One of my favorite love gone bad songs. I had not heard this version before - love it with Clapton's slide. Sarah Mclachlan harmony would be the icing on the cake.
Are you referring to the pause before she begins again after the bridge? I think she was overcome with emotion. Anyway, it provides a wonderful hook to the song. It makes you care about it more.
@anthonythirteen The note did die out, seemed like she needed a sec or two before continuing. Song, and especially this versions playing, is BRILLIANT!
I never paid much attention to this song until I saw this version w/ Eric Clapton! He took that song to a different dimentsion. You can see Sheryl tapping her heart at the song's conclusion...she realized it too.
I was at this show and this song was simply amazing. Incredibly intimate - like Sheryl Crow was singing to me in my living room. I don't think I breathed during the whole song. The rest of the band (including Clapton) knew when to step up and when to hold back.
I can't even imagine what it must have been like for her to perform love songs she wrote for & about Eric Clapton...with him...when she knew, at this point, he didn't give a shit about her. True story. She's said it herself.
Clapton is great however he just built his stuff from others. He took from the Blues greats who created the riffs and built on them, not to say he didn't create his own, but for the blues he stole like every other musician does or has and built on those riffs. He is great, he is fast, but most important is creative, This slide break is a good example. It is pure sweetness.
whos the guy playin the les paul?

She was singing that from her heart to Clapton. He must have really broke her heart when they split up.

This was a new song for her. She forgot the second line! Eric is bad ass on the slide. This is the best version of this song.

I think she is waiting for EC's note to die out - she is right to do so in the context of the song's dynamics.
