  • Moved to tears. Thankyou for uploading x

  • I need to return to Tromso, last year I took my girlfriend for 3 nights and had bad weather so only saw a very weak green lights on one night after driving for hours, I must see what Joanna saw, I know its never guaranteed but I must try, anyone who know what fjord he drove her to??

I know it wasnt near Tromso, please let me know??

  • Bloody beautiful. I wish I could see it for myself.

  • Joanna Lumley, is one of our British sweethearts. I watched the whole series when it was on tv and, I've watched it several times since. Joanna is so moved by the Northern Lights, that the viewer can't help to become emotionally attached and share her overwhelming joy. Gorgeous lady.

  • This is amazing

  • her voice is so soothing, she seems like a nice lady

  • BBC HD...my ass... :D Is there a 1080p version of this?

  • I've watched the entire session of this documentary and it was absolutely fabulous!

  • "PATSY STONE AND I HOPE YOU'RE EARING THICK PANTS" couldn't help it, just thoght of abfab when she put on that suit :p

  • Someone once asked me what I would want to see most in this world before having to leave it!! This was one of those things I wanted to see. It is doubtful I will make the trip myself so I must say this was the closest I may come to seeing the Northern Lights!! I cried with you my dear. It was simply breathtaking! Thank you so much for sharing this with me!!! God bless.

  • Thank you so much for posting this video. It is deeply moving to see such a pure expression of gratitude. Joanna Lumley is wonderful!

  • @tigersteve1 seeing as its now april, did you get to see the northern lights???

  • The lights were indescribably gorgeous. When Joanna started crying, I almost did as well because you know that the desire in her heart to see this natural wonder was so incredibly genuine and humble. If I ever see them in real life myself, I'll most certainly cry.

  • Joanna Lumley RAWKS (:

  • one more wish list.

    wow....emotional...phenomenon...

    Thanks Joanna Lumley!

  • I live in Tromsø, and you can actually stand in the middle of the city center and see the lights play across the sky.. I am never moving south <3

  • @tigersteve i think she said it was early march.

  • I know where my bf and I are going to marry!

  • What an extraordinary vision !!...Wonderful nature!!

    Well done BBC!

In the background we hear the norwegian Solveig's Song (Edward Grieg/Henrik Ibsen).

    Absolutely Wonderful!!

  • Just finished watching the very moving documentary "Joanna Lumley in the land of the Northern Lights"....Start looking at min. 04.00 and prepare to be amazed....

  • @tigersteve1 early march :)

  • The other side of Patsy! Broadcasted last year on Dutch tv but this gives me goosebumps, tears in my eyes and make me feel completely happy! Wonderful! Bless you Joanna, i love you!

  • The northern lights are not visible all year round. Only during winter here. Aprox. between late October to mid march:) Has to be cold:)

  • nice looking chick! she's from absolutely fabulous lol.

  • Like someone said:

"No pencil can draw it, no colours can paint it, and no words can describe it in all its magnificence".

    Jeg elsker Norge og Nordlys!

  • Such a beautiful documentary, so compelling so mysterious, a moment of holiness...

  • @AuroraBorealisful Northern light is definitely not visible most nights all year. In the summer you can't see it because of the midnight sun (daylight 24/7) The best month are usually october and february-march.

  • @tigersteve1 This was recorded early march, but february is just as good, but the weather can be a bigger challenge compared to march.

  • In the opening scene, Joanna says she is there in March

  • im going there in feb to

  • My wonderful and lovelly Norway!

I´m from Portugal but Norway is the country I admire the most, not only for the breathtaking landscapes but also and mainly because of the way norwegians live, with a deep respect for nature. I think they are a level above all of us.

  • I am norwegian and have seen the northern lights, but it wasn't nearly as beautiful as this. Probably because I was in the south of Norway and not this far north xD This was simply magnificent

  • Valhalla!!!!

  • I felt the same giving it away happiness, and freedom, and thankfulness to witness this myself as I sense Joanna did here- and truly said the same: Now I can die happily - my God - that happiness she reflects - I share that - I wish the same for all of you - one cannot understand while watching this Aurora Borealis at night, why we people has to suffer so much - we should try a little harder to live in harmony

  • coool

  • I love the bit when the moon comes out and you can see the cottages by the water. It's looks so fantastic and so unreal.

