At this point the crew REALLY needed to be up-to-speed appropriate tech-wise and have their vehicles equipped with extra-wide tall tires (with lift-kits as-needed), full ABR locking diffs front-middle-rear, with traction-ladder ramps, and a land-anchor for winching. It would have spared a lot of extra anxiety, sweat and time/effort -- but I guess the main point is they persevered and no-one was hurt, so the Trip Goes On.
GREAT adventure, esp. dug the splendid hospitality they enjoyed!
Watching these Long Way... -series makes me wanna buy one of those BMWs and make my own trip to somewhere... If I only had money and time.. and courage... and nerves... and skills... and...
But, it's the torque that makes the GS1200 so valuable, and it's a twin cylinder to boot (far smoother over long distance). Also, the 650 is chain drive, and the GS1200 is shaft drive, which is less maintenance and more durable for the kind of riding they're dong. But, shaft drive does add weight as well. Over rough terrain the 650 is a great choice, but when you have lots of long distance tarmac riding and the need to carry heavy gear, the GS1200 is hands down the better choice
@osimnod 650 GS would be A LOT lighter, but they would have a far lower carrying capacity, and they wouldn't have the torque required to handle stuff like mud and very loose sand while carrying heavy gear, They need the power to haul all the stuff they need on board as well as the maneuverability
dude just use the winch on trees.. pull the cars on the other side.. if the winch is long enough that they're trying to get one car to the other side to pull the others, it should be long enough to hook up to some nearby trees
@operationcwaI789789 they would have gotten stuck to patrols rock its to bad they had crap tires mud terrains would have been better diff locks would have helped to
@operationcwaI789789 The Land Rovers probably would have have gotten stuck in the same area. The Patrols were in their element, although they could have used better tires and differential locks. fuck head
@DefconBravo yea that happened to me I thought it was really funny, no I don't have an accent you do! what are you talking about I don't have an accent are you mad?

GS's are great bikes but their weight is a detriment. Wouldn't a 650GS suffice and be a lot easier to handle?
