  • ~penetrate the sea of darkness~reaching dangerous levels of enlightenment~

  • its scary to think, that what nazi germany could have become, if it wasnt for people like eisenhower, patton, marshall, wainright, bradley, churchill, roosevelt, brooke, montgomery, alexander, and the 16 million other US veterans of World war 2, thank you for keeping democracy alive. happy veterans day grandpa

  • thinking what the nazis could have become if it wasnt for the courage of churchill, roosevelt, patton, eisenhower, and millions of men... i thank all of our veterans for what they have done to keep democracy alive!

  • Thumbs up if you came here after hearing this is Flanagan winterguard 2008....no one? Alright, just me...

  • I've just discovered that music band and I LOVE all their songs I've heart for now

  • this makes my head relax **)

  • I love that they chose such a depressing video with such an uplifting and hopeful piece of music. It just makes one realize that the world is actually a beautiful place, that there are good, great things even out there. The children represent the innocence and happiness we all tend to lose as we grow up. It makes one stop and wonder why we're killing each other all over the planet, why we're destroying all the good things we have. Still, there's a sliver of hope that it's not too late yet.

  • I've never heard these guys before, so i have no right to be critical.

But do they often do whole songs without any form of lyrics?

I mean, i liked it, it just seemed odd to me.

  • I think the juxtaposition is the video makers way of saying "why" with so much right in the world, would we wage war on one another. In the middle of the video, before the violence picks up, there are two small children drawing and laughing, which is what we should all be doing with our time,

  • between amazing and bit confused

  • need a better quality version of this song

  • Numinosity uP the Spine !

  • To me this song kind of feels like a hopeful message about death. Despite all the pain and suffering in this world, we will eventually experience something indescribable, we will finally understand the reason why we are here and living on this planet.

  • venom <3

  • Video is superb. Job well done.

  • While I recognise that the music and visuals are quite juxtaposed, I think it's a message about hope. You know, that despite all the pain and terror and horror in the world, there is still hope. But also not be mindlessly happy, but be aware of your role in the world, to be someone whose life improves the world rather than adding to the hurt

  • this is the swan song of mankind

  • Where do we come from, and where are we going? Who are we, and what do we want? Why do we do what we do, think what we think, feel what we feel?

Maybe it is better not to know the answer, because maybe knowing be too hard to bear. Or maybe, just maybe it will ruin the surprise.

  • This music makes me want to embrace life.

  • AMAZING!

  • Es la rola más épica de esta banda!

  • The Absolute end Of The World post-rock /instrumental /electronic band from Turin,Italy

  • goddamit why am I crying

  • "Up next" Taylor Swift- You Belong to Me"

Youtube, I think you might be want to check in on the relationship between what I'm watching and what you're advertising.

  • cut.. nice!

  • hey at 4:00 were they terrorist or just protestors?

  • @JMountainJR

... are you dumb. clearly civilians..

  • @yawza Few of the clips made me go "Hey I've done that!" haha.

  • Sorry, but this video seems a little strange to me. This is probably Godspeed's most uplifting song in my opinion, so why you would set it against such negative images (bombs tests, wars, etc) seems a little out of context to me. It would probably make more sense if it was set to a song like World Police or Rocket Falls. Then again, the video is well-made and I suppose it's all down to interpretation.

  • @LaLiLuLeLo1991 War is beauty in some eyes.

  • @LaLiLuLeLo1991 This so very much. This is some of the most uplifting, hopeful, and downright euphoric music I ever heard, the visuals just don't fit.

  • @LaLiLuLeLo1991 Exactly. The video is well-made, but it doesn't fit with the music.

  • @LaLiLuLeLo1991

    Mayhap that was the point?

  • @LaLiLuLeLo1991 I don't even see see how one could possibly interpret the piece as dark, though. It's like thinking Washer by Slint is happy.

  • @LaLiLuLeLo1991 The video they made for the song in the concert is like wandering through a forest to a collapsed house, and then looking at a mass of crows in the sky, and then riding trains.

