w

  • that's the power supply you idiot, 450w psu minimum O_O

  • ya and that is what we have been talking about, it requires a min. of 450 watt psu.

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

me and LizzyAston were talking about the fucking power consumption of it Ò.ó!!

  • The card it self is using something like 250W but you cant just havd the card can ya? there for you need more watts = a minimum of 450W

  • omfg O_O.... i've told this idiot ajkid93 2-3 times it uses 215w in idle and 284w in load, and i ran it on my corsair 450w cuz a 450w is enough.

  • ok ^^ i didnt get that the first time i read it :P

  • I run my 4870 with a 400w PSu :L

  • what the person above said said is what i agree with...

    im confused

  • i love this man.

  • i have 1 4870 card very gd i play call of duty 4 and i can go full gfx and 125 fps 20 inch screen goin cross soon i hope wen i get money if you do you have to get a 1000watt pwsuply kk hope that helps 2 ;)

  • can u take a 4850 and a 4870 and crossfire them?

  • No you cannot.

  • Yes you can, but catalyst automatically lowers the clock speed for both the core and the memory to match the frequency slower card(4850)

  • the 4850 in crossfire more than just slightly outperforms a single 4870. their not too far away on their own. dont forget, crysis doesnt support crossfire or sli. im going to get 2 4850's in terms of bang for your buck the 4850 rules! 2 for $478australian. $239 each! compared to 2 4870 @ $678 ($339 each)$200 could go to a cpu cooler so u can overclock your cpu. i rather that, seeing that my cpu is a e6750 (2.66ghz)or a new motherboard other than 16x and 4x!

  • were are u getting tem from?

  • If you get a 4850x2 or a 4870x2, will Crysis see it as one card or two cards?

Cause it is two card in one card, lol. d:

  • its not two cards in one cards, its a single card with two gpu's on it

  • Wrong dude in video. I ran 2 seprate 4870 in cross fire against a 4870x2 and the cross fire mode bet the single 4870x2 in all of my testby more or less around 5 fps. Almost the same speeds but the cross fire mode was still faster then the single 4870x2

  • shoot this guy please.

  • shot for that

  • i have a 17 " an a 8800 gt i max all my games out at 1280 resolution, i dont fancy a new monitor so would it really be worth an upgrade, which would be a 4850.

  • You should upgrade to a HD 4870.

I thought about the 4850 but for an extra £40 I can get the 4870

  • even a 4830 would be good enough, but then again you add around $20 more and get more FPS.

  • a 4850 is an amazing card

at the resolutions you play it would last you for a while

if you ever buy a new mobo make sure you get a corssifr/ sli one

cuz thne you can always poke in a second one when its getting slower and the card is cheaper

  • yeh i just built ma comp a few days ago and i got crossfire but i use one single year old 8800 gt cus i have a 17" moniter. doesnt crossfire and sli and dsiadvantages in some games

  • if your thinking of a 4850 check my vid out it shows crysis at a similar resolution that youre running that should give you an idea how that card performs

  • if your gaming on a 17inch monitor you will see a great improvment in games with 1 4850 for a 17inch monitor you wont see much difference to crossfire em i have the HIS 4850 ICQ4 1GB and i game on a 19 inch and its amazing im gonig to upgrade to a 22 inch soon and might get a 4870 ICQ4 version 4870 as the ICq4 coolers r AMAZING

  • my overclocked ati 4850 performs better than a 4870 by quite a few fps, at stock cooling. Im getting a new cooler so i can oc it more, ati overdrive is awesome.

  • seriously doubt it with the fast GDDR5 mem the 4870 has. Even if you say an oced 4850 will beat a 4870, 4870 has some nice overclocking breather room as well for memory as fast as 4000mhz+

  • 2x 4870 1gb versions will beat 4870x2 but the 512mb version will not...

  • Actually thats not true and if you get a sinlge 4870x2 you will have the side port which will increase the monsters fire breath when ATI decide to enable it with a driver update :)

  • I know that, but i answered the way the things are right now...the sideport becomes active next year and i personally think that they will release 5870x2 before they activate the sideport...:)

  • sorry if i misheard but can you xfire a 4850 with an 4870?

