  • thats my good buddy macey taylor on the bass. he is easily the most talented musician i know

  • He looks so young here! Like a little boy wearing his daddy's hat. Bless him, I love Conor Oberst.

  • Wrong album cover, Conan

  • @MrDejavu2u Why do you have so much hatred? Respect the fact people like his music, if you don't that's fine. But don't hate. And actually his parents didn't buy him a studio. One of his friends heard his early solo stuff when he was 13, liked it and offered to record him, he admits his early stuff (such as Water is awful) I still enjoy it (well some of it). Then Mike Mogis heard it and recorded him on an old 8 track. Saddle Creeks Records was then formed. Get facts straight before being a dick.

  • i like this optimistic phase

  • 10 People Aren't Trying to be a Human Being

  • yeah, i know there's scores of others.... but nikorette or danny callahan?

  • @plantingcave you're right, that doesn't make him gay. It just means every studio, that heard his demo knew it sucked, so his mommy & daddy footed the bill, to make him a studio, so he could put out what he thought was music, anyway; But for his parents, NO Conor Oberst...nuff said

  • Wow his old stuff is as bad as his new...How'd he make it? Oh he's gay, just had to bloe a producer

  • @MrDejavu2u You are ignorant.

  • Conor Oberst is so adorable :)

  • I'm too tired and depressive to play on the computer whole night. My solution: i go to bed, and i will listen there Conor Oberst and the mystic valley band's Outher South.

  • diggin Conan's Hair.

  • I'm liking the hat.

...and surprise surprise, I love the song too. His old stuff is amazing, but to be honest I'm glad he's happier now

  • "that was good" is an understatement

  • bunch of morons on here. I'm telling ya. No, this really isn't country. It's much more a soul/southern rock combo. and no, he's clean and has been for a few years, which is why probably why his music took such a dramatic turn. He's only gotten better with age and he's only going to continue to improve

  • @zhibbard Why do you have to define music in such narrow categories? Is it a great song? Yes, it is. Leave it at that.

  • at least he still does coke right?.....right?....

  • i had no idea he was on conan o'brien. you'd think i'd know, too, since i watched the show + that i'm a conoraholic. *facepalm*

  • I'm glad that conor tries sth new with the mystic valley band. I mean if you see all the other great bands, who turn into sth awful, just because they tried too hard to be like they were in their first years and don't moved on.

  • what's that hat for?

  • @twili9htkid its a cool hat thats what its for

  • @james70q well conor with this hat reminded me of snufkin from moomins a bit. doesn't he look a bit funny with it?

i saw a video where he wears a hat 4times bigger then this one

    conor is fantabulous

  • i like seeing how the mystic valley band works, where as we didn't see much of bright eye's entirety on stage. idk

  • I fucking love him.

  • @hollium burnn.

  • marry me conorrrrrrr

  • @notoriously0 I've got a sad sinking feeling that will never be

  • @rumbletime I totally agree, dude. Conors just such a extraordinary songwriter/musician. And i love how much his music has grown and how IMO every song is so uniquely different and meaningful in it's own way..

  • I don't care what anyone says, Conors solo stuff and any collab he's in is just as valuable as his work in bright eyes. He's fucking amazing.

  • anyone know what acoustic conor is playing?

  • @167dwpoole a Collings acoustic

  • awe...i miss the sad conor oberst.

  • @3chanmoo

"aww, Im so sad that conor isn't depressed anymore."

that's seriously what you just said....

  • @krnchieu no what i said was...i miss the talented indi-rocker with a sound that no one else has...not this wanna be country singing folk crap. its great he's happy! hooray for happy. but i meant the music...my bad. this music is copycat yucky redneck shitty poo poo.

  • @3chanmoo

There was two things wrong with what you said.

    1. Conor was more folk when he was playing as Bright Eyes.

    2. This does not even come close to resembling country music.

  • @biggssss Method Acting, A Lover idont Have to Love, Down a Rabbit Hole, A Perfect Sonnet, The Calander Hung itself, Hit the Switch...ok you must have started your cute emo phase with 'Im wide awake...." or do you not know what folk is? tell me where you hear mandolins or pedal steels in those songs. i think its adorable how you're defending connor oberst like hes your boyfriend...but your a poser jonny cum lately..dont talk to me. country lovin idiot ;)

  • @3chanmoo luhh dat folk.

  • @biggssss oh yeah, and you should kill yourself.

  • @biggssss This particular song has a countryesque tinge; so what?

  • conor oberst you are a lyrical genius!

  • reminds me a bit of Tom Petty...the folky stuff

  • i like the hat theme: a reminder to not have a big head maybe?

  • @bignasty0313 thats quite possibly the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

  • @handicappeddoilookok wow... i am with you. one of the more idiotic comments i have seen on these music videos and that is saying something.

  • @bignasty0313 Yeah totally, and like how they aren't floating: a reminder to stay grounded maybe?

  • very well done, by far one of the best. thank you conor for never failing me.