  • @Molton1878 I know, it's very powerful. I'm lucky enough to say I've seen them live a few times. What I really like about the visuals at their shows is how they never seem forced; they're never trying to tell any overarching story or take attention away from the music, they just go together well with the songs. That's not to say you couldn't find meaning in them if you wanted to, but they never demand that you have to. Godspeed live is just a great experience overall, musically and visually.

  • Because of you I decided to buy this at amazon LOL

    BTW A good video

  • I hear ya Cavan! I've travelled from afar for this one!

  • Friday night in Dublin this week, cant wait! :)

  • @Cavan1984 Ah shit i didnt even know they were in the country!! Rippin, dont suppose you know if theyre comin back any time soon?

  • Does anyone know where that black and white animation clip is from? The one at 1:30.

  • @ofeliabanana it's a frog inside his heart m8

  • @ofeliabanana I don't know but I like it a lot. Please mate tell me if you find out! Thanks

  • Uh!!! I love GodSpeed You! Black Emperor <3

  • @BlindSniperSurvival you are shockingly stupid. you would of made a great nazi candidate, I bet you idolize their ideals. nuff said

  • @blindside357 i'd call you a retard, except it'd be grotesquely out of order to tie anyone mentally challanged in with you, you are truely something else

  • Gosh, its a song. Why are we talking about Race?

  • I know the black and white animations are from a late 20s soviet experimental film bureau, i saw "China in Flames" but this one seems to be about the history of WWI. do you know what it is called? since you made it?

  • unbelievable video!!CONGRATS!!!

  • @blindside357 your comments are racist and hate filled. You have been reported.

  • @blindside357 You sound like a sister humping redneck. Kill yourself and your whore mom for making you. No one needs you.

  • this song is touching *crys liek a wimp*

  • @blindside357 i hope you look forward to being assraped by the chinese when they decide to expand from china into the world, theyve got the money, theyve got the manpower and most importantly- they own you everything around you is made in china. Besides, youre just a stupid racist who cant see beyond the tip of his nose. Asian genes are much better than our genes. Asian culture is better than ours because its based on honor, a virtue we have forgotten many years ago. Chill out save your hatred

  • @blindside357 well aren't you pleasant.

  • @BlindSniperSurvival its not racist if its a fact you simple minded dumbass

  • I'm enlightened. Thank you so much, thank you, thank you, thank you.

  • I love how smoothly evolves rhythm in godspeed songs...

oh! and everyone else its wrong except me.

  • @BlindSniperSurvival Look dude, I don't care if your proud of your racial background, just don't look down on others because they're different, I'm pretty sure that's one of the first things they teach you in kindergarten, maybe you were absent that day. I've long ago realized that trying to convince close-minded twats like you to be more accepting is like asking a wall to not be a wall. Fuck you, I'm listening to some Godspeed.

  • @BlindSniperSurvival I hope you know you're talking of a person who's descended straight from Germany and various Scandinavian countries and is damn proud of it (except for the Nazi part). Maybe taking on opinions of people based on assumptions isn't a very bright thing to do, haha.

  • Why are so many assholes commenting on this page? I came here to listen to some fucking post-rock, not to read some bigoted statements by some militaristic, ignorant, racist, fascist scum.

  • @BlindSniperSurvival Yeah, you're pretty much the scum of the earth. In case you shut it out of your mind when it last came across you,` 90% of the world's problems come from a rich white man, and the poor minorities suffer as a result. I'm proud of my racial background, but I don't look down on others as a result, what the fuck gives you the right to look at someone else and say, "oh, I'm better than them"? Fuck you.

  • @BlindSniperSurvival Wow, how ironic is it that your calling someone ignorant and yet your whole post screams stupidity. You think you are better then people because you're white, yet hasn't anyone informed you that it has nothing to do with skin color. There have been many influencial and important people that have contributed to our society that aren't from the aryan race. It's all about diversity and culture. You obviously aren't a high thinking individual with closeminded thoughts like that.

