My wife,sister,friend and his girlfriend at the time went to this in Philly.I loved every minute of it.My first drummer that I ever tried to play like was Peter.
I will add each drummer has something to appreciate, but there are a lot of similarities in many drummers that don't make them distinguishable from one another. Peter Criss has a distinguished style. I applaud that. I believe it's what sets you apart from others that makes you stand out, not being the same. It is an oversimplified thought to simply state he is not a good drummer. He is indeed a more STUDIED drummer than many, in a more complex genre -- jazz -- and that is to his credit.
As a jazz fan, it’s plain to hear and see that Criss was heavily influenced by Gene Krupa, as he has admitted. He has the Krupa mannerisms, and has utlized licks from the famous Krupa drum solo in Benny Goodman’s ‘Sing Sing Sing’ His drums were melodically tuned -- unlike many rock drummers…though his skills are not technically brilliant, his musicality and jazz influence was inherent in the KISS chemistry. He was a very interesting, bold and unique choice for KISS -- a GOOD thing :-)

I have taken jazz drum lessons for about seven years now because i'm such a huge peter criss fan and his stuff if very technical. as a drummer myself, I think drum solos are pretty subjective, just like music. you either like them for specific reasons or not, very personal reasons usually. Mainly, if you don't like KISS / Peter Criss's style, you won't like his solos. He was/is/will be a great drummer, with a very personal style. Can't compare apples to peas. Carr and Singer are very different styles and songs. To me, Criss was playing with his soul, not with his arms, while Singer wants to impress how fast he is.
@ppvpz well, you could criticize Paul and Gene solos as well then...Gene's not exactly playing a solo to show how great he is on the bass, the solo is designed as part of the show, I think Peter's drum solos were some of the coolest parts of the old Kiss show.

First of all. Peter didn't even want to do a drum solo on this tour , because he thought that they are boring. Read Gene's book for answers for answers about Peters playing on the reunion tour. Paul and Gene made Pete tone his drumming down. Best example for the real Peter . Watch the Brooklyn Bridge show in Kissology 3 to see how Peter really wanted to play.
No disrepect to Eric Carr but Peter Criss was and always will be the better the drummer, Peter was the most technicaly skilled drummer out of all the KISS drummers.

This is honestly the worst drum solo ever. Slow, boring, repetitive and bland. Both Erics could outdrum him easily. This would be fin as the rhythm to a jazz song or something, but not a rock concert drum solo. His drum solos on Alive I and II were alright, though. They were at a good speed.

@Atreyufolife If you watch him in, say, 1975, he was enthusastic, his drumming was perfect and sounded great and his solos weren't too bad. His drumming in the reunion years of KISS brough the band's live performaces down, because he couldn't keep up with the rhythm, and his solos were basically rhythm sections.
The word "best" is being used a lot here. Can anyone define what that means?? Is he best because of his face paint? Or perhaps because of his nice shiny drums? He certainly doesn't come close to being best as a drummer! Take a look at the amazing players out there, guys. Steve Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl. These guys CAN play! However they don't paint their faces pretty colours, so that might be a problem for you.

Some people confuse hitting the skins very hard with good drumming. True, Criss' solos in ther 90's sucked a bit, but he was not as bad a drummer as people make him at times. The rhythim sections of Kiss' classic songs were really clever and almost jazzy. Problems is he is not a metal or heavy drummer. He's something else, from a different background all together, but he can do things that many so called great drummers in metal bands can't even start to comprenhend. Not in this tour though!

well lars ulrich is sad.... he cant rly play drums. thats why metallica has to spend so much time in studio. but i've read about kiss and peter criss got fired because he had lil feud with ace and gene. not because he couldnt play drums. the catman is the original and the best drummer of kiss. but thats only my opinion
This is terrible! I've played drums for over 20 years, and I've seen middle school kids out play this guy. No wonder he was replaced twice in the studio (and ultimately fired from the band). Eric Carr and Eric Singer are millions of times better than this guy. Eric Carr could out play this guy right now in his current state, and he's dead. No offence to Kiss fans out there, but Gene and Paul made the right decision by firing him years ago, and replacing him with an actual drummer.

