@thadinininon what's your username? thadinininon? I'm actually gonna be gone this weekend with no internet access. Maybe we can play on Monday? my username is the same as on YouTube.
At first I was thinking night to f5 or e6 but that doesn't really do anything and black can advance the past pawn, I did find the move. My reasoning is to threaten checkmate and even if prevented black will be forced to be defensive.
While this isn't the best move. The move I was thinking that would help would be to move the white pawn at C5 to C6. As this will add protection to the knight by now making the queen able to protect. IF black were to capture the piece then the white pawn can capture the black pawn if it tried to attack the knight. While this will lead to white being down a pawn, I think it wouldn't matter because of the postion of the pieces. If I had more characters to work with I could explain more.
How is the position dead equal? White has 3 vs 2 pawns on the queen side. White has connected pawns. White has 2 potentially past pawns, black has one. Whites king is closer to the action. Blacks B pawn is a huge weakness. And whites pawns are more advanced. The tactic works just because of imbalance. Trading down queens is great for white because the position is not equal. Maybe that's why black put his knight there instead? Because trading down is obviously lost.
I saw Qd8 and Ne6, but I didn't know how to continue after that. That Ng5 followed by Nxh7 was very slick. I guess that's why he's the grandmaster not me.
I just kept thinking how bad the position of his king was and how to threaten with a strong piece like the queen or the knight, so thats when I saw queen to D8
jrobi!!! i've seen that move but I have another idea....1. Nxf5 gxf5 2. Qd8 Qb2check 3.Kh3 Nf2 Check 4. Kg2 Ne4 check............. and it was a draw?????
I found it 8-) It seems that when black uses the knight to block the queens checkmate, white could also just start pushing his pawns up. Black can't move his queen or knight less he succumbs to checkmate, so I don't see how he'd prevent a loss at that point. I could be wrong though.
When you talk about the "best play", how do you know for 100% certainty that your analysis is the "best play"? Couldn't "best play" be wrong? Has it ever been wrong before???
Qd8 is the best move (+6) yet c6 is also winning (+3.88). Also any other move just loses the game for white.
As to the queen exchange on f6, after ...Nxf6, b5 seems to me to be a loss of time (comes 4th after Kf3). Here again c6 gets my vote (although fritz prefers a5) since after bxc6 the passed pawn on a5 is enough to win
Aslo if black tries to block Qd8 by playing ...Nf6 then Ne6 is not the best move. b5 gets a +15 while Ne6 is considered 4th best move (+5), actually even c6 (again!) gets +6.
On your channel. And on move 9 black moves his knight to A5. I've heard the phrase a knight on the rim is grim. Would the move knight to E5 of been better? Because of the centre control? If not would you please take out the time to explain? Thanks :)
thanx for the vids jrobi! i really like your style of commentating and you always have some nice facts flying around... I hope you keep up the wonderfull work
jrobichess, I must say that you are the best chess commentator on youtube. I admire you for your inspiration and enthusiasm. You are a very good contribution to the educational chess world. Not very many people will share their knowledge for free, but you are indeed one of the exceptional few. Thanks. I love all your videos. They're all very detailed and instructional. Would you do me one request? Tell me what you think about Paul Morphy. Is he still the chess idol to modern players today?
I actually came up with this line, I was very surprised. I have been studing grand master game like you said. Where you guess the moves and it has really been helping. I am just curious, how do you learn and remember all the chess openings?
I am having a hard time doing this, since there are so many. Thanks. Great Video.
Jrobi you should check out Kosteniuk blitz videos. She usually only posts her wins, but her commentary is very good and the speed and precision is quite spectacular. Her YouTube channel is ChessQueen.
Can you please please please also do some middle game videos looking at strategic ideas like weak squares, a strong center, open files etc. Also one on pawn structure perhaps.
im just a beginner an play against a computer program but my last game ended with 4 queens a knight an my king just chasing his king around x3 i was torturing him with 4 queens planted at every corner XD
i certainly also used to love watching danielson. used to watch danielson when waking up in the morning with my morning coffee. Henrick would often be doing the same thing while playing his games. I miss those days!
Very nice. I anticipated every best move not the black's ones though. I'm proud now, lol.
I want to point out that I find your following-moves like in: 3:46 Nd4xF5 are just a tiny bit too fast, you need somewhat fast eyes to follow - because in the video you are looking somewhere and suddenly Your fast moves begin.
Jrobi, are you sure that before Qg7 the position is equal? It looks much better for white to me. Is black's plan to penetrate via g5 or something? It's seemingly impossible for him to harass the knight and if he opens the e file white can play Qe6 and if need be Qe5 closing it up. Thanks if you can help, I got Qd8 pretty quickly.
I'm glad. This is the first one of these that I got. I thought I didn't at first because I figured it would just be the queen trade, but then saw the pawn structure and figured was the best move because clearing the table of material was a really good idea too.
i love these videos.. im very much a beginner with chess .. in fact i pretty much only recently started playing on my iphone (although i learned the rules years ago as a child)

I was to inpatient and just thought c6, My eyes was on the massive pawns at left side. Should have considered, 'spaces left behind'. Especially when you said dead equal before the blunder move. That is, what fields are now save to move to. Now the queen is free to move to d8.
damn I these...what's with the hiatus?

However with this video, when you asked us if we could see the best line, something just clicked inn my head and I got it completely right the way that the best move thing said. Now I can actually see myself improving. Thanks Jrobi, keep posting the videos!!!

Well done, love your videos, they are great
I was to inpatient and just thought c6, My eyes was on the massive pawns at left side. Should have considered, 'spaces left behind'. Especially when you said dead equal before the blunder move. That is, what fields are now save to move to. Now the queen is free to move to d8.
