Obama's polling numbers are still much higher than Bush's at this point in his tenure. Obama's polling numbers are still much higher than Bush's at this point in his tenure. Bush had nearly 30% apporval rating and still managed to get re-elected because he pumped fear about another terrorist attack. The problem with the right is that they have no one to run against Obama in 2012. So popularity has nothing to with this argument, people always vote for the incumbent when in the voting booths. The bailout was a fiscal rape on the tax payer, the torture issue, now healthcare? Its my understanding the Constitution charges the President as the primary defender of itself. If this strategy is in fact a correct assessment, then over the next 3.5 years the Dems. can count on self-imploding, not re-election. If the country were experiencing "good times" this centrist strategy might get them somewhere politically, but these are "hard times", and hard times call for strong messures, which by definition are either going to be intensely conservative, or intensely progressive. Taking the 'middle road' will get us nowhere... and that will out itself quite quickly.

I think Cenk's analysis is flawed here.
If Obama upsets the right AND the left, he takes on too much risk in assuming that the left will continue to vote for him because they have nowhere to go. Remember, his victory is based on turnout numbers. If the left liberals do not have an option, they just won't turn out to vote and that makes it extremely difficult for him to win. Also, not taking care of the left will expose him to crticism by the right at election time for breaking cmpaign promises.

YES !! campaign financing reform is the only way to get the government back from the corporate masters ..all the billions of dollars the lobbyist spend buying off the congress will dry up and with watch dogs groups (government or private) keeping the under the table payoffs to a minimum the country might have a chance to recover .. without the purging of the lobbyist out of the government the country won't have a chance to survive as a democracy.. the media is corporate owned they won't help
