It was not lawful for the witness, judges nor those who throw the stones to be sinners. They must be faultless, so Jesus said "Let he without sin cast the first stone". The law of stoning is not an Islamic law, but a Jewish/Christian law set out in Torah that goes back through Moses to Abraham. God commanded Nabi Muhammad to change the law against Adultery from stoning to life imprisonment in the home. After a time God instructed Nabi Muhammad (saaws) to change the penalty of that law again to one-hundred lashes. But stoning was once the law in Islam before the new laws of life imprisonment and lashing was given, as we were under Torah law prior to Qur'an.

It was not lawful for the witness, judges nor those who throw the stones to be sinners. They must be faultless, so Jesus said "Let he without sin cast the first stone". He was not against stoning in itself. He was following divine command which made it punishable for sinners to judge or punish others for committing sin. Muhammad changed the law of stoning.
