  • How has this been on the Candyrat channel for 6 years and I haven't seen it yet? This is my favorite Antoine Dufour song, I'm so happy I finally get to see how he plays it

  • @Made4EvilUsed4Good It kind of does sound a little bit like a mistake tho. I know he meant to do that. But it would have been better off not doing that.

  • @thiswasrigged1 "it would have been better off not doing that."

    That's a matter of opinion mate :)

  • hmmm weird, 9 deaf people were here

  • You almost never see these guys make mistakes, absolutely amazing. Though it happens at 3:25 Thank god he's just human too :)

  • @Ramon1233 actually..he meant to do that :D I skimmed through the tab and saw a Crescendo and Diminuendo mark there

  • @Ramon1233 no wrong he made a mistake purposely so we think hes human but really hes an ET and his planet thrives on music its true i saw it on ancient aliens

  • at 0:17 ,does he not look like Jeffrey form the Julian Smith vids? :D

  • we meet again 240p....

  • does anybody know the tuning for this song?

  • @Snavewolf79 DADGAD. if you go to his website and look under the FAQ he has the tunings of all of his songs at the bottom. :)

  • 0:17 ... HE'S WATCHING YOU!

  • The brain on this man!

  • wow, this song is pretty progressive!

  • Antoine is just a little good at guitar....

  • this is great but i prefer the version with tommy gauthier and Antoine

  • Beautiful

  • Does he have the same t-shirt on always?Naaaa he must be like ''My songs are easy, I'll record them all at once.Who need breaks anyway.'' lol

  • i wish i could play like this but my fingerpicking skillz suck...

  • whats the tuning for this song?

  • @TUguitarrist525 DADGAD

  • For this song, I prefer guitar only version. Just sounds so much better!!

  • If I could afford it I would be blessed to get guitar lessons from Antoine Dufour...

  • Perhaps his most difficult creation...

  • @NEWPAGE92 Go listen to "To Run in a Dream" . . . . .

  • @crunkykong Go listen to "The Drive Within." It's more difficult for me to play than "To Run in a Dream" is.

  • 1:43

theres nothing better than watching an incredibly talented musician get lost in his own music. love it dude.

  • incredible. i do love this version but you cant get better than the duo with tommy

  • very goob #LOL

  • if there was one person that should be eligible to live forever it would be dufour, this music can not afford to die it is simpily amazing..

  • you are goodplayer !

I looked you on you tube .what a nice play!

  • you are good!

  • Jeez 1:38 to 1:41 is freakin sick.

  • I will never understand how someone can write music? Where does it all come from?

  • @Fiskarrr

    The heart.

  • hey does anyone know exactly what he does from 0.57 to 0.59?

  • @BLUEScrazy

He does some harmonics slapping guitar body =) And to make it better slaps even the 6 th string :)

  • @BLUEScrazy Yeah, definitely using fingers 1 and 2 to make a sweet percussive sound on the strings themselves (hitting the bottom ones for that), coupling that with good old slap harmonics and left hand tapping. It's a technique he uses a lot and it's not too hard once you get that hang of it. Plus, it really spices up a song!

  • I've made a tab for the whole song if anyone is interested in it, just send me a message and I'll send it by e-mail :-)

  • @elchulachu hey dude I recomend you dont share just because Antonie sells the tabs and thats how he makes his living

  • Wow =D i learning this song right now and its a lot or intense than it looks. Im only on the first few seconds and im already wondering if ill ever be able to play the whole thing haha

  • @TjProductionsReno Actually I find it more difficult than many other pieces of him and his friend Andy McKee. After over a year of practise I am able to play this song so far that I hit each note at the right time. At this point I realize that I most probably won't be able to play this song as he does. It's more than mechanical skill, much more. It is just amazing.

  • @can3x If you have been practicing this for over a year, you are selecting repertoire too far beyond your skill level. Mr. Dufour didn't wake up one day, pick up a guitar and start playing this. He is a classically-trained, professional musician. You'll go farther in your musical journey if you practice the basics and build on those basic skills. Skipping too far ahead hurts your progress. Enjoy the journey. Make Ionian (major) scales sound musical before tackling this amazingness. : )

  • @jabrookesq It was this piece that inspired me to learn hard in the first place, so without it I wouldn't have made any progress at all. Thanks for your great inspiration Antoine!