When it comes to drums, everyone thinks with drummers, "the faster they play, the better they are". That is why less talented drummers like joey jordison, travis barker, and lars ulrich get more recognition, when all they can play is slightly altered basic rhythms.
Peter Criss may not be original, but he sure knows a good rhythm when he plays one, and he can work those drums in rhythms that ppl like urlich and barker can only dream they can do.
Peter Criss made me want to play the drums. he was my first influence in the '70's. For him, this solo is fine. However, by the time of the farewell Tour, his ability became so diluted that he was incapable of performing to an acceptable level. When I saw sycho Circus in Jersey, they played 'Makin Love' and he couldn't even complete the single roll fill around the kit. His timing was horrible. it's not to denegrate the man, but get a grip. His prime was in 1975. Anything since is conversation.

He's amazing here but during the world domintion tour he lost it! There was no solo and a setlist of only 14 songs, because peter couldn't keep up. They should have stuck with eric when he joined for the Australian farewell tour!

I was a Kiss fan when I was a kid -- first songs I ever played on drums were Kiss songs.
We have to be real and honest here gang. Peter Criss is not a very good drummer and that's just fact, BUT it's not about being the best, fastest, most technical, etc. It's about doing what you love and doing so with passion.
Kiss themselves are one of the least talented bands of all time and look at the success they've had.

For me it's about whatever tickles my fancy at a given moment. I was a drummer for many years so I understand that Portnoy is one of the best rock drummers alive, but Peter Criss is what lit my fire to play drums as a kid, so I am indebted to the man big time.

Peter Criss was my idol when I started to play the drums. Looking back, I now know why. Within a year on the kit, I could play what Peter played. Too bad that after all this time he never went any further with his drumming. He should not solo. He sounds good grooving with KISS (yes, he grooves).

First of all. Peter didn't even want to do a drum solo on this tour , because he thought that they are boring. Read Gene's book for answers for answers about Peters playing on the reunion tour. Paul and Gene made Pete tone his drumming down. Best example for the real Peter . Watch the Brooklyn Bridge show in Kissology 3 to see how Peter really wanted to play.

No disrepect to Eric Carr but Peter Criss was and always will be the better the drummer, Peter was the most technicaly skilled drummer out of all the KISS drummers.
Donr get me wrong I really like Eric Singer but there is only one Catman.

@mrtamberineman123 Honestly, Peter Criss, and I am a HUGE KISS fan, when it comes to skill and actual musicality and the ability to impress with a solo, he was the worst drummer in KISS. I'm not saying that his contribution to the band was unimportant or that he was a terrible drummer. He got the job done and made a huge impression on the drumming community doing so, but saying he was the BEST drummer in KISS is a bit out there. @mrtamberineman123 Have to agree with Mr Tamberineman. There is a video on here of Eric Carr and he clearly has electronic drumheads on his setup. I commented that Peter never used electronics, and someone bout bit my head off because I dissed a dead man. Not taking anything away from the Late Mr Carr either, just that I always will prefer Peter. Eric Singer is a good drummer as well, but I give more props to Eric Carr because Carr at least had his own unique Make Up design, not a copycat

personally, we could all argue whos what to who, I have loved KISS my whole life, i dislike all the fucking band wagon hoppers who think they have the chops,emotion,and determination to let it all hang out like Peter, not cause hes the origanal and Best to me, but because youve missed the point of KISS the Origanals, which leads me to think you were not there in the begining like me. This is honestly the worst drum solo ever. Slow, boring, repetitive and bland. Both Erics could outdrum him easily. This would be fin as the rhythm to a jazz song or something, but not a rock concert drum solo. His drum solos on Alive I and II were alright, though. They were at a good speed.

@Atreyufolife His Level? He was unceremoniously kicked out of the band 3 times and tried to make Paul and Gene miserable on The Farewell tour just because he made a couple dollars less than Ace (Which he didn't need, and secondly, he didn't do as much as Ace).

@Atreyufolife If you watch him in, say, 1975, he was enthusastic, his drumming was perfect and sounded great and his solos weren't too bad. His drumming in the reunion years of KISS brough the band's live performaces down, because he couldn't keep up with the rhythm, and his solos were basically rhythm sections.

The word "best" is being used a lot here. Can anyone define what that means?? Is he best because of his face paint? Or perhaps because of his nice shiny drums? He certainly doesn't come close to being best as a drummer! Take a look at the amazing players out there, guys. Steve Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl. These guys CAN play! However they don't paint their faces pretty colours, so that might be a problem for you.

