Why *did* she leave, though? Was it a writing decision? You say she basically had an irregular role at ER and then CSI Miami, which I believe was a while later.

Khandi made the decision to leave herself, although there is a lot more to the story than I can shed light on. She was tired of not having a bigger role on the show, she loved the writers and fellow cast members, but she was underused and some conflict happened when Lauren Graham(Andrea) was on the set, and that helped her make the decision to leave to move her career in a different direction. After NewsRadio she worked on broadway, did some films and eventually starred on CSI:Miami.