  • I just got out of detox and now i understand oberst's album so much better. Nicorette haha perfect title

  • I like that he keeps evolving. This is a badass song, and it's a refreshing new sound.

  • he needs to grow a beard and maybe ill call this folk

  • my favorite song on this album. cool to see him on tv

  • great guitar solo.

  • I really like this song.

  • Anyone knows what bass that is? cheers for help...

  • It's a Mosrite Ventures bass!!

  • i love conor's new muse man his grown way more and he's 30 years old now if he was still doin bright eyes it wouldn't be the same.

  • I think its strange, I love Bright eyes, Conor Oberst and The Mystic Valley Band, but I hate Monsters Of Folk.

  • How come? I can't get enough of anything Conor is connected to.

  • i thought the same, though there is a song in monsters of folk that conor sings alone, look it up its good.

  • @Devilslittleimp lol... Me too... tried to listen to them again and again... does nothing for me.

  • in my humble opinion... i dont think its less gritty at all. maybe more pure. not trying so hard to be clever. nothing wrong with being more upbeat... they say as you grow older you grow more cynical. good for you conor for seeing the light!!!!

  • cielo es azul just don't go telling everyone.

  • @biirdonawire plus, the mystic valley band were formed when they were all traveling together on his break from bright eyes. It's more likely that most of these songs were formed when they were just playing around in the back of a truck, whereas Bright Eyes was alot more about him writing independently. I think this is Conor with friends we're hearing!

  • @biirdonawire Some people age backwards.

  • @Loonfish like benjamin button.poor guy..

  • ill steal yur bright ideas and make em dull

  • hes great live

  • he's only trying to stay a human being.

  • he's really toned down... I miss his gritty stuff. He's not as afraid of cliche was he used to be. The tune is more conventional, as are the words. What happened?!

  • @derdriui if you think he's toned down, you haven't seen him live with this album. this video is from early on in the life of this song, as well as the rest of Outer South. It's a hell of lot edgier and grittier live.

  • Been trying to learn Taylors solo for 15 minutes. Fun to play so far

  • whats the song called?

  • seriously?

  • "nicorrette"aha, the nicotein gum shit. aha its a weird title but thats what makes it different. if that wasn't a retorical question,.. if it was, i feel stupid.

  • Love this sound. At the the end Conor looks tiny compared to Conan...ahaha.

  • love him love him love him love him

    I JUST LOVE HIM

  • The guitar player on the left's voice is a bit like Bob Dylans, no?

  • @fuel How is he a Bob Dylan wannabee. He discarded this all too common comparison himself. They are playing folk, and unfortunately too many people only hear Bob Dylan when they hear folk.

  • i was thinking the same thing

  • who cares. let him keep written songs with whoever he wants. if you don't like it, don't listen to it. Put Bright Eyes on if your that upset.

  • i love this song..this is a lot happier than bright eyes.. but the other acoustic guitar.. what is he doing with his head?

  • Yeah, I know that guy's weird. He's a damn good guitarist though. I saw them live. He cuts his own hair, can you tell?

  • its called rockin out,, mom. lmao

  • not really

  • conor is conor not bob

  • All of the haters of Conor's evolution should try and think of how he feels. Do you think Conor would want to continue playing the same music forever? Bright Eyes was his angsty teen and young twenties music, and it was great, but all great musicians change. For example Bob Dylan has evolved astronomically over time.

  • Whilst I agree with the general point you're saying, I don't agree on how you're describing Bright Eyes. They achieved an astonishing level of maturity; their songs were astonishingly emotive, experimental and realised. This is different, and it's good, but it's not a total improvement on the genius of Bright Eyes.

  • I phrased that wrong. I'm not discrediting bright eyes at all. Just Conor's more recently have been more sophisticated musically. We all know that conor can express emotions through music with the best of them.

  • einfach geil.....

  • It would be kind of awkward for him to continue Bright Eyes into his thirties if you think about it.

  • Wide awake its morning remains my favourite bright eyes/conor oberst album but the first mystic valley band album was so amazing.

  • this is way better then old conor...he grew up and decided to write the music HE likes

  • he didnt like the music he made before?

  • His point is that he can make whatever music he wants because its his, and it doesnt really matter how we feel about it.

  • Umm, he grew up. You will too one day.

  • haha. im just commenting on the fact that johnes emphasized that hes making the music HE likes now, as if the music he was writing before was garbage or he wasnt really feeling it. it was more of a sarcastic remark rather than an actual question. crixc i totally agree, i dont think i said anything to contradict that.

  • he fuckin grew up man...love bright eyes to death but in a way im really glad he grew out of it and is still making amazing music...outer south kicks ass and the S/T is 5/5*

  • do the HAND JIVE!

  • I don't think it's as good as he is capable of, but he can do no wrong to me and it's still enjoyable! "It's a pirate world, it's a free for all!"

p.s. got my (hat) at a thrift store.

  • conor oberst is like if bob dylan and jerry garcia had a love child.

  • Been dancing to this one all summer in the POOL.

    Rock on boys!

    Ernesto

  • Been dancing to this one all summer in the POOL.