  • @jabrookesq ...you're still right anyway :)

  • @can3x It is this guy is like my hero XD

  • It's hard to comprehend all this sound is coming from just 1 guitar..

  • It's fantastic! I don't see how one comes to think that this playing isn't as perfect as it can get. Antoine has definetely his own style.

He repeats where others try to fill in with incredibly difficult playing, which is impressive on the one hand but also makes their music much harder to listen.

Antoine skips that and concentrates on the sound of his playing. By the way, this piece here is much harder to play then many from all the other great artists.

  • When looks at the cam it feels like he answered the meaning of life TO PLAY GUITAR!

  • His look into the camera at 0:16 is magical. I've seen him look into the camera once before - it's as if he's cueing Tommy Gauthier to begin playing.

  • ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod, when did this video become public again?! Don Ross's Klimbim, and now the solo version of Naissance, THANK YOU CANDYRAT

  • @Jelzebelze

    new? :D

    add 15 September, 2006

  • great great great...next week I will get my new acoustic guitar.

Percussive guitar is such a beautifull thing.

And it´s worth putting a lot of work into it

  • @Jeahbuddy one year later how is that panning out for you?? hope your making progress this is a wonderfull musical style

  • if you keep responding to him he'll keep trolling

  • Yea the guy is a looser. Anyway does anyone know if Antonie owns Candyrat or something? All the "behind the scenes I see he is taping.

  • vinnothelizard- there is an abundance of people who can appreciate talent. you are not one of these people. you find something you like and protect your feelings by bashing anything that isn't like it??? sad. you suck at life.

  • @331coupe

Youre right, but by adding that last bit you have (and i hate to say it but) "stooped to his level". Youre point was right though.

But by adding that critisism on the end "you suck at life" was uncalled for.

  • i can somewhat agree when you say that antoine repeats verses a lot in his earlier music, but this is by no means trash.

he is an excellent guitarist, composer, and has developed a number of acoustic techniques that I have never seen before.

once you flawlessly cover all of his songs, then you'll be able to flame him. until then, get a life

  • Of course...you probably know nothing of music...music is pure repetition...if you listen to it like that...all music have moments of repetition in it...and also you may have failed to realize this, but this is a rhythm part, watch the violin one with tommy gauthier.

  • vinno are you out of your mind - this man is fantastically talented. Granted, those guitarists you mentioned are talented as well, but in a different style.

Keep an open mind and if you dont like it, dont make ignorant comments. No one made you listen to this, so come back when you can write/play like antoine.

  • Really? Just... really? Please tell me you're kidding. Your use of colorful, descriptive language is certainly an astounding feat, but... "fucks the respect of the instrument?" "rubbish shit guitar playing?" My friend, you have lost any slight semblance of credibility you may have once had amongst your posse of verbally handicapped buddies on the internet.

Antoine is completely different in style from everyone you mentioned. All in all, I'd say you fail pretty hard. Cheers.

  • @vinnothelizard they suck

  • Does anyone know where I can find the tab for this? It'll take me the rest of my life to learn it, but it's god to have a project!

  • Awesome playing. I wish I had that much time to practice. From the heart though, great job

  • Superb playing as always ;)

    5*****'s totally

  • Standard Tuning ?

  • No it's DADGAD.

  • dilettant

  • OMG!! first time i saw him make something close to a mistake !! 3:27!!

    he actually IS HUMAN!

    great song BTW. loved it

  • haha i never noticed that before for, I thought i'd seen all his videos like 3 times each...still he is a god among us humans.

  • you, sir, have blown my mind.

  • how come?

  • amazing!!!

  • Antoine is a favorite of mine.

  • awesome song. great playing technique. lol you're a GOD. jk. but seriously, antoine's one of the best ^__^

  • so good... no comment..

  • Comment removed

  • shut up.. listen to his latest and say that

  • Comment removed

  • Your critique might mean a bit more if the song you were commenting about was among his newest. This song is 3+ years old and he is a much more refined player now. Its unfair to say he can take his playing "to a deeper level" in a comment about a song that's over 3 years old. If you have issues personally with his latest work, something might be gained by providing constructive criticism, given that Antoine reads these comments from time to time. But commenting on old work, makes no sense.