  • is this the actual video for this song? i only heard it on the album Raise Your Skinny Fists... and didn't realise it was ever released as a single with a video

  • Fucken hippies. Were meant to have war. Its something we don't want, but inevitable. And shut the hell up Canadains.FUCK NAZI's also.

  • @PROisBl00d All animals fight, but not under a flag or a god they fight to survive humans fight for the opposite. We are not supposed to have war.

  • @Grimmjow567 your fucking gay faggot nerd hippy

  • @poryon2 Wow, your actually coming down on him because he thinks war isn't necessary? Douche fucken baggery.

  • @19Labrie63 all i did was call him a hippy

  • @poryon2 hes not a hippy O_O he one of them white power facist fuckers >_<

  • This makes me cry, sheer beauyt.

  • And I hope you guys know this music was written by humans.

  • Grow up you whiney little misanthropists, no-one likes humans but your ideals are just childish.

  • Wow

    Welcome to earth -.-

This is why I'm not proud to be an human, if I can, I'll send this video in space, and alien will destroy us, cuz we worth it.

  • @FracturedCoreSoft

    chher up emo kid

  • @FracturedCoreSoft humans have done alot of terrible things, we are creatures of contradiction, we create some of the most beautiful things in the universe e.g. music like this etc. and at the same time cause war and destruction and destroy our planet, just because we do some bad things it doesnt negate the good things and the beautiful things, always remember that :)

  • Anybody got tabs for this yet?

  • This song reminds me of a journey of some kind.

  • wow....

  • trying to refresh my memory of seeing these guys in summer 2000 at the El Rey Theater: they had 3 guitars, 2 bass players, a drummer, percussionist, cello, violin, one guy on miscellaneous effects. I think that's right, weren't they 10 people together? help me out

  • it shows the power hungry nazis consuming so much until they exploded, their ultimate downfall. we should all be thankful that they did not win the war, that the british people did not give up even during the darkest times of their countries history, when the german luftwaffe dropped thousands of bombs on them, that the US stepped in, and saved the french and english from the greatest evil the world has seen.

  • @bowhunter928 , France was conquered, Paris was full of Nazis. London was in ruins, Britain was worried that they were gonna end up just like them. if the Japanese never bombed pearl harbor. then Europe would either be known as germany or the world would be owned by them

  • @bowhunter928 You make it sound like good vs evil. this is not a hollywood movie.

Every power nation has a hidden agenda...... it has is and always will be what power crazy morons can get for themselves, no matter who you consider the GOOD GUYS

The germans were awful during the war but america and britain have not been that innocent as we still know to this day. no winners in war just blood.

  • this is the cartoon from ww2 after FDR's speech on how if america does not win the war, they will fall into an age of darkness

  • such a beautiful piece of music

  • Dude,i think this vid was more than just music,i think it represented how cruel life is,but at the same time in other parts of the world,Happy and Exciting,Exillerating,Joyful,Every Good feeling there is to feel,My heart is beating faster at the music intensifies,wow..

  • oh my... this sound... and these pictures... just like i could hear my hopes like musik when i'm looking out of the window in this sick world...^^

  • I always picture a global reconciliation when I listen to this music. Quite the opposite of this video but still well done.

  • This goes to show how destructive as a species we are, yet in the context of the music, how beautiful and graceful we can be too.

  • es mierda men acoomparacion de noir callisto

  • @XONEFLY pfff seguí participando

  • fucking music poetry...

  • This is probably the best GY!BE song I've heard so far. Antennas was just tones...

  • "When the earth exploded, I felt an increase in warmth.I don't know if that as my heart exploding or the world telling me it's gonna be alright..."

  • AWESOME CLIP

  • sick tune but these people are cringing out. loads.

  • Listening to this is helping me do a English essay. So calming.

