As I look back on history when women didn't have the vote, or particular groups of people were excluded because of their "sin", I'm grateful that there were people who had the courage to change what was wrong.
Similarly, one day in the near future, we'll reflect on this video with relief, perhaps saying, "Remember when...? Thank God we had the courage to make changes."
As a UM, I am downright embarrassed that he was treated that way. There is a conference going on RIGHT NOW where they will vote on an amendment that will stop churches from banning anyone from membership. It is weighing heavily on my heart today. I hope that the correct decision will be made. Please pray for the amendment to pass.
I am a gay son of a United Methodist pastor in Indiana. I was baptized and confirmed United Methodist. Our church was recently asked to be a host church for a forming Reformed Catholic Church. But my father had to deny them because The Reformed Catholic Church accepts gays and lesbians as candidates for ordination as pastors and the UMC does not. My father approves of my sexual identity and felt bad for this. We are now members of Reconciling Ministries Network for the UMC.
Joey, I am praying for you. As a single gay pastor serving in our church, I have to serve in the closet and without the joy of a mate for fear of losing my ordination and the means of taking care of my family. I love the Lord and I know He called me just as I am. I pray for your stamina and patience, please pray for mine.
My sister got her master in divinity from Candler. She intended to be a UMC preacher, but realized she would have to live a lie and she is very much in love with her girlfriend, who also has her masters in divinity. My sister became a chaplain and her girlfriend became a UCC preacher. UCC is pretty Wesleyan, but ordains GBLT people. I told her I was going to stay a UM and start a revolution.
Wow! Well there is the same thing in brazil, so we have a inclusive church now, 600 members now and 6 missions one in argentina, look my profile in youtube i have videos of our ministry in portugues with english subtitles! congratulation!
Seems to be a common reaction with the churches. You can hope for change, but I don't see it even on the horizon. Love means something different to me.
Good thing God doesn't throw us out or refuse us membership

Joey, That's why I no longer go to any church. They will not allow you to be "family" with them, but they will use you for thei own purposes.
