Thinking of the Custom 50w DG model. For home use!! Any thoughts or should i go for a low wattage. Been looking at badcats and carr amps. Hiwatt havent answered any questions. Puts me off. Looking for floyd tone.
@eals1880 i have both the 1x12 combo and the actual signature model with the linked input that is the DG model , you can use both at home no problem . these amps are the final word on clean tone and they take pedals very very well . i highly recommend buying one . you won't be disappointed .
@TheSAJ11 Ive been looking at the Reeves Custom series as well. It has four inputs so you can link them. They also have power scaling. Have you had any trouble with your Hiwatts? They never reply to my emails so i think there customer service probably sucks! Plus they have bumped up there prices 20% in the last 2 months. I think because parent company Music ground is in financial difficulty and its a quick way to boost revenue. Not totally sold on a Hiwatt yet although like what i hear on utube!
@eals1880 Reeves don't come close , a friend of mine bought a Reeves head and when we opened it to look inside they have one of there parts glued to the chassy !!! i don't know what it's called , i mean this is suppose to be a hand wired high end amp and they have glued parts inside , the reason we opened it because that part came unglued from shipping , i am not saying all reeves will be that way , but looking inside a Hiwatt , it is built solid and sounds amazing .
Man this sounds good, I keep coming back for more! I really wanted this head but now I'm thinking I may save the money and get the Custom 20 as it seems to do all I need and is much the same as this but without the 40 watt channel.
Hard to leave my beloved Orange AD30TC head though
I am after the Custom 20 next too. I played a 50 in london a few weeks ago and was once again blown away by the tone.
Yeah its a huge shame about the reliability issues, Pretty much from day 1 I have had problems with it and its currently with an amp tec getting fixed at the moment. Hiwatt them selfs were not interested at all while it was under warranty but as soon as it came out of warranty they wanted it shipped up straight away. Thats when I was able to get a hold of someone.
I agree with him totally about the importance of a good midrange tone and not overdriving to the point where the tone is lost. I want that amp. Please let me hang onto it for a couple weeks.
@madmonk66 mids = tone, beef, balls, guitars were meant for mids! bass has lows, and cymbals have high end like crazy! too much bass and highs and not enough mids and the guitar gets lost!
this amp's low end sounds way too muffled, and loose. you can imagine a huge pillow being placed over the speaker mids and highs sound okay. i don't care if it was handwired, or not. if this is all this amp is capable of, it needs to be taken back to the drawing board. bottom line no matter how much work went into the wiring. if the tone isn't there... this amp should be 1/5 the price at the most
I love BS.. but he is a different person...and a strange one at that.

I agree. Boost the mids, crank the master, and back off a bit on the gain...

does this have speaker emulation out? I have the higain and it works really well on that.

No.

shame, also a shame my hiwatt has been the most unreliable amp ive ever owned.
christhekiwi12 2 years ago
That's disappointing Chris. I played one the higains and thought it sounded good but didnt realise there was reliability issues.
For the past 4 years, I've owned a Custom 20 combo which has been great for reliability and sound. I'll post some clips sometime.

Price is high, but you're paying for extremely high-quality handwired goods.
How many major companies do you know that handwire their amps?