  • i think you can but its not gonna be beneficial, since 4870 runs on ddr5 its going to have to throttle itself down to 4850 speeds so buy 2 of the same cards

  • ah of course thanks for the information - much apprieciated

  • Guys i play on a 17" monitor on resolutions on 1024x768 or 1280x1024 and i was wondering if i should get a 4870X2 or a 4870? please take price/performance into consideration. and if its worth paying more for a 17". I play Flight Simulator X and Crysis Warhead, GRID, waiting for Farcry2...

  • ...save your money and get a 24inch monitor than just get a 4850

  • The general assumption seem to be that a 4850 is enough for 1680x1050 and below and 4270x2 only makes sense for 1920x1200 and up atm. Crysis (not warhead) is an exception but that's because it suck obviously, warhead should be better. Of course you can get something better if you want lots of AA and AF aswell, but 1280x1024 is nothing so a 4850 will probably do that just fine. Buy a 5850 or 6850 a year or two from now if you need it instead of getting a overkill gfx-card now.

  • im sorry, but ive been waiting ever since the "temporary" HD2600XT, im not waiting any longer, i just cant take it, u know i played crysis on a 46" LCD on all medium and no AA @ 20-25 fps! i was like WTF!

  • An HD 4850 would be plenty for that. Personally I disagree with this answer because he says you should choose a 4870X2 simply because it's the better performer, disregarding the idea that most people don't have 30" and 3.4GHz+ CPUs. There's a lot more he could say in this vid, I might make a vid response to explain the Bottleneck effect and what would best suit what resolutions.

  • lol two 4870x2 cards.. yeah with a 1000w powersuply mabe.. u gotta b kidding me

  • You mean doing 4870x2 crossfire with 4870 single crossfire with 4870x2 5 GPU working? does that even work?

  • No drivers for that, sorry :/

(not that there are any games or PSU's)

  • "4870 video cards in a crossfire setup outperform a single 4870 X2 video card"

I definitely want to see a benchmark on that. We already now that 3870 video cards in a crossfire setup don't outperform a single 3870 X2 video card. And 4870 X2 seem's to be a lot faster than 4870 than 3870 X2 is faster then the single 3870. :-)

  • I honestly don't know where he got that from.

  • I don't know too. But it could a guess. The future will find out what's best hopefully. :D

  • Shouldent the X2 run slower than 2 singles in crossfire regardless of what card becuase that means the X2 is basicly 2 cards in one and their both sharing the same PCI-E slot wich theroiticly means x8 x8 for both while 2 singles in crossfire would get their own PCI-E slot resulting in x16 x16 speed. The diffrence may be meaningless but wouldent it still be something?

  • Yes and no for the most part the x2 has newer stuff in it than the single 4870 remember that.

  • I have three 4870 X2 cards in a 3xCrossfire setup because I have $100 bills shooting out of my ass.

  • That some sick shit man. Keep it up!

  • 3xCrossfire? Thats six way crossfire right there O_O. I don't even think that's possible :hmm:

  • "I have three 4870 X2 cards in a 3xCrossfire setup because I have $100 bills shooting out of my ass."

@coolbreeze922, thats the worst lie in the history of human kind, you **CANNOT** have more than 4 ATI/Nvidia GPU's operating in one

system, you can only have two hd 4870x2's in crossfire, look at the top, there is only one crossfire port on the card meaning only one bridge, also meaning only two cards allowed, stop trying to look like the big rich man with a big system fool!

  • It's no lie. I gots 3 of them hooked up in there. And with 2 GPUs per board, it's like I got 6xCrossfire. It's wicked sick. My system has a Core 2 Double Quad eight core chip, 4 terabyte HD, 16 gigs of 2 ghz ram, a 2000 watt PS, and a built-in espresso machine and foot massager.

My parents set me up with a trust fund when I was 2. I'm rich, so I can have stuff like this.

This post, as well as my original post, are jokes. Tecato22 got the joke, and you didn't.

  • you physically cannot have 3 of them in there, there is only room for one crossfire bride on top, you've probably got 3 but not hooked them up thinking that you've got them in crossfire -.-

  • Obvious lie is obvious.

You cant have tri crossfire with that card, there's no eight core core2duo chip and that ram is just ludicrous.

    but yea.. jokes

  • You can always get the skulltrail mobo and get 8 cores(X2 the quad..)

