It's more likely that most of these songs were formed when they were just playing around in the back of a truck, whereas Bright Eyes was alot more about him writing independently. Bright Eyes was his angsty teen and young twenties music, and it was great, but all great musicians change. For example Bob Dylan has evolved astronomically over time.
