  • I love all these old cartoons. Group up in the 80's and 90's You don't see this type of Disney anymore. We had it best! Except those earlier on. :-)

  • This is why the customer is always right

  • I LOVE SCOTLND AND IRLAND!!!!!!

    thats my home!

  • separate them from each other and they wont multiply, duh...

  • My Gov't teacher showed this to me and my class

  • hmm... seems the audio lags a little...

  • Those Guinea Pigs were assholes. He was being kind to them, feeding them lettuce and playing them music, and they just go get busy without any comeuppance?

  • is this where cool oringal captain kirk scooty mr spock dr macoy as dr bones got theidea of trouble with tribbles? ps irasi guy had the tribblesif i remmber this right

  • too many Guinea Pigs the house is exploded by keeping making guinea pigs

  • SHOWS HOW OUR GOVERNMENT WORKS.

  • Based on the book Pigs is Pigs 1906 by Ellis Parker Butler. You can find it for free in google books.

  • Stop feeing them quadro-triticale!

  • i was expecting FARM pigs D': pigs are my favorite animal

    my youtube name is ILOVEPIGSandcheese

  • @ilovepigsandcheese so did i, except before i saw this cartoon, i though it was about communists or something.

  • fix the lag please...

  • Vintage 1950's Disney! Bring on the Puinea Gigs!

  • Hey, I know some cool ways where guinea pigs could be actual pigs. The rodents obviously aren't pigs, but there's a breed of real pig called a guinea hog. Of course if they substituted "pig" for "hog" in the breed's name it wouldn't be a pig anymore. It's also an interesting fact that a NEW guinea pig could be a pig, as in New Guinea pig raising is a big part of the culture ;)

  • Obvious pig is obvious

  • why do walt disney creates the background abstract instead of real landscape ?

  • @MultiCARTOON It's a popular style for animation back in the 1950's

  • @artistradio It was actually in response to visual cues of the popular UPA Animation films that were emerging during the 50's.

  • This short is the reason I used to own 12 Guinea pigs

  • Yay!! Guinea Piga! :D

  • at 4:17 Marie looked very satisfied

  • What song is played in this cartoon? I mean what title of composition (some classical music or Irish?)

  • @adasslota It's called "The Irish Washerwoman," and old folk tune.

  • I heard that Gary Owens voiced the narrator and this was his first voice acting job.

  • It's not Owens (don't go by what you "hear"). It's William Woodson, who was a veteran radio announcer and also narrated "Casey Bats Again," used near identical narration for the famous "Odd Couple" narration (and later, in deeper tones, the likes of "Superfriends")

  • @SpanishPopeye1 Someone must've made a mistake when I was adding it's page to VoiceChasers.

  • Wow, that process was a phenomenal waste of paper

  • I remember this!!.. Man, brings back memories.. :D

  • Is 4 cents really that big of a deal? I know money was worth more back then but come on.

  • loving the spastic building dance ! ^_^

  • ... when "Mike" became a mother. CLASSIC!!!!

  • Ah, the blunders of the bureaucracy.

  • If this story took place in Peru, Bolivia or Ecuador, the solution would be simple: eat the perpetually multiplying little buggers.

  • Hold them then and harm them not,

and when you find you're wrong,

    deliver them to my address,

    HEALTHY, HAIL, AND STRONG!!!

  • Doesn't even come close to the wit and humor in the original Ellis Parker Butler writing.

  • Thank you so much! I have this in a children's book of Disney stories along with Lambert, Ben & Me, The Old Windmill and... oh, now I have to go dig out the book. What a great cartoon!

  • A funny old classic.

Wonder why is it called "Pig is pigs"? Shouldn't it be "Pigs ARE pigs"? Or maybe was the word "is" both singular and plurar in the late ninteens/early twenties?

  • Hi! It's called "Pigs is Pigs" and it's supposed to be funny, not correct. Disney had the best joke, pun, wise-crackin' writers in the business and every word and visual is intentional. You have to watch it quite a few times and freeze it to catch it all! Even though it's set in 1905, it was written in the 1954 and has a very modern look to it.

  • @doggletts

Actually this short is based on a story by Ellis Parker Butler, published 1905, so neither the title nor the story was concieved by Disney. It's just altered in a Disney manner to make it modern (at least at the time) compaired to the original story.

  • Thanks, that makes sense. I should have Googled it as I found the complete story and it's not even set in rhyme. Pigs is pigs and rules is rules!

  • love the backgrounds, but this is possibly the most lewd short and have to wonder what was walt disney thinking if and when he ok'd this short........

for char's tho.....love the red coat messeger....some how those leg moves look very famiier....oh well,,,,,,

see this is how to do a flash toon for todays audience...

get to the point and have somewhat appealing char's that confort and splash all over the place............upbeat music and fast pace.

  • lol nice dance when he is making the other part of the box

  • does anybody has this cartoon with Audio Latino? It's my favorite and I can't find it anywhere

Alguien tiene esta caricatura con la traduccion Latina? es mi favorita y no la encuentro por ningun lado.

  • This is one of my favorites--it's such an adorable cartoon!

