  • damn I these...what's with the hiatus?

  • I went knight to e6 instead of queen to d8, that is legit though.

  • Is jrobichess still alive? Or did he just stop playing?

  • totally missed that line. thanks robi!

  • Wasn't too hard to figure it out, at least after we were warned that there WAS a punishing move.

  • First one I got completely right! I'm only 1150 at chess.com, so I'm pretty happy!

  • @Powerlight958 whats ur rating now?

  • @thadinininon 1160 haha. It takes forever for me to improve.

  • @Powerlight958 lol play me in chess =P

  • @thadinininon what's your username? thadinininon? I'm actually gonna be gone this weekend with no internet access. Maybe we can play on Monday? my username is the same as on YouTube.

  • @Powerlight958 kk =] just ... erggggh idk just tell me when u get on ...somehoww

  • @thadinininon I'll message you via YouTube when I get back.

  • @thadinininon Also, just a warning, I have been on a roll and my rating is now 1204. :D

  • yay! i got it!

  • At first I was thinking night to f5 or e6 but that doesn't really do anything and black can advance the past pawn, I did find the move. My reasoning is to threaten checkmate and even if prevented black will be forced to be defensive.

  • *video

  • wow, I love this videos.

  • i thought white playing c6....is there a way black punishes white for playing that?

  • LOVE IT!!!!

  • how is pawn g5 for diffence

  • i like the video send more

  • i like how you pronounce process

  • i love watching your videos! i can just about beat the computer on medium difficulty haha but these vids deffo help cheers man

  • these are literally the ONLY videos on youtube i find useful, interesting, and eveyrthing that follows..thanks and take care!

  • @thegame52291 I appreciate the comment game - thanks for checking it out!

  • @jrobichess we need a video soon!

  • While this isn't the best move. The move I was thinking that would help would be to move the white pawn at C5 to C6. As this will add protection to the knight by now making the queen able to protect. IF black were to capture the piece then the white pawn can capture the black pawn if it tried to attack the knight. While this will lead to white being down a pawn, I think it wouldn't matter because of the postion of the pieces. If I had more characters to work with I could explain more.

  • nice videos man, youre making a great contribution to the game!

  • At 3:35 why not move knight to 8a? To block the pawn on the left and to guard c7?

  • i thought of it> ITS AWESOME EH?

  • How is the position dead equal? White has 3 vs 2 pawns on the queen side. White has connected pawns. White has 2 potentially past pawns, black has one. Whites king is closer to the action. Blacks B pawn is a huge weakness. And whites pawns are more advanced. The tactic works just because of imbalance. Trading down queens is great for white because the position is not equal. Maybe that's why black put his knight there instead? Because trading down is obviously lost.

  • I saw Qd8 and Ne6, but I didn't know how to continue after that. That Ng5 followed by Nxh7 was very slick. I guess that's why he's the grandmaster not me.

  • gay.... i moved knight

  • I just kept thinking how bad the position of his king was and how to threaten with a strong piece like the queen or the knight, so thats when I saw queen to D8

  • White is up a pawn -- why is the starting position equal?

  • I came up with the right answer! Woohoo!

  • The first move from white, doesn't c6 also force the promotion of a pawn?

  • that is :::AwSoMe::: make more vids my chess tournament is on december 10th 2010!

  • I didn't see Qd8, but yeah after it was played, I definitely saw the potential after that. Nice!

  • what if black goes g5 to block?

  • In Australia, when playing chess, they have to say "checkmate" and "checkmatemate" to avoid confusion.

  • Hey! In also like your videos! But one question? What was a better move than Qg7?

  • Great video

  • thank you so much for doing this. I love chess and your video make me really get better

  • What program is this that you use?

  • jrobi!!! i've seen that move but I have another idea....1. Nxf5 gxf5 2. Qd8 Qb2check 3.Kh3 Nf2 Check 4. Kg2 Ne4 check............. and it was a draw?????

  • Jrobi, please, PLEASE do more of these GM Tactics videos...I really love them a lot!!!!

  • I found it 8-) It seems that when black uses the knight to block the queens checkmate, white could also just start pushing his pawns up. Black can't move his queen or knight less he succumbs to checkmate, so I don't see how he'd prevent a loss at that point. I could be wrong though.

