DD, altho a home-grown, dyed-in-the-wool Calif. Surfer & Ace strat-man .. actually had Lebanese / Middle-East ancestry. & boy, how those musical roots show in his great guitar + melody-work much of the time. Another great track from The Master-Blaster of the Surf Guitar here. I noticed how when DD moved into the year 1964, his records seemed better in melody ; he seems to emphasise things like castanets more, in back ; and that light background 'aaahhh' style vocal added extra value too ....
One of my all time guitar heros, Dick Dale walked out of the Launchpad bar during his concert, and stood in the middle of Albuquerque's Central Avenue, Route 66, playing Smoke on the Water. He leaned against the front fender of my 1937 Hudson street rod, for me to get a pic! The folks driving by, were wondering who the hell was this crazy guitar guy in the middle of the street. If they had only known, it was the King of The Surf Guitar! "Jimmy, I'm still here, wish you were." 3rdstonefromthesun
I'm 64, and I watched Beach Party 3 times in the same afternoon, to see who that guitar player was, and how did he do that? I've seen Dick about 20 times, and will again, if he's anywhere near where I am at the time. NOBODY fills a room with music, like Dick Dale!

I have the CD "King Of The Surf Guitar", bought it the day before my wedding. 6 1/2 years ago when I knew little of his music.

Thanks colin for the great comments. Yes. a richly-layered tune.
Can't read Master-Blaster without thinking of Mad Max III...

I'm still waiting to see him once! All I claim is that I vaguely know a guy who once played guitar for him during a UK tour.
