I was a UN soldier in Bosnia/Croatia and if we were shot upon we were only allowed to shoot 3 times up in the air and shout "stani illi ja putsam" stop or i shoot.. and that was it !! we werent allowed to do anything else.. all thoug all 3 sides shot at us just for the fun of it.. I know for a fact that some times muslims and serbs had a competion about who dared to shoot against UNPROFOR positions.. they talked over radios about that..

I don't know about the Bosnian situation specifically, but depending on the situation, the 'peacekeepers' may or may not use their arms.

Do some research. It's very likely that the Dutch troops weren't under a UN resolution which allowed them to use their arms.

Don't blame the Dutch. Blame the UN and the pathetic way it functions. Rwanda was even worse than what happened in Bosnia.. way worse.. who's fault was that? The UN's for not allowing the peacekeepers to do anything.

450 dutch peace keepers are to blame for srebrenica... they didn't do their job, srebrenica was suppoed to be the only U.N safe zone in bosnia...

Also bosnian Mujahadeen failed misarabley, they retreated at the sight of 200 serbians with 5 tanks... there were 1,500 mujahadeen and they were on the most strategic part on a hill in srebrenica... failure cost the lives of 20,000.

the dutch peacekeepers weren't ALLOWED to use their "big guns" which you put in your duplicate comments here. they received an order from above telling them to keep the peace, and firing on the serbians would've meant engaging them. the UN isn't authorized in most cases to use force. look at Rwanda.

also, a lot of those dutch peacekeepers whom you put to blame were captured, tortured, and slain by the serbs as well.

it's not the fault of the dutch. i think we all know who did the massacre.

@cestima look this is a very controversial topic. I am very much against the killing of people. These images absolutely horrify me. I cant believe anyone person could do this to another. But my only problem is, when serbians kill albanians it goes all over the news they recieve help, yeah i kno, after 4 years, but still. Did anyone know that this was in response to a masscre of serbians. Does it make the news that in kosovo serbiansa are targeted. in 2004 40 churches burnt. This is serbian land.

With 5 tanks... they were peacekeepers. You think they could have even scratched a tank? And there was the entire Serbian army behind them. They weren't idiots. They weren't cowards either- they held their line even after Serbian tanks hit one of their vehicles. As for the 'mujahadeen' (should we call the Serbs crusaders?), one of the Bosnian militamen killed a Dutch soldier.

secondly, it's a documented fact they picked off civilians. they were trying to empty the city of its residents so they could take over and control it. and they did the same things in vukovar and srebrenica. that's why the civilians weren't evacuated by the UN, because that would have actually helped the serbians cause.

Anyone who watched the ITN SKY BBC or other European News KNOWS that they targetted any Civilians they had NO SOLDIERS ONLY PEOPLE WHO IMPROVISED WITH WHAT THEY HAD, THE ODD RIFLE ETC, they used to deliberately target little Girls first "to cause most heartbreak" according to one Sniper they interviewed thats pretty darned evil!.