    Rock on boys.

    Ernesto

  • does anyone know where i could find a hat like that? his other one is way to big. i think i could handle that one though haha

  • a hat store. or ebay.

  • Urban Outfitters has a lot.

  • I love Bright Eyes, but I really think Conor is progressing as a song writer now!

  • Somehow I feel the soul of The Grateful Dead in this music. And I like it.

  • seeing them tomorrow! wooo

  • In the style of "The Band". Cool stuff!

  • i would loooove a live video of this when they get more comfortable with it

  • Conor looks a bit like Pete Doherty with that hat. Haha my two favourite modern songwriters.

  • love conor. cool looking bass bass. cool vid. respectable music/ band but not my sound as much, glad he's keeping the variety though and i did like White Shoes... great song.

  • i want to bang taylor..

  • damn they are a sweet fuckin band

  • i love conor's hat.

  • my friend and i just saw a band play here in chicago called Tin Tin Can. We're both huge Conor/Bright Eyes fans and we both fell in love with Tin Tin Can. Thought I'd spread some love for a well-deserving band. Search them here by typing "tin tin can" (include the quote marks or you won't find them). They're on myspace too. FYI. Rock.On.

  • Reminds me of "I want candy".

    :S

I absolutely love Bright Eyes and I like a lot of country music but The MVB sounds a bit bland and forgettable to me.

  • Haha i agree with the aaron carter observation but i think the mvb is great, although more happy and upbeat as bright eyes. It is a cool change but as time goes on Bright Eyes will reign supreme..it's just more perfect in its melancholy.

  • i don't know...i saw them in louisville this summer and that shit was the craziest show i've ever been too. they just have raw power live. this vid is way early in the life of this song because it wasn't even officially release for 7 more months. when i saw it, they played this song fast and loud and it was everything but bland.

  • Am I the only one who thinks Nate should've rearranged his keyboards to face the audience. Atleast 75% of the song he's facing the other way than the rest of the band, lol.

But you gotta love the song!

  • So I guess Conor eats ice cream and texts now??

  • Fuck yea dude that's what's up lol.

  • the hat!!!

  • hes done way better

  • It's NiKorette you fools!

  • Love this song, beautiful. Write some songs you tube geeks.

  • <3 that is all <3

  • What are the actual chords, it looks like a little bit more than just D G

  • I just played along to the whole thing, its D G verses and A for chorus then B for bridge and E for outro.

  • this guys awesome :)

  • ..love u conor!

    ur my life!

  • fuck. please, come back to Brazil :(

  • I dig this. Cool sound, well mixed and decent influences. A guy at work turned me on to them.

  • ...is conor here?

  • Saw them last night! and this song is even more amazing live!

  • SLC show? that was a fucking amazing show

  • FUCK yeah.. conor is so good

  • love this song :)

  • ckeeton1989, your a penis

  • That made you sound like even more of a dick than your first post did, congrats.

Conors songwriting in this tune is first rate as always. When I think of the Mystic Valley Band I think of this song.

  • Who the fuck are you? Fuck off and mind your business, douche.

  • He is so amazing live!

  • i saw him a few a days after this premiered on TV. i was very unimpressed with their performance and i thought the opening act was a hell of a lot better.

  • I guess they sound pretty similar, but still, this song has some of the most generic guitar chords in the world. So it really isn't inconceivable that two people would stumble upon the same implied melody from playing those chords. Long live Conor Oberst and his ridiculous appetite for writing fantastic music.

  • This is a rip-off of a Big Audio Dynamite song from 1988. Same key, same rhythm, same bridge. Listen to "The Battle of All Saints Road" from Tighten Up '88.

If it is an accident, okay. But they're the same song. Conor? Brother? Say it ain't so.

  • unless i got the wrong song, they sound nothing alike.

  • a few of Conor's songs sound similar to others.

just listen to Bright Eyes; Travelin' Song and M. Ward; Helicopter.

doesn't mean they're not both amazing songs.

  • at a most basic level, the verses of this song are basically just alternating d and g chords. not exactly hard to think of, so i think it could be a coincidence. who knows...

  • I know you're reading this.!!

  • yes mike :)

  • Guitarist on the left has the EXACT same setup I want. Outer South is amazing.

  • Conor Oberst will continue to be epicly amazing.

    No matter what anyone says.

I believe Outer South is Genius.

It's more than just hearing Conor the whole time, and its a nice relaxing style, as it should be.

  • Love it

  • this music is absolutely perfect.

    can't wait til july!

  • does anyone know what brand of acoustic he is using? hes been using it a lot the past few years.

  • is anyone here as un-impressed with his new album as I am?

I love his bright eyes stuff and his last record wasnt bad, but outer south just didnt do it for me

  • you need your butt whooped

  • +1!

  • It's good. It takes some getting used to, but it's good.

  • Thanks for uploading this!!

    I watched it that night.

I'm completely and utterly infatuated with Conor Oberst.

  • YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • I can't wait to see him in June in Louisville. I love him so much!
