  • Is this method good for lower ball joints too?

  • Hi I like the video, it's very informative and helpful, but can you please number your videos, so that the viewer is able to watch the procedure in the correct order.

    Thank you

  • @cbr900rr919 A mechanical weld implies the bonding of two surfaces at a molecular level, physically joining them to become one. The connection of a tapered ball joint pin to the matching tapered socket in the upright is called an interference fit. The striking of the two hammers momentarily distorts the taper and allows the pin to be released.

A pickle fork releases the pin using brute force. Neither method will work if the two parts have been welded in any way. "Squeezed".. you're funny.

  • good thing these guys never made a mistake. we got the point thats all that counts. if they were so good why did they need to watch the video.

  • good video bro and thanks. i can't believe some of these people on there they must be 13 years old.

  • for all those who have bad comments on this video please make your own showing the proper way and lets compare videos......wait...u probably need to watch a video on how to make one.....damn...lol..lol

  • You're a shadetree clown trying to sound like a pro (mechanical weld my ass), while using the wrong tools.

That's a pickle fork designed for a pneumatic air hammer, and you're using a carpenter's claw hammer to beat on the end of it, all the while smacking dings into the brake rotor.

How does it go, "Those who can, do; those who can't, teach." It certainly applies in this case!

I don't know who PRO-TEC are but they must be embarrassed to have their badge on your shirt.

  • @MKpVjVLC oh and what are you like 10? i see you don't have any uploads showing how it's done. just favorites about Disney world lol. Just another youtube know it all. and this dude has tons of videos helping other people who don't know how to do stuff like this. and he hasn't steered anybody wrong yet. and he dose it usually the way a home mechanic would do it. so people understand better. so quit your bitching and if you think its wrong put up a video of your shop and how to do it properly.

  • @cbr900rr919 Yes, I'm 10. There, see how cleverly you won the argument with your devastating sarcasm?

However, you do need to work on your punctuation, spelling, punctuation, and grammar; I can tell they're not your strong points.

Back to the video though. Impact hammering: right technique, wrong tools. Needs two metalwork hammers of equal weight. Pickle fork is also ok, but NOT a pneumatic tool being struck with a carpenter's hammer; and dings ANYWHERE on the rotor are not ok.

  • I like how at 1:43 he shows the Proper Procedure for denting your brake rotor with a claw hammer.

  • Nate, thank you for posting this video, showing and explaining how the ball joint holds together by the mechanical weld or cold weld. Your videos are always detailed and all your explainations on how it works are always appreciated by most of your viewers.

  • i have worked on cars for over 20 years and i have never heard the phrase mechanical weld. WTF.

  • @hmech61 thats because mechanics arent scientists

  • Love you stuff nate , But lose the claw hammer man . Get a lump hammer

  • lets break the mechanical weld between your head and that hat

  • guy sounds like he has been drinking...

  • do u make one for 4wd trucks

  • Nice claw hammer. You should use a proper hammer or at least safety goggles. "You'll put your eye out kid"

  • awsome video guy i dint have a clue how too do this it took me about 6 hrs probably a little too long but saved me 300.00 in labor keep it up whit your videos ill be waving at the shop instead of pulling in thanks again

  • More like separate ball joint from spindle not remove ball joint

  • @QQTrick1QQ Ditto to your question! :)

I did separate it... now how do I remove the ball joint from the arm? The video is wrongly titled, however, I truly appreciate the captioning on this video.

  • Love it.. great info

  • To Chaser53pin (what a dumbass) at least use a manual pickle fork for your demonstration dude.

    That just looks silly

  • guess he didn't know he should use an air hammer with that tool. lol

  • i wonder how many mechanics will use a carpenters hammer to beat on their air tool pickle fork

  • maybe he didnt have a compressor/air tool available

  • Mechanics should already know how to do this. I think this vid is meant for do it yourself mechanics and not everyone has air tools at home. good vid though.
