Just came across this documentary, although saw some of the video on The U.S. vs. John Lennon. I hitchhiked down to Ann Arbor in the rain with my friend Steve (forgot his last name) from Central Michigan University. My impressions: it was like an indoor, political Woodstorck that opened my 18-yr-old eyes to the counter-culture of the early '70s. Incredible sharing of everything that night. This is the very essence of the times. Power to the People!
This benefit led to the very lenient decriminalized marijuana laws in Ann Arbor... you can walk down the streets of Ann Arbor and be smoking a fat doobie and have an ounce of indica in your pocket, and if the police decide to stop you, you will only be charged a $25 fine, I live in Metro Detroit and plan to settle down in Ann Arbor to raise a family and eventually get my Masters from the University of Michigan... it's a great city man, so alive
at part 2 in ann arbor dave peel called JOHN@YOKOup on stage and dave left the stage but as you can see I was wareing the same shrit as peel so alot of people thens he's next to YOKO at part.2 but that was me i made a bass from a broom i'm left handed andpeel is right handed best to every one love you John@yoko your freind RONNIE KING FROM M>S>U>LANSING MICH
Im fairly certain Yko has the rights to all of the john lennon footage since she is in it. i dont think the dvd would sell as well with-out the lennon footage. although the stevie wonder and bob seger performances are top notch
@Alking1977 I had A clip from this up that was from the concert for the RARHOF of Johnny and Eric playing Dizzy Miss Lizzie, It ending up shutting my first YT page down. STRIKE THREE. Careful.
john sinclair got sentenced before 1970 because abbie hoffman ran up on stage at woostock screaming about how it was unfair during the who's set and townshend hit him with his guitar and that was 1969
At about 28:00, that's incredible film-making. The phone call of John Sinclair from the prison, talking about the world, and the way the system works against people...You could apply those things today...
Bobby Seale told me about his speech here,he said when he finished the rap on the environment four or five couples started doing "it" right in the front row! Re Release this in the theaters!
as far as i can tell the performers are the up, bob seger system, phil ochs, archie shepp, commander cody and the lost planet airmen, stevie wonder, the other cats doing the speaking are bobby seale, rennie davis, david dellinger, finally john sinclair's wife and mother, jerry rubin in that order.
John Sinclair was the leader of the White Panther Party, as well as a poet and the manager of the MC5, and he was put in jail for selling two joints to an undercover cop who incessantly kept on pestering John to get him some marijuana.
We just left the Detroit metro area, it certainly was a hot bed. I saw the 5 at a bowling alley near my hometown in Westchester Co NY in 69...can you tell me when and if Bob Seger shows up speaking of MI rock and roll?