  • I've been watching Danielsen's blitz videos. I learn so much from him, he's on another level.

  • can you post the guys link so we can watch his games please :]

  • When you talk about the "best play", how do you know for 100% certainty that your analysis is the "best play"? Couldn't "best play" be wrong? Has it ever been wrong before???

  • 5:30 seems the stronger line...its more challenging

  • Qd8 is the best move (+6) yet c6 is also winning (+3.88). Also any other move just loses the game for white.

As to the queen exchange on f6, after ...Nxf6, b5 seems to me to be a loss of time (comes 4th after Kf3). Here again c6 gets my vote (although fritz prefers a5) since after bxc6 the passed pawn on a5 is enough to win

Aslo if black tries to block Qd8 by playing ...Nf6 then Ne6 is not the best move. b5 gets a +15 while Ne6 is considered 4th best move (+5), actually even c6 (again!) gets +6.

  • Keep it up jrobi--Our chess club uses your videos as tutorials for our college ^_^

  • what software he uses to analyze his games with arrows and lines etc?

  • Hey, I was studying the [Round "8"]

    [White "Kasparov, Gary"]

    [Black "Kasimdzhanov, Rustam

On your channel. And on move 9 black moves his knight to A5. I've heard the phrase a knight on the rim is grim. Would the move knight to E5 of been better? Because of the centre control? If not would you please take out the time to explain? Thanks :)

  • I actually did. Weird cause usually I suck at chess.

  • I REALLY hope everything is fine with Mr Danielson and that he will post videos again! He is a great player!

  • thanx for the vids jrobi! i really like your style of commentating and you always have some nice facts flying around... I hope you keep up the wonderfull work

  • great job! looking forward for more vids! keep it up :D

  • jrobichess, I must say that you are the best chess commentator on youtube. I admire you for your inspiration and enthusiasm. You are a very good contribution to the educational chess world. Not very many people will share their knowledge for free, but you are indeed one of the exceptional few. Thanks. I love all your videos. They're all very detailed and instructional. Would you do me one request? Tell me what you think about Paul Morphy. Is he still the chess idol to modern players today?

  • nice video, I saw the Q to D8 move, but only because you said there was one :D (would have definitely missed it in an actual game).

    nice vid.

  • Great work teacher!

    Thanks a lot :-)

  • I actually came up with this line, I was very surprised. I have been studing grand master game like you said. Where you guess the moves and it has really been helping. I am just curious, how do you learn and remember all the chess openings?

I am having a hard time doing this, since there are so many. Thanks. Great Video.

  • This is the 1st Chess Tactics video I've ever understood.

  • i play chess but im only 13 and well i wasn't ever able to think 1 or 2 moves ahead. :(

  • It's not dead equal JRobi. White is up a pawn

  • great video! love when your new videos come out!

  • Jrobi you should check out Kosteniuk blitz videos. She usually only posts her wins, but her commentary is very good and the speed and precision is quite spectacular. Her YouTube channel is ChessQueen.

That was a nice tactic. Didn't see it!

  • lol 1 dislike wtf??

  • I did, I didn't realize the powerful domination it entailed.

  • Thanks for the vids Jrobi! Think they're amazing.

Can you please please please also do some middle game videos looking at strategic ideas like weak squares, a strong center, open files etc. Also one on pawn structure perhaps.

    Anyway, thanks for the vids!

  • im just a beginner an play against a computer program but my last game ended with 4 queens a knight an my king just chasing his king around x3 i was torturing him with 4 queens planted at every corner XD

  • A good little study in tactics and position.

  • yet another great video Jrobi...thanks as always

  • nice vid man keep it up 5 stars

  • Interesting, interesting ... I love the knights in chess, always good for surprises. Best greetings from a chess noob.

  • i certainly also used to love watching danielson. used to watch danielson when waking up in the morning with my morning coffee. Henrick would often be doing the same thing while playing his games. I miss those days!

  • I needed some time ofc, but jrobichess gives a lot motivation.