  • this is beautiful

  • I really love this song, I keep playing it over and over. I am gonna learn to play it, even if it takes me forever. Plus it is in DADGAD tuning, which isn't THAT wierd. You what would be kinda wierd? I have seen him do basically every type of technique imaginable, but I want to see him play a song that is just chords, or mostly chords with some flourishes...just one song like that to see how he does it.

  • Hello, listen to no name for love, it's a bunch of cool jazzy chords and he just plucks them in a cool pattern

  • if he did that, we would all die, because hed somehow make it amazing, and god would get pissed.

  • @valvefire His arrangement of Hide and Seek from his latest record is something you're looking for I guess ;P

  • brilliant song and i love the way he looks away at about 16-17 seconds in as if to say im not even trying. this guy is awesome

  • I loved it, you are a fantastic player=)

  • Great player! Enjoyed every second of this pice! Keep rockin :D. Cheers!

  • Such a great song, such a flow, and this is an extremely hard song to play. Props to Antoine!

  • nuuice suuong.. good shi@

    love it

  • i dont get it, whats with the recent surge in kick ass acoustic guitar players?

before i knew of like, one or two, and now i can think of loads, and their all shit hot.

not that im sayin its a bad thing or anythin, but has anyone else noticed?

i blame the tube for this acoustic crises!

    peace :)

  • Agreed! And while I exalt the near-extraterrestrial talents of these harmonic-plucking demigods, I weep for the stringy-haired 15-year-old laboriously plunking out the opening notes to "Stairway" on his stepdad's webcam. Where are HIS 120,00+ views?

  • hahahahaha

    so true...so fuckin true!

  • LOL extremely well put! hahahahaha you the man. o wait nvm, dufour is the man.

  • @HotaTeh if you're dissing stairway... then shame. but if you're not, i definitely agree

  • well, they've always been out there, it's just that now, with the amazing gift of Youtube, they actually have a real window to share their talent, and not just the crap-shoot that is the modern music industry.

  • true, i have a feeling acoustic music is gonna make a big come back in the next few years. (well actually, by the looks of things it already has)

its just a matter of time before the mainstream discovers they can make money off it and butt rapes it until everyone is sick of hearing it =/

its a sad world we live in...

  • the average listener cannot easily identify the elements of music let alone understand anything deeper than pleasure or displeasure

  • There's another "Naissance" song done by Antoine featuring Tommy Gauthier which is also awesome. Why does this and that song share the same name? Is this the solo version? Just curious...

  • Yes, it's the solo version of Naissance. He did the same thing for Spiritual Groove, but unlike Spiritual Groove, this song was written with the help of Tommy I believe.

  • this is antoine's best song i think

  • Agreed. This album was the first one of his I bought, and this is the first song on that album. I instantly fell in love. My cousin plays violin, and we're trying to figure out some of these songs so we can play them together. He's tough, though!

  • Woah great! I wish someone could play this one with me. :p Good luck!

  • Wooohooooo! great work Antoine!

  • This guy must have mastered the acoustic guitar. Brilliant technique, speed. Amazing.

  • I love the percussive feel of this piece. 5/5

  • Bravo, Antoine! your piece literally made me smile uncontrollably! 5 stars!

  • I'm starting to like Antoine more and more every time I listen to him.

although I don't agree with some of his choices in the timing. but who am I, right?

    keep it up Antoine

  • Whenever I think of the current state of music, I listen to Antoine's songs and it refreshes my love for music and reminds me that there are still REAL songwriters out there. Not the ones who shape their songs to be a perfect three minutes for radio play. Antoine doesn't play for money, he plays for the love of music.

  • @kenshin4227 Listen to more metal.

  • @kenshin4227 hit the nail right on the head man, i love it also cos you don't have to have heard the song before to really enjoy it but the more you do listen to it the more you love it

  • Optimistic and beautiful.

  • true

  • It has nothing to do with hammer-ons or pull-offs it's a quick thumbslap on the low E string followed by a muted upstroke and muted downstroke

  • now that ive found his FAQ id rather think he uses his right hand thumb, up- and downstroke... left hand is fixed.