  • fuck war

  • this makes me feel. my heart feels. i can say this confidently, because i know love, this song is love in its purist form.

  • music is an intrepitation.

    it's not set in stone.

  • @deadpool1102 interpretation. Just wanted you to know 'cos I agree.

  • All these people are pissing me off.

    stop talking.

  • power

  • Powerful! Nothing more to say...

  • Ohhu, art strikes again...

  • Music is music, singing is music, the sounds the words make is music, the ideas the words represent is poetry. To place emphasis on the lyrics in any song is to admire its extra musical elements and thus hardly music in the definitive sense, so why call songs music when generally its lyrics are considered its most important aspect?

People listen to 'instrumental' music through an understanding and appreciation of this definitive idea of music.

  • Very well said.

  • you want a better understanding of music? look at it's lineage, thats what classical music was, the ability to convey and evoke emotion simply through the resonance in an instrument allowing a musician to organize and manipulate sound. And therein lies the definition of music.. ANY organized sounds. look up John cage's "4'33"

  • My comment was directed at those who only listen to music with lyrics.

In "4'33" the random rustling's of the listeners environment can hardly be called organised sounds and in what way does 'emotion' manifest itself.

Having said that your definition is technically correct though your use of the word 'emotion' is a bit ambiguous given that the word is used in many ways and is subject to many interpretations. It could mean anything and your entire definition rests upon it.

  • I agree lyrics and singing are no more than another instrument, a song could be in another language and I have no idea what theyre saying (i.e. classical opera) but the manner in which the voice is used as an instrument can convey emotion and add to the song. with 4'33" its not necessarily random though it may not be exactly the same each time, everything is measured. If you consider confusion, anticipation or even irritation as an emotion then I think that counts. Because that piece evokes it.

  • and yes I realize its rather ambiguous because emotion can constitute soo many things and is highly subjective what one person feels about one piece could vary greatly from how another person feels (for example our differing opinions on 4'33"). Its meant to be a little ambiguous because of that subjectivity and the broad scope of "emotions" that an organized sound, or music can bring out.

that being said you make some good points 1scattered, i appreciate the input. :]

  • Beautifully said.

  • @1Scattered Exactly, and you can see a clear example of this in Daft Punks song Around the World. They use the lyrics in the song as music rather than for the words themselves.

  • @1Scattered

Bullshit. It's up to the listener to decide whether the lyrics or the intrumentation provides the art. It can be different for each person and it can differ from song to song.

Take any song and it's the 'music' that conveys the emotion and evokes feeling in the listener consistently. Fair enough, sometimes people could listen to the lyrics first and foremost, but even in these cases the music usually 'sets the scene' in a sense. I guess I proved your point lol.

  • @1Scattered you are being somewhat of a fundamentalist. yes, this is music, but when an artist decides that the lyrics are more important, there is nothing you can do about it. i love instrumental but i have to admit that it "cut's your legs" in some ways, because the only instrumental song i heard that had a political value was made by hendrix

  • @1Scattered Damn that was well put.

  • I apologise for my brother's stupidity. He is too much of a coward to post on his own account.

  • this music is truely amazing. i mean no matter what language you speak or culture you use you can completely understand the music. thats something extremely rare especially for today.

  • Comment removed

  • This music is interesting, and I believe I understand what they are going for, but actually listening to the whole thing got a little boring. Godspeed has stuff I like more than this.

  • It's funny how everyone thinks that everyone else wrong except them.

Even me, just by saying that statement.

  • @Jdcie you couldn't be more wrong.

  • I love your comment cause you obviously don't enjoy music unless it has lyrics and just completely don't enjoy the beauty and skill required to make such music as this.

  • troll

  • Gospeed blows my miiiiiiiiiiind.

  • Michel Bounan wrote great books

  • We will do anything to protect our way of life. We will kill children, mothers, fathers, babies. And anyone who gets in our way. That's what we do to protect our 'moral society'.

