Besides, this little movie is just beautiful. I like the coloring and I especially like the choice of music. Bonnie Beecher is a goddess for singing like that and the camera is incarnate divinity for taking such films. Thanks to you for being my prophet. This video is worth my worship.
lol I dare you to find even a single camera that can compare to that footage for that retail price. If you find one let me know. Haha The GH1 footage is comparable to the average $5000 camera. Its like a slightly downgraded version of the HVX in a DSLR body. Good DOF adapters for the HVX alone would cost as much as this camera does as a complete package. I'd say its a freakin killer deal at only $1500.
Indeed for filming 24P that is true. Filming 720P 60P is still a different story. The 7D is even better about the jello effect. See for someone who doesn't have $4-5000 to spend on an HVX/HPX with P2 and the works these DSLR cameras can be a pretty darn good alternative. Many pro filmers use 7D and 5dmkii for B Cameras.
True I have been doing tests with both the 7D and the GH1 and it's a wash. The GH1 actually gets a little mores resolution (around 630 lines vs the 7D's 580) no these cams don't get 1920 res not even in your dreams. The GH1 would have a better image IF it didn't have the crippled wimp o matic 17 mbit codec. As it is, the 7D images hold up better to editing and look more solid BUT they colors are over done and soft focus / images with color mush are a problem.
That's right - the compression on these cameras or the DSLR's lets them down. These cameras trick us by looking the best on the web - but on a big screen - the motion/compression & artifacting are unacceptable. The Pana HVX uses 100MBS vs 17 or so here - but the low light of the DSLRS is insane!!
@FUFriendsUnited You respond now - where we have the gh13 with my custum hack and now even the GH2 hacked - wich makes these cameras AWESOME.. google "clearest video encode ever" or search my channel for "Saturday With the Dogs" and see the difference of full screen 1080p with the hacks.
@BlackoutDOTcom What do firmware hacks have to do with rolling shutter? I only get it with intense rattling, running (literally) handheld, or with whip pans. Before and after the hack.
@FUFriendsUnited The hack helps the rolling shutter a LOT. before it.. the slightest movement would cause wiggle mush.. now, as you said you have to really over do it.
@BlackoutDOTcom Okay so which camera or camcorder is 1080p and has amazing VIDEO quality....pics are not important to me....i need great image stabilization, auto focus, and video quality. Which cam provides that??
@BlackoutDOTcom OK, genius- he doesn't move the camera because motion within the frame doesn't call for camera motion, and creates a more refined, cinematic feel.
Sorry to be the one to break it to you, but your precious hvx was obsolete 4 years ago.
Holy shit I've been sucked into the youtube comment vortex.... I'm leaving now....
@teriyakipoodle Ok person who is talking about time yet didn't read the time I made that post. At the time, there was no hacked GH1 and any camera movement with detailed scenes turned to garbage. I didn't have an HVX i had the same camera and was upset, then it was hacked and now the GH2 hacked and if you search for "clearest video ever" or "clearest video encode ever" I come up in the number one spot.... so stop trolling.
Very nice composition. I was thinking of buying a dedicated camcorder, but would this serve just as good? I currently use the Panasonic DMC TZ4 for both picture taking and video taking. Check out some of my videos. Let me know if the GH1 is worth the upgrade or extra money. Please.
If you really want video, GH1 is nice, but a dedicated camcorder is better.... on other hand, you can take great stills with GH1 and change lens if needed... check G1 if you don't mind discarding video (by having a dedicated device) but still want to take great photos...
No zoom while filming? If not, than it's just a camera taking "moving photographs". What's the point of promoting a still camera's ability to film if it doesn't zoom when filming?
you can zoom all you want. you just have to manually zoom with the lens ring. and if you noticed, most films you watch will never zoom in during a shot. they move the camera, never zoom the lens. that all kinda stopped back in the 70's you know. guy walking down the street with a tight close-up. then a quick whip-zoom out to see the setting hes in. by todays standards, that defines cheesy.
Your point on the manual zoom is taken malcolm. No need to get so defensive. You just talk rubbish then, like 70s and cheesy. When you think of zooming, try to think documentary. That would be the nature of most people's filming ambition. Zooming, and zooming out in particular, is just as in as it ever was. Or are you seriously thinking about shooting a movie with a DSLR? Coz in that case I agree. Screw the zoom, unless..... ;)
this is so amazing!

Wow!! That was some beautiful footage and excellent music and editing too. I own an FZ18 but it can't touch this thing.
I assume you recorded that in the 1080p/24 mode. My question is how much memory would be used by a video this size?

@BlackoutDOTcom You could get the GH1 with Lumix G Vario 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 ASPH Mega OIS Lens for as low as $375, what is the best price on the hvx ?

@BlackoutDOTcom Only with rattling and whip pans. If he put it on a slider, this video would have only been better.

zooming is a terrible thing to do in filming. that's why I didn't zoom! Repeat natural eye movements, golden rule in filming.
