I love how the team is always doing random stupid things when they get a Rally call. The only other time we see them is when they're working on the case.
I always chuckled when Lenni brought up the insurance idea, since in a later episode her father asks her if she knows what insurance is and she says "sort of...."
@goldilex Haha, well, she did say "insurance or something," like she didn't truly understand it. It's a good thing she said "sort of" the next time instead of "no" or she'd just look really stupid. XD
rellay like the show! but theres something really stupid though, jamal cant go to jail hes way too young! dont they now that? probably gaby doesnt because shes too young, but lenni alex or jamal should know that underaged people cant go to jail
So if Ghost Story was the pilot and the first case they solved, they must've gone back in time to solve this case. And if Jamal gets arrested on September 12th, he won't be able to make it to the Double Defenders tournament to solve the Thabto case and it'll cause a paradox that will disrupt the very fabric of the space-time continuum and destroy the entire universe! Great Scott!
@DukeDarkshadow Actually, this episode is the pilot. Ghost Story was made afterward. That also explains why this episode Jamal says that Ghostwriter could be a "she," when Ghostwriter says he was a He in Ghost Story. Also explains why there was a "RALLY" with no first initial of a person's name where to meet afterward. They hadn't quite figured that part out yet and PBS had them fix it for Ghost Story.
wait wait wait, how did they know where to rally? usually the rally is followed by the first letter of someone's name. if it's at lenni's house, it should be "rally L"...
@psushgirl You're right. And they didn't even tell Tina what a rally meant! This was the pilot episode though, before even Ghost Story, so they weren't quite sure what they were doing yet.
In the Get the Message storyline arc, Lenni's dad asked her if she knew what insurance was and she said no. But somehow here, in an earlier episode, she not only knows about it but seems to know what insurance fraud is as well.
@jpien I guess September is the month for disaster in New York (i.e. Jamal's arrest warrant for arson in "Who Burned Mr. Brinker's Store?", and later 9/11). ;(
All they know is he was THERE and he could've snuck in back after the cam saw him. All they know is that he was there and they didn't see anyone else.
yea...but someone being there doesn't even nessarily mean they lit the store on fire...i mean bugs were probably in the store and they didn't set the store one fire did they?
It was cheesy, but I love it! I wish they had kept it on the air longer. Kind of sad that almost of them never did anything after this show. I thought Lenni was so cool back then, and I had a total crush on Rob. I totally get why everyone liked Alex though.
I recently spoke with a production manager for PBS who was an intern while GW was being filmed. He said that one of the reasons that they canceled the show that was never really talked about was that the cast and crew was getting sick of the actors who played Alex and Jamal. They started to get really big heads and thought they were "huge stars" and demanded higher pay which was one of the reasons why they cited "lack of funding" as why the show had been canceled.
interesting if true..but they were sort of becoming big stars heh and had a point..maybe the show should have gone on to network tv, when it did it was too different and late..it would have been interesting to see them as they got close to finishing hs and going to college etc to see what the episodes would be like..i would like to know why rob got canned also if you knew...
This episdoe was originally written as the pilot. You'll notice they look a little younger than GhostStory the "first" episode -and they filmed in actual houses instead of a sound stage. They wrote GS at the last minute, made GS the pilot and moved this episode to second place.
The "new" pilot ghoststory worked much better to start of the series than this one. Seeing the kids discover GW one by one gave it a lot more energy.

I noticed that too. And the "Ghost Story" episodes take place in the same timeframe. Jamal Jenkins may of planned 9/11, burning down Brinker's store was just terrorist training.
I hate to say it, but with our society, that is how it can be...Sociology class. Prejudice stinks and is just plain wrong. (so is the stupid blame game...when dealing with crimes anyway...it's typical for little kids, but adults look so stupid when they try it and are found out).
is it just me or do these kids seem to wonder around NYC by themselves like its the suburbs? haha especially in the 'into the comics" episode. Like these kids would be able to run all over without an adult. but its still the best show ever!!
I wonder what it must feel like to have Ghostwriter rearrange letters on your back.

I'm getting a little sick of all the comments about Jamal being black and blamed for it.
LIEUTENANT MCQUAID IS BLACK.
Race CAN'T have anything to do with it.
On a side-note, Jamal was too young to actually go to jail, guess he didn't realize that.

Why didn't they just replace Alex and Jamal with different Actors? PBS should have asked Disney Channel to pick up "Ghostwriter".