  • lol built in espresso mechine and foot massager haha

  • "Core 2 Double Quad eight core chip", that was funny.

  • coolbreeze, take a video of your so called "tri" crossfire for the hd 4870 x2 and stick it on youtube to show everyone your chatting shit

  • coolbreeze, stop chatting shit, your boring me now

  • What does "chatting shit" mean?

  • it means your lying and you've got nothing to back it up

  • By too sick you mean Intel GMA 950 and Intel Pentium III Extreme.

  • Thanks for the tip! Also I have a question, is it safer to go with ATI or Nvidia? I use Nvidia currently and love it and heard of problems with ATI, but I'm leaning towards the 4870 X2 because it's the best card out there. Should I stick with it?

  • The HD 4870 X2 is the fastest card out there by a long shot.

  • ATi, HD 4850 owns the 9800GTX+ and the heat problems can be fixed by adjusting the fan. And the drivers are premature but still pwn the 9800GTX+. The HD 4870 owns the GTX260. The HD 4870X2 OWNS the GTX280, GTX280 SLI. So ATi has the upper hand right now.

  • Also, 4870 X2 is more compatible than two 4870s in crossfire as a few games don't really like crossfire, but they work normally on an X2 (even though the X2 has 2 GPUs in crossfire on a single PCB). multi GPU setups always have compatibility issues; my geforce 7 SLI was turned off for most of 2006 as so much wasn't compatible.

  • 2 4870x2s in crossfire crysis maxed @ 2560 x 1600 here we come

  • i heard that you get more of a boost with multiple graphics cards if you are playing games at a higher res, so for example on a 17" monitor you would only get a 20% boost from another gpu but with a 24" monitor you would get a 60% boost, thats just an example though.

  • And your right about the bigger boost on higher resoloution ;)

  • For all the games now one 4870 is surrely enough to play at high 1920x1200 aa edge detect.

One year later buy 4870x2 and sell 4870.

  • since the 1gb version of 4870 is out, it is better than 4850 in crossfire

  • That was well done, usually when someone does a video on gpu's i get confused with people quickly blurting out gpu model names but he spoke at a rate that i got all the info with one play threw. Great job!

  • can anyone confirm if this is a good power supply. im planning to run a single 4870x2.

    Website >>> ebuyer(dot)com

type this in the search box

    "135196"

  • It's very good power supply for that card.

  • fuck google ads !

  • aggreed

  • >Is 4870 X2 CF faster than triple GTX 280?

  • 4gb gddr5 vs 3gb gddr3 the answer is ati wins the battle.

  • yeah nvidia sucks

  • Are you a fucking retard?

  • fuck sorry asshole, how about u fucking correct me instead of calling me a retard!!

  • Sorry wasnt even meant for you LOL,sorry man lol

  • WTF!The comment wasn't even meant for YOU and i appologised so u can either accept, or not like a total loser :)

And now that i read the comment i replied to,by mistake of course, whats the point in the extra bandwidthblah blah fucking blah?

Well, you see,it has allowed their single card soloution to beat NV :)

2 GPU's on a single card+shared VRAM outdo NVIDIA,who gives a fuck if it has 2 GPU's cause it DOENST microstutter and is BETTER than all the NVIDIA shit!

    A 280GTX2 would be like $900!!

  • fine fine whatever, i accept ur appoligy (cant sp3ll). well if it wasnt directed at me then who?

  • Ok thanks for accepting my apology, and it was directed at another youtube member on another video i had in another tab at the same time as this and got distracted, and typed in here instead like a retard, happy?

  • But what about 4850 + 4870 CF

  • 4870x2 has 1GBx2 of ram, so at high resolution with high AA/AF it will stay relatively unaffected, while other cards will suffer FPS drop(even GTX280's 1GB can't handle high res high AA as 4870x2 does).

  • good video

  • Actually, benchmarks have shown that two 4870s in Crossfire will outperform a single 4870x2. Now, if you have 2x 4870x2's in Crossfire, it can outperform a 4870 crossfire.

  • That's in lower reses like 1280x1024 & 1680x1050, in 2560x1600 and similar the 4870x2 drops almost no frames per second from lets say 1920x1080. Its much more consistent.

  • u are getting ads for Crysler Crossfire