  • Very nice. I anticipated every best move not the black's ones though. I'm proud now, lol.

I want to point out that I find your following-moves like in: 3:46 Nd4xF5 are just a tiny bit too fast, you need somewhat fast eyes to follow - because in the video you are looking somewhere and suddenly Your fast moves begin.

    thx for nice movies.

  • always love the vids jrobi! keep 'em coming =]]

  • @nikobrown1990 Thanks Niko!

  • @jrobichess Are you dead?

  • I've never seen no dislikes with this amount of likes! Nice video :)

  • @failedassassin Thanks for checking it out failedassassin!

  • @jrobichess

Can you do a vid on the caro-kann?

  • @DerekLeeR Thanks for the comment Derek!

  • at 3:41, wouldn't it be easier for white if he moved Nb5 then push a6, c7, a7, after black takes with knight he loses it, then finally c8 ?

  • your videos are really amazing!! What software do you use to produce the graphics, Aquarium?

  • I very much appreciate your work. Thank you.

  • Thanks A!

  • hi jrobichess, I was looking at the knight sacrifice on f5, is there a line that could favour white in that position?

  • Jrobi, are you sure that before Qg7 the position is equal? It looks much better for white to me. Is black's plan to penetrate via g5 or something? It's seemingly impossible for him to harass the knight and if he opens the e file white can play Qe6 and if need be Qe5 closing it up. Thanks if you can help, I got Qd8 pretty quickly.

  • I did see the move and chose it as the best one, however didn't know what other havoc it would bring, awesome video as always

  • Of course I know who Danielson is... The Karate Kid.

  • @joeyjoejoejrshabidu

Just FYI, it's "Daniel-san," not -son. "-San" is the suffix to mean "Mr." or some similar sign of respect.

    :-)

  • That was the first move I thought of, but then the video kept playing and spoiled it :P

  • Nice video and thanks for the link!

  • @NisseHult101 Thanks for checking it out N!

  • I'm glad. This is the first one of these that I got. I thought I didn't at first because I figured it would just be the queen trade, but then saw the pawn structure and figured was the best move because clearing the table of material was a really good idea too.

  • @KemaTheAtheist Good catch Kema!

  • Likes-258 Dislikes-0 JROBI you are the best!

  • @Joesterisk Thanks Joe!

  • these really help. please do more. thank you!

  • @ameier021087 Thanks for checking it out!

  • i love these videos.. im very much a beginner with chess .. in fact i pretty much only recently started playing on my iphone (although i learned the rules years ago as a child)

  • @chilly22 Thanks for checking it out! I hope you get lots of fun from the game!

  • Good to see a video Robi... its been awhile... i have been waiting... Wow... watta move i didnt see that.. but, i guess that's why they call them GM's... Hope to see more video's... Learning a great deal from ur videos just wanted u to know...

  • @brucenunn37 Thanks Bruce, I appreciate the feedback!

  • jrobichess do you think the game grand master chess is a good app to get better at chess?

  • where is the link... what description box below... can someone please post a link

  • @lisle12345 Click on the more info area below the video (description area) - it's in there. Thanks for checking out the vid!

  • Robi, too much talk in this one...

  • Awesome vid, thanks!

  • @Andrekky Thanks for checking it out!

  • Completely awesome move and commentary!

  • @CaraBrimleyRules Glad you liked it Cara! Thanks for watching!

  • @jrobichess No probs! I didn't see this move despite looking at it for a couple of minutes. I was too concerned about the attack on the knight and the black queen infiltration, not seeing the counter infiltration. Never a better example of "attack is the best form of defence."

  • Isn't kingscrusher a GM? Cause he posts all his games, blitz win or loss...

  • @yawnyda1st No, KC isn't an IM or GM yet to my knowledge - but still entertaining and very strong. Thanks for checking out the vid!

  • I got the move, but nowhere near blitz speed. Nice setup! Thanks for the channel reference.

  • @neoaeonian Glad you liked it Neo - thanks for checking it out!

  • Jrobi idk if you've seen Danielsons channel lately, but his profile has about 50 new comments in the last 15 hours....

  • @thefezzman13 That's great - I hope that continues! Thanks for checking out the vid!

