Another person who exposed Gov Young for what he really was is his 52 wife, Ann Eliza Young...In 1876, she published an autobiography entitled Wife No. 19. In it she wrote that she had "a desire to impress upon the world what Mormonism really is; to show the pitiable condition of its women, held in a system of bondage that is more cruel than African slavery ever was, since it claims to hold body and soul alike."
EscapeNJ --- Mormons began a lot of trouble. Haun's Mills... You people have blamed 'Gentles' a long time for abuses YOU started. You them for the exterminations, when YOU were the ones who declared war on America, on the gentiles in a 'war of extermination' FIRST UTTERED BY RIGDON, IN HIS FOURTH OF JULY SPEECH. Boggs merely repeated by a threat given by Mormons several months later. Grow up and stop being brain washed
@Sherlyjames You don't know what you are talking about! Governor Bogg's was leding attacks on the Mormons when he was Lt. Governor. Not to mention that Mormons were inviting free black to move to Missouri with them. Bogg's had his sights on land that the Mormons were buying, which he later took at gun point. Non-Mormons began the Missouri Mormon war. Raids on Mormons led to Mormons atacking Non-Mormons and so on.
Really, Mr. Voight?!? Did you happen to read about the Haun's Mill massacre of Mormons? How about the Missouri Mormon Extermination order that remained on the books util the 1970s?!? I'm sure you researched the history of Mormon persecution as well as you raised your crazy ass, immoral, and perverted daughter Angelina Jolie!!
I tried to watch this film but it was so one-dimensional. Mountain Meadows would make an interesting study but this is more like dial-a-prayer. It's insipid. Too bad the script wasn't up to the history involved. I'm not saying the movie should be nicer to Mormons. I'm saying the movie should at least try to understand what happened there, and not simply exploit these deaths for popcorn and an opening.
Wait, he went on the web and got lots of hits on the subject, then he says that it was hidden away? I learned about it in HS in Montana and I also learned it in US West history in college. Hidden away? Anything to sell a movie, I guess. Notice how the almost NONE of the interview is about the film. Voight doesn't even buy into this movie.
The mormons involved in this massacre were living in a state of paranoia. Read the following historical events and you may get a better understanding of why they did what they did. The Haun's Mill massacre, the Battle of Crooked River, the Missouri extermination order, the murder of Joseph Smith, History of Nauvoo Illinois etc.
NOT Joseph Smith. the Bible is the word of God, if you don't believe that, stop calling yourself a Christian. say what you want about the bible but atleast it wasn't written by a treasure hunting, con man, polygamist like smith. the Bible is the word of God... the book of mormon is a comic book minus the illustrations and believeable plot line.
Who wrote the Bible? When did they write it? What did they leave out? What did they put in? Who decided what was in and what was out?
There is nothing in the Book of Mormon which detracts from conventional Christianity. By the way, which version, sect, dedomination of Christianity do you believe in and which of them do you think are wrong?
You bought into what Hollywood had to say about this whole event in Utah just as Obama supporters buy into that crap that he brings hope. You are all a bunch of idiots.
There were more scriptures than just the Bible, anyone who STUDIES it sees that, you don't study it and have not read it completely, just as a typical stupid mormon critic.
I am not sure about the 'Freak' part but the Mormons on YT are most definitely causing me to think very low thoughts about Mormons.
I don't think you guys are what you pretend to be.
I think you are a bunch of hypocrites who get away with a lot because you can always fall back on your "The Church Is True" and "Everyone is Anti-Mormon" mantras and shift blame to someone else.
The LDS church has always brought it's problems on itself.
Once again an over dramatized, sensationalized movie flops big time at the box office. It's funny how some idiots feel they can actually learn history by watching anything produced in Hollyweird. sad sad sad
People didn't focus on it because the media doesn't focus on the fringe Wacko Christian element. Now that we have a prominent LDS member up for president and could very well win, it's now okay to go for interesting early American religious history. They should do one about how the Mormons were driven out of state after state even after barn burning deadly massacres by so called Christians.

@Undertaker202 Jon Voight is a great actor, but he does not know a lot about the Mountain Meadows Massacre. So where is the Truth?
