@TopRated123 the vtec has about 20-30 more horsepower (dependant on rpm) but the hyabusa weighs less... with the right gearboxes i cant see that there would be much in it
And I thought the 1310cc Cooper S with fully blueprinted bottom end, ported and polished head, and 45mm DCOE Weber I had 20 years ago was a weapon. Times have changed :)
Just to let you know i am 6' 3 and i absolutely love my mini. they are really small but the seats are very low so you get lots of headroom and lots of the space was saved on the outside. by that i mean an adverage door is about 15c, thick with all the arm rests and speakers door pockets insulation etc. but the minis are tiny! so the inside of a mini is alot bigger than you would expect
I own a Rover 216Gsi Mk1 that has an Honda 16v, 2.1liter, 116 HP.
Any one knows if i could fit it in an old mini? The engine has a great acceleration in the rover so i can´t imagine how would it be at 6000rpm in a mighty mini.....
The Honda 16v was the best engine i've ever had in a car. Almost 100k on the clock when I sold it, zero oil leaks, brilliant mpg....and the only money ever spent was the usual oil, oil filter, and plugs. Then I sold it for a 2 ltr Rover built engine.....BIG BIG MISTAKE! Crap mpg, torque virtually non-existent, and leaked oil continually.
I want to get one of a "true mini coopers," not the ones that are sold in the U.S. How much power can i put in it before i have to do serious modifications? I want it to be functional, yet extremely sporty. I don't want to gut the interior, rather leave it how it is. What kind of price am i looking at here for what i want to do with it? I want to give it like 200hp at high rpm but do it without adding any extra weight.
@LutzfromPS2 200bhp wont happen short of a GSR or 2.2 vtec, look to budget about 30 thousand dollars just for the conversion. it will ad weight aswell.
you must remember these cars were designed to have 60bhp :p
a vtec mini built from a brand new fibreglass shell with ohlins coilovers, racing fuel cell and 200bhp+ vtec engine will be around £12,000 (so around $25000) what are you planning on building it with? gold?
a basic mini is around £2000 for a sound one, a k20A is around £2000 (already 210bhp) a conversion from Z-cars is around £4000, factor is new brakes, new suspension and tyres at around £1500 and you have a monster for under £10k ($18,000)
dude if you can put in the engine and the tranny and do all the chasis mods you have a bad ass car that you can beat up and still make it last you a lifetime. i currently own a decked out mini cooper (non-s. i like the gas efficency) and id kill to have the austin w/ a gsr or any kind of vtec. but thx for the specs areasevenpro. really puts it into perspective on how bad ass this conversion really is.
@ecampo5 You know what you should do? Go really custom (if you still have the car) and get an H22A VTEC turbo in that BMW Mini Cooper and that thing would scoot balls.
VTEC-powered Minis don't play around at all. Car and Driver tested a Mini Tec VTEC and recorded 0-60 in 5.0 seconds and 0.96g on the skidpad. It's practically the automotive equivalent of Manny Pacquiao.
the problem me n me m8 found was it torque steers to much wiv this conversion,, but it a little monster shame he needs a new body ( stuck it into a tree at the end of my road lol) i won the race in my standard cos i finished :) good luck all
Why would you want to do that? adding all that extra weight would be pointless, the Mini is a great handling car standard or not. The only reason cars tourqe steer is because people drive with a heavy foot.
front wheel drive with lots of power causes torque steer, if more aftermarket parts were available to stiffen the front end there would be no question of stabiltiy. i have owned several high horse power hondas and with traction bars stability is dramatically increased
I own a Type R (EP3) myself, and i tourqe steered it myself when i first got it, but unless the person driving the car is a crap driver. Once you find out how much throttle to give it and when, you shouldn't be tourqe steering at all, give or take the odd momment when your angry or its wet and you forget.
man i suck at this computer stuff,my mini is at minitec its got 217 to the wheels, with type r 440 and lsd.they say its got crazy torque steer, how do you like yours, and is it really that bad, thanks for your time.
thanx. thats good to the person who replaced the engine. wouldnt it be hard to place it and fit it in a small area as i think the original engine was a bit awkward?
dude i am from greece and i am thinking to do the same thing to my mini.the question..is can i make this without to cut front end of the mini?or its gonna be more difficult?suspensions brakes?what should i use?thanks for your time
i had it dyno'd since this video...put out 220hp at the wheels....the whole swap can cost you anywhere from $5000 to $10000, depending on what motor you get (stock or fully built) and how much the Fab guy will charge to weld up a sub frame