  • thats just your point of view my friend and you can change the perspective anytime you want ;)

  • For those of you who criticize our way of life and disgrace those who die to protect it, the awesome thing about this country is that you can LEAVE when ever you want. You notice that people cross oceans and travel from all parts of the world to get here? No one is standing in your way from leaving.

  • Is this on the album "Lift your skinny fingers up to heaven like antennas" ? Because if it is, then that settles it, cause I'm buying all their albums, and because Godspeed You! Black Emperor may just be the best band I've heard.

  • it is indeed !!

go forth and procure my friend, godspeed

  • I will, thank you good sir.

  • GSYBE AND SIGUR ROSS THE BEST

  • awesome.. i imagine epic movies, unmade, whenever i hear their music

  • It makes me so happy to see people in the world that still get reactions and emotions like this just from hearing music.

Although i'd label this as more than music.

  • psshhh pretentious much, its music, great music but still music

  • Yeah it's music, i just mean it's a little more than that, like it's not made just to make money or for people to like it, it's made to create emotive response etc. Just think it's more of an art form than just plain music.

  • How sad that you live in a world where your first impression of "just plain music" is commercial music. Where I come from it's assumed that the default of music should be art, and anything that is not is the inferior exception.

  • It's strange. When I look at the soldiers in the foxhole at 3:40, the music just makes me think about what must have been going through their heads. Something I usually don't do when I watch war footage. I see that soldier in the front, reaching over for something, and I think about what he must have been thinking in such a chaotic situation and what he intended to get before his thoughts, and everything else in his life, are cut off completely from the nearby explosion that kills him.

  • not "God whats gonna happen to us".but what are WE going to make of us?

  • God, what's gonna happen to us?

  • Thank you Nickapottamus :D

aliencrap .... i love life and i love music :)

  • this song is changing my life, really.

    an emotion deep.

  • I find it difficult to understand because this song excited me so much.

The potency is always fascinating in its good and in its evil. This gives us an interior conflict and provokes mixed emotions of excitement and disturbance.

  • Ho difficoltà a capire poichè tale brano possa emozionarmi cosi tanto.

La potenza affascina sempre sia nel suo bene che nel suo male.

Questo procura in noi un conflitto interiore e scatena emozioni miste di eccitazione e turbamento.

  • I've always though of this song as a birth of some kind.

It starts so simple, and then the music crescendos, and life begins. What was so orderly breaks out into the greater universe, and becomes a part of that universe.

  • fuckin world

  • 4:00 - 4:25 defiantly un protocol to say the least. war is shit to begin with but this guy went overboard beyond sanity.

  • i bet he sleeps easy at nights ....

everybody has a choice even if he is a soldier or a pilot.i prefer going to army jail for 5 years than obey an order like that (btw i was a soldier)

  • quite amazing! this is so inspirational and painful to watch. thank you for making this.

  • the part from 4:00 - 4:25 is soo fucking sad

  • this album changed my life. very literally.

  • LOL

  • oh well.

  • Why do bands matter?

Music is it's own language, and it doesn't matter who speaks it, so long as it stays on everyone's tongues. -Weatherman

  • lol agreed. you simply can't listen to post-rock music on youtube because sq is so bad. i just played my own song and watched the video. this is such a great video

  • unlike those fucknuts at the bottom of the page arguing about which band is better, EITS or godspeed you...I F-ing love EITS and im exploreing godspeed you and just enjoying this song, i think people like them at the bottom need to shut up and just enjoy the good songs produced by them and no need to insult each other coz i think different bands are all unique in their own ways

  • this song is fucking beautiful.

  • vicavox sure had alot on his mind =O, but still, fuck you, EITS IS AWSOME!!!!! dont hate

  • great! It's so nice for my ears ;]

  • cause theres no tits.

  • this audio quality is absolutely intolerable, dear lord

  • it's still a beautiful video.

  • Thats the PS3 visualizer lol, I listen to this song so much on my PS3 and just watch that.

  • This is one of the best songs ever.