  • How beautiful are the northern lights. I watched this programme and I would love to see them myself. I love scenery too and how beautiful is Norway.

  • forget about bibles and testement.the are made by humans.live by the 10 commandments.the bible and that kind of shit is writen by humans.(10 commanments is what people have to live by)

  • The Bible says that 'Earth is God's footstool'

Does this look like the hem of His garment?

Also, that when the age ends, the heavens will be rolled up like a scroll.

Evolutionists might like to reconsider God's Word on the matter.

  • the comment was a respond to "Stovsa" not Emogal1991 :):)

  • Emogal1991: It is not fake.. I live in Tromsø and we see this a lot of times during winter. But they have tuned the tempo up a bit in some parts of the film..

But this is how it looks.. actually, it looks much better when you look at it with you own eyes. The camera doesn't seem to capture all the details and the very bright colors.

I never get tired of spending hours searching for Aurora :):)

  • haha i know its not fake lol i wouldn believe for a second that it was i was jus sayin it looks fake i have way too much respect for JL to say its fake

  • I was lucky enough to see a spectacular aurora in Tromso a few years ago and was just as wobbly-lipped and misty-eyed as Joanna....a jaw dropping experience that words can't describe

Without any reservation I can recommend a trip to the far north during the dark months...and to keep your fingers crossed

  • it does look fake, but i dnt believe it is i have way to much respect for joanna lumley to believe she would fake this. Besides dnt assume most beautiful things we see are fake?

  • haha emo! how is this fake?

  • i said it looks fake i never said it is fake lol try readin the rest of my comment

  • am so jealous :/ lol i want to go see them as well have done since forever lol

  • Why does it look so fake? I don't get it, its like a bad B movie

  • why do you think it looks fake? have you seen it in real life?

  • No she was there witnessing the whole thing.

  • @AuroraBorealisful How do you know that??

It looks to fake. The light is not right and some places tou can see the full moon and some you don't. I belive some are real though.

  • people who haven't seen the nothern light wouldn't understand how beautiful it really is! it's not fake, you would understand the day you see it with your own eyes. not trough a camera! love it:)

  • No, not fake. Just sped up.

They film it and increase the speed.

  • @AuroraBorealisful on the dvd release they say that the scenes where she is visible in the foreground watching them, were all shot on 2 DSLR cameras, each shooting maybe 4 or 5 second exposures, then they put them all together. The scenes of her reactions were filmed on HD camera and she was lit by a little battery torch - just to make her visible :) They also said some footage was slowed down to try to show the intricacies of the movements. Fantastic programme :))

  • @jasman71 It's so brilliant - especially all the work put into it. Also, they must have found it tricky to film it. The cameras would be amazing... I'm going to upload some extras from the DVDs so everyone, stay tuned!

  • sweet dude

  • You're confronted with one of the most beautiful phenomena known to man...presented by one of the most beautiful and alluring women ever...and all you can do is abuse one another...oh jeez grow up and sniff the coffee!

  • am i the only one who thinks this looks very fake??

  • Nope, it's not fake. The lights have been sped up a bit and edited at places, but otherwise, it's very real. I've lived most of my life in a village 300 km north of the Arctic Circle, so believe me, I know.

  • what is the name of the piece by Grieg?

  • it´s solveig´s song (peer gynt suite)

  • Solveigs sang from Grieg.

  • Music and scenery starts at 4:30

  • Breathtakingly beautiful! The lights and Grieg's music get me every time!

  • I saw this video when it aired on BBC. It's one of the greatest pieces of video ever.

  • Amazing, I had to look for this footage here so I could show it to my parents, (having first seen it on TV).

  • thank you for loading this. I wish i could get this on a DVD :-(

    :-)

  • So incredibly moving ! Please repeat this BBC

  • How ignorant you are to the beauty which nature gives us :P

  • Apt username.

  • You are indeed a turd and the type of ignorant crap that i see walking the streets of where i live all too often.
