  • Not to quibble but isn't it supposed to be billed as 'Here Comes A City'?

  • The Go-Bys were and ARE fuckin ACE

  • Going back to England, after a long time away, in August. Time to get the Honda superbike on the road. Approach London, through Cambridgeshire. You can see the towers on the horizon - one of two Alpha cities on Earth. Very exciting.

  • Robert is regal

  • Very Talking Heads-ish

  • What a track!

Grants axe sure looks like a Maton on initial sighting. More research needed...

  • I've seen these guys heaps over 20 years but never got to see what I consider their best...such a shame !

  • @ixis99 It looks like a Hohner to me.

  • Oceans apart is really great.

  • Oceans apart is really great.

  • Yes not many songs capture the feeling of approaching a great city. London and NYC: the global "alpha" cities. I used to approach London, from the north, by superbike. Through Cambridgeshire, down the M11. Docklands in the distance, the Heathrow traffic, the other four airports` jets. The fug of London...exciting stuff.

  • The only song that shells the tempo and anxiety of approaching a city. Singular.

  • Here Comes A City from the brilliant (and sadly last album) Oceans Apart. Check it out on Mushroom Records

  • their music only gets better over time..

  • Banging track. What's the guitar Grant is playing here? Is it a Maton?

  • @blacksunfish- I think it is a German guitar that Forster picked up during the time he lived here.Never seen another like it-it is also on the back cover of his 1st solo album. If anybody knows what it is,please let me know!

  • @ixis99 Thanks! I've wondered for a long time.

  • @ixis99 Gretsch surely

  • @randombeliefs Surely a Gretsch inspired guitar, but not a Gretsch. It has 3 pickups/3 switches for one thing and the headstock and tailpiece both have an"A"motif.More like an old Harmony, but the shape of a Gretsch....interesting guitar.

  • It's as if Bryan Ferry met Brian Wilson.... I just love these guys and if I weren't so distracted by Graham Nash I'd be listening to the Go-B's constantly. Thanks for the video!

  • cred for whom it may NEVER con CERN

  • Ahem... the song is called "Here Comes *A* City"! Call me a trainspotter, but accuracy = credibility.

  • But this is YepRock for whom we have to thank this lovely number.

  • rather walk from katoomba to martins place maquarie street sounds better pushing whom in the city

  • w0w...

  • I don't know why someone downgraded this comment, so I voted it back to 0. They ARE a rock/pop group.

  • they really aged gracefully, the late songs are just as good as the early stuff. such a shame that Grant passed away, would've been interesting to hear more from them...

  • Hello Robert,Iris here watching you

  • best band of the eighties , amazing career , GENUINE talent

  • Robert is a genuinely nice, caring and thoughtful man. He can look severe but he is anything but that. When I met him after a show (in fact the last Go Betweens show ever in the USA), I thought he'd be cold or distant. He gave a lot of his time to chat with us fans.

  • I would like to dedicate this to an ex-lover that will never see this... And if she does, Fuck ya! XXX

  • Robert Forster is so great

  • Boy!!!!! what a driving vocal on that hook..sort of like an angry parish priest, on mogadon..are they serious!!!!

  • loved "bright yellow bright orange" was their best album in my opinion

  • oh go-betweens i will always love you, from town halls in the eighties into all the new cities, thank you for songs that stay with me eternally

  • Grant RIP, you inspired me to write songs. God, Robert Forster is sooo gorgeous lol :-)x

  • wow, this song has blown me away !! f####ng awesome. Heard it on Jonathon Ross Radio 2 prog on saturday. Thought it was Pete Shelley (Buzzcocks) at first How on earth did i not hear of them b4 ? Is it the lead singer who has passed away ? Absolutely Brilliant

  • Grant, who passed away, is playing guitar on this one (the bald one), Robert Forster is singing here...he is also an actor and has starred in quite a few good films including Mulholland Drive. Jonathan Ross rules for playing it! The Go Betweens are so great, i advise buying some albums, they never disappointed, all the albums are great :-)x

  • the actor is not the same persone here

  • You will find it is actually a completely different Robert Forster in the film. Same spelling, different man !

  • You are confusing Robert Forster the musician with Robert Forster the actor.

  • What a lovely time with them...

  • Great song, great album, at least they finished on a high.

  • 'Oceans Apart' is one of the great albums.

  • What a Loss.Great Grant McLennan.Fantastic Band."Bright yellow,bright orange" perhaps the best so-called poprock album.

  • Amazing band - just found them last year - loved thelast album and look forward to the past stuff - finding you - no reason to cry - boundary rider - born to a family - wow. I remember right here from the 80's - great song

  • Nice stuff.

  • yes RIP Grant. Amazing soul.

  • great band

    rest in peace Grant