  • wow nice channel thx for information.

  • @880330145789 Thanks for checking it out 88!

  • Nothing short of great !!!

  • @danielrasengan2 Thanks for checking it out Daniel!

  • Just amazing, thank you for the video, I'd want to see more of those!

  • @oddle29922992 Thanks O!

  • 165 likes, 0 dislikes. Jrobi you are amazing.

  • Wow, I must be improving. I actually came up with the move! It is kind of bizarre that I could not actually see the moves all the way to the end; I could just intuitively see that d8 was the right place to go because of the pressure it builds.

  • @AntiCitizenX Good catch Anti - I wouldn't worry about not seeing totally down the line, it was quite a few moves with best play to get the win, but if you got the first few I am sure you would have continued with the winning ideas. Thanks for checking out the vid!

  • I love you, jrobichess.

  • jrobi: you are the man! excellent analysis as always

  • @callogician Thanks C!

  • Love the new ending.

  • @BDMchess Thanks BDM!

  • Thanks!

  • I DID IT!!!

  • @noxtradamentus Good catch! =)

  • ive missed these!!! thanks for ding a new one!

  • @teddster214 thanks for Doing* a new one =)

  • @teddster214 Glad you liked it Tedd - thanks for watching and commenting!

  • I did come up with the move, because it looked best, but I had no idea about why it would be the best move, I also got the knigth f6 and knight e6 follow up

  • @mrKreuzfeld Good catch! Thanks for checking out the vid!

  • Jrobichess, what chess programs do you reccomend i should use, that i can use online?

  • Yeah, krakkaskak is badass, he lost just a very few of his blitz games here on youtube.

  • @Sozialneutralist Yeah - it shows a good character to share the losses, especially at the GM level, which some people just don't do. Thanks for checking out the vid!

  • any more of your own games coming up any soon Jrobi:D?

  • Definitely - thanks for checking out this one!

  • I'm a great fan of krakkaskak and I'm glad that you have attracted some attention to his dead channel. It would be awesome if he came back! Btw - there is 1 other GM that has posted high quality videos. ChessQueen (who has an even higher FIDE rating than danielsen) has done very cool videos. All the best! Rux

  • you're videos are so great. It's always a pleasure to see up on my "subscriptions" tab that you've made another video.

  • @Mdaske Thanks Mdaske! I appreciate that!

  • he played a guy named "Tiger Person"?? that's a pretty awesome name lol awesome move too. good vid

  • @haitianflagrep36 hehe yeah no doubt - thanks for checking it out!

  • I'm in the process of learning how to play chess in a proper and slightly competitive way, but I don't consider myself that good. However with this video, when you asked us if we could see the best line, something just clicked inn my head and I got it completely right the way that the best move thing said. Now I can actually see myself improving. Thanks Jrobi, keep posting the videos!!!

  • @Chazzie13 Glad to hear that Chazzie! Thanks for commenting and checking out the vid!

  • Did not find the move but thanks for showing the game. :(

  • @Vert3X44 Thanks for watching and giving it a shot V!

  • Yes, found the move...in about 10 seconds. BTW, it's prah-cess, not pro-cess....lol. Good video.

  • video was great i like the new ending effect on the board it was cool

  • @peaceflowercox Thanks Peace - I appreciate the feedback!

  • Well done, love your videos, they are great

I was to inpatient and just thought c6, My eyes was on the massive pawns at left side. Should have considered, 'spaces left behind'. Especially when you said dead equal before the blunder move. That is, what fields are now save to move to. Now the queen is free to move to d8.

  • @kunukn Thanks for checking it out - great comment!

  • @shinermatt I hope so too - thanks for watching and commenting!

  • love it i! got it! well happy about that defos keep the cool vids coming

  • @openureyes911 Thanks!

  • for once I actually got the move right. Nice video!

  • @NottinghamEngland Good catch! Thanks for checking it out!

  • Wow, thank you so much; I didnt know him and I really must say his channel undoubtedly represent one of the biggest resource for chess on youtube!

  • @jkor9 He has some great vids - very entertaining. I hope he continues with them - the sooner the better! Thanks for checking out this one!