To any Peter bashers I would say: Don't judge him by vids of when he was in his fifties--none of us will have the same energy level when we're fifty something as we had in our twenties...listen to his early solos from the early to late seventies---100,000 years, esp. & if you don't think he's one of the best, then you must be determined not to give him any credit. PC inspired many to take up the instrument.

Some people confuse hitting the skins very hard with good drumming. True, Criss' solos in ther 90's sucked a bit, but he was not as bad a drummer as people make him at times. The rhythim sections of Kiss' classic songs were really clever and almost jazzy. Problems is he is not a metal or heavy drummer. He's something else, from a different background all together, but he can do things that many so called great drummers in metal bands can't even start to comprenhend. Not in this tour though!

This is terrible! I've played drums for over 20 years, and I've seen middle school kids out play this guy. No wonder he was replaced twice in the studio (and ultimately fired from the band). Eric Carr and Eric Singer are millions of times better than this guy. Eric Carr could out play this guy right now in his current state, and he's dead. No offence to Kiss fans out there, but Gene and Paul made the right decision by firing him years ago, and replacing him with an actual drummer.

i have to say that there is a live concert of metallica that lars does the vocals and hetfield does the drums, guess what, EVEN HETFIELD CAN PLAY THIS SHIT.
it's right in front of your eyes guys, this is a rediculus solo, even ppl with 1 hand can play that, get over it, lars is way better than this shit, mikey dee is even more, zappa's drummer is way much better from all those drummers.

Peter and Ace were my two Influences...without Peter I would've never started playin drums with 3 years...and without ace I would've never started playin guitar with 6...man those guys are awesome...sad to see what kiss has become...just saw some vids of 1975 with deuce and strutter...man those guys were rocking back then...I hope they REUNITE one more time...

When it comes to drums, everyone thinks with drummers, "the faster they play, the better they are". That is why less talented drummers like joey jordison, travis barker, and lars ulrich get more recognition, when all they can play is slightly altered basic rhythms.
Peter Criss may not be original, but he sure knows a good rhythm when he plays one, and he can work those drums in rhythms that ppl like urlich and barker can only dream they can do.

Peter Criss made me want to play the drums. he was my first influence in the '70's. For him, this solo is fine. However, by the time of the farewell Tour, his ability became so diluted that he was incapable of performing to an acceptable level. When I saw sycho Circus in Jersey, they played 'Makin Love' and he couldn't even complete the single roll fill around the kit. His timing was horrible. it's not to denegrate the man, but get a grip. His prime was in 1975. Anything since is conversation.

@stevedrums Hey Man,I agree with you.Peter was my first influence on the drums.I saw them in 2000 in Trenton ,NJ and he didn't even do a solo.I have seen Kiss 12 times and it was the only time I didn't see a drum solo.I think by that time they knew he just couldn't do it.I love Kiss and Peter Criss will always be my favorite,but it is what it is,as they say.

He's amazing here but during the world domintion tour he lost it! There was no solo and a setlist of only 14 songs, because peter couldn't keep up. They should have stuck with eric when he joined for the Australian farewell tour!

I was a Kiss fan when I was a kid -- first songs I ever played on drums were Kiss songs.
We have to be real and honest here gang. Peter Criss is not a very good drummer and that's just fact, BUT it's not about being the best, fastest, most technical, etc. It's about doing what you love and doing so with passion.
Kiss themselves are one of the least talented bands of all time and look at the success they've had.
Hell I love these guys because they're about having a freaking blast without care!

@hellsSG Very true. I mean my favorite band is Dream Theater who are light years ahead of Kiss technically, but again, it's not always about who can blow your face off playing odd time signatures or 3 billion notes per milli-second.
For me it's about whatever tickles my fancy at a given moment. I was a drummer for many years so I understand that Portnoy is one of the best rock drummers alive, but Peter Criss is what lit my fire to play drums as a kid, so I am indebted to the man big time.

Peter Criss was my idol when I started to play the drums. Looking back, I now know why. Within a year on the kit, I could play what Peter played. Too bad that after all this time he never went any further with his drumming. He should not solo. He sounds good grooving with KISS (yes, he grooves).
