Hyenas don't even belong to the dog family... They LOOK something like a dog, but they are NOT dogs. Look it up. I'm tired of seeing people call them dogs when they're obviously not. I'm a huge hyena fan and I know a lot on them. I've been to the zoo, seen hyenas up close. Lions and lionesses, yes they're cats, but hyenas are NOT a part of the dog family. @Hyapin Yes, they are dogs, but then again, so are bears. The Taxonomic classification system you refer to was done by John Edward Gray. Ever heard of him? He established zoology. You can classify by a number of things, and usually paws (for trackers and hunters mmmmm...tasty) was a good way. Hoofs vs paws ;) But bones are a better way (Egyptians did this). Gray put them in the family akin to cats (Feliformia). Geneticist would disagree. Paleontologist would disagree. Zoologist=extinct.

I have seen this episode... They didn't give up the kill becuse they were scared of the hyenas. They gave it up because they couldn't drag it to a place where they can defend it on a full stomach. Look at the size of their guts. They had just eaten their fill and decided the few scraps of meat left on the kill are not worth fighting for.