  • can somebody please tell me how to do these erm "rolling sounds" at 0:09 or 0:23 or 0:34 or 0:48 for example?

cause i cannot make it out, neither the left hand nor right hand tell me a thing...

    stephane

  • hammers and pull offs

it is done with the left hand

  • It is simply a quick up-down stroke on the E string with the thumb pick, then partially muted for the desired sound. This is a very fundamental part of antoine's technique, he does a quite a bit of alternate picking with only his thumb by use of the thumb pick. There's a good video somewhere out there on youtube where he shows a couple exercises to develop this skill.

  • bravo antoine, c'est super beau, quel talent extraordinaire !

  • Amazing! I likethe part at 0:17 where he looks up to the camera as if to say, i like this part, do you? :D Great song!

  • This guy does stuff they never inteded a guitar to do. I'll be a fan til i DIE.

  • wow. word

  • somebody wrote that he should join a band and he good many thumbs down... but i also think he should join a band... i think of something like a candyrat-orchestra ;D with so many creative, talented misucians they would seriously blow us into tiny pieces ;D

i know that probably the sound of a single player would loose attention but i would love to hear a piece like that ;] just my oppinion. greets

  • something like the candyrat trio ??

or the duets with andy and don ?

I personally like the solo pieces best. I love what Tommy does with his fiddle, Im just more interested in the guitar.

  • This makes me want to be reborn as a cross between myself and a guitar.

  • Does anyone know what the idea is behind that stereo microphone? Thanks

  • lol....there is no need for him to join a band! If I know anything about Dufour, I'm sure he didn't become a musician to be famous and rich (although it would be nice!).... and all good musicians are the same. He's just doing what he loves, and would keep on doing it. Whats sad, is that when I play Glimmer of Hope and Trilogie, people in my hometown would rather hear a country song or rap, which is very depressing for me. The majority do not appreciate talented musicians anymore...

  • dude...i totally feel you on this one

  • i dont care about what the majority thinks and i dont think that antoine cares lol. there are millions of people who love it and i think thats enough ; )

and even if i would be the last man on the planet who likes it i would continue playing! ;]

  • @Gunner54457 agreed my friend, agreed

  • @Gunner54457 nice comment man not a lot of people understand what music is they just think it's about being cool and making money....shame

  • Would ruin the sounds IMO. What he could do is do a duo album with Tommy Gauthier. Now that i would buy.

  • @MrFroster Haha, it's funny you should say that xD...

  • this is great,i also wonder why this is ot more well known

  • i leave alot of comments on the songs from candyrat, but seriously, i don't know why these fellas ain't more well known. OK PEOPLE, SHOW THESE MUSICIANS TO AT LEAST 5 FRIENDS OR FAMILY MEMBERS, AND GET THEN TO DO THE SAME, AND SO ON AND SO FORTH. anyways, these guys inspired me to go out and get a new acoustic, so i implore you all to check some of my stuff out, i will have a new song up by this weekend, and i'd love to get some comment-feedback. hopefully, i'll be on candyrat someday

  • Antoine, you are my hero.

  • i fucking love his shit, what kind of guitar is that?

  • Stonebridge i think.

  • Stonebridge Model 23-CR.

  • i have the partiture¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

    dadgad

  • i wonder what his tuning is? Awesome job by the way.

  • DADGAD

  • thanks man.

  • how can he do all dis stuffs!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this stuff. I can't get enough!

  • Only 105,00 views?

Wow, Antoine deserves to be more popular. lol

  • so beautiful! =)

  • barbaridade que sonzera tchê, até me lembrou os pampas em dia de boiado

  • sure the tabs for this song arnt all that challenging for a well experienced guitarist, but the technique Antoine uses is a hard one to grasp! learning these songs have helped me become more creative while making music.

    rock on!

  • lol someone is not happy with comments. Great song.

  • Antoine is boss.Thats clean.

  • the sound is sooo clean

  • Thats gonna take me forever to pick:D:D Oh well, better buy the tabs. Such a cool mix of beautiful and cool at the same time! Great!

  • WOW

  • This is good but the one with Tommy Gauthier i soo much better!

  • Agreed, the one with tommy sounds so cool.

  • Actually, both are quite different, to my opinion. There just isn't the same vibe to their duet and Antoine's masterful solo playing.

  • BEAUTIFUL..... i love this.. i cant stop watching your videos ...

    thanks for the music!

  • I can't stop watching them either lol. Hes just so amazing

  • FUCK'N A RIGHT BRO !