  • 8:30 Is he having a stroke?! XD

  • Reminds me of Tribbles from Star Trek.

  • OMG I love this cartoon!!! It's been so long since I've seen it! Thank you for posting ^^

  • this is how the senate works!! lol

  • @muiere2 If the government functioned to jaunty Irish jigs it would be a lot more fun to watch

  • what is the song called in 2:40 to 2:47 ?

  • Bring back 2D !!!!!

  • what kind of animation is this?!!!!

  • awesome kind

  • @goodstuffbunny A type that does not use ink, but instead paints the penciled drawings directly.

  • Hahaha they remind me of the Tribbles from Star Trek XD

  • Disney sure used to be cool

  • I KNOW RIGHT!

  • @RemCycleDN Yeah, but "The Princess and the Frog" brought back its coolness!

  • The AoStH Pilot Narrator makes his first appearance!

  • ah look, its Jim Carry

  • hahaha sexual innuendo

  • bull

  • Thank you for posting this!!!

  • The reactions in this are hilarious! 9:02 stills manages to crack me up. Poor Flannery... XD

  • Even in 1905 that 4 cent descrepince would brake the bank.

  • lol I love how the one guinea pig raises its eyebrows to the other. It's baby-makin time!!!

  • One of my favorite Disney shorts. Beautiful design.

It's like a really good childrens book, animated.

  • Can anyone tell me where I can find music from this cartoon? Or maybe what's the name of song from 6:36?

  • the song at 6:36 is called the Irish washer woman

  • The over-complicated bureaucracy of the corporation reminds me of the Coen Brothers' "Hudsucker Proxy", especially the boardroom meeting with the elderly gent with the listening horn in his ear. Wonder if they saw this before making it?

  • The cartoon is based on the short story of the same name, which is available from Project Gutenberg. There are a few changes; the most obvious is that the original story is not a poem.

  • "And don't forget to smile." *Grrrin*

  • This is Disney's Trouble with Tribbles.

  • i think the Star Trek writers got the idea from this short

  • David Gerrold, who wrote Trouble with Tribbles, says that he was channeling "The Rolling Stones," a story by Robert Heinlein, in which some Martian Flat Cats got a bit out of hand at one point. Nothing to do with this story.

  • Of course, but still, cool coincidince

  • Really...I heard that it was an homage to this story.

  • There's a slight audio sync problem in this upload, but it's still enjoyable.

  • soooo cute

  • The song is the Irish Washerwoman, so I'm pretty sure Irish-jig is spot on.

  • So what reproduces faster, bureaucracy or cavies?

  • Silly Question....! Bureacracy of course!

  • I love guinea pigs so much! All of the ones in this cartoon short are sooo adorable. Awesome cartoon!

  • Gotta be the best cartoon ever.

  • irish jig?? thats scottish mate..

  • I've seen this cartoon when I was a kid and we had it on tape. I loved it because I've had guinea pigs since I was 4 years old, so I love this cartoon!

  • ha ha pigs izzzz pigs :D damn this is old 1954 ._. gotta luv disney

  • I havn't seen that before: what cute guinea pigs! ^_^

  • Man! I remember watching this as a kid and laughing really hard!

  • 1:51 ,funny

  • good cartoon. Tells much about the weakness of bureaucracy

  • Hahaha, this is such an Awesome cartoon!

  • i own the book for this.

  • Now I know where g.r. got the idea for the star trek episode about tribbles

  • I had this on a tape when I was little! It was one of my very favorites! Thank you so much for posting, I haven't seen it in years!

  • poor guinea pigs

  • Very cute :3

Guinea pigs have a habit of multiplying - I have more than 20 of the little buggers now! (love every one of 'em) I started off with one :O

  • You had to have two to make more; they don't produce asexually. =P

  • The first one must have been pregnant when ArktosDelphi got her. I had that happen once.

  • does anyone knows how is this movie called in spanish? or where to find it?

Alguien sabe cómo se llama esta película en español? o dónde la puedo encontrar?

  • Encontar nombres de cortos en Español es muy, pero que muy muy complicado.

  • "You've begat, and begat, now, BEGONE!"

  • Huh, it's amazing how much social commentary they managed to fit into this little short. Basically, like several of the Golden Age Disney cartoons, this is a satire of sorts. It pokes fun at those who set rules to every aspect of life and feel the need to validate every action with said rules even if a situation could be determined with common sense. It also makes fun of the absurdly roundabout state of affairs in most beuracracies. But I'm sure you good people knew that. ^_^

  • Cavia porcellus is the guinea pig species.

A guinea pig belongs to the same family as chinchillas, capybaras, agoutis, and... porcupines.

Rabbits' front teeth grow but technically they are not rodents, they belong to an order of mammals called "lagomorpha."

  • The Spanish called them "conejillos de indias," or "little indian bunnies."

I think that is a more fitting name, they reproduce like rabbits. So cute though.

  • This has a lot of meaning for my family. My Mom's father loved it. Then I saw it. It passed through generations. <3

  • Aww, I loved this one!!

  • CLASSIC DISNEY!!!

It's been a while since I've seen an old cartoon this good :]

  • I have two guinea pigs---both male, luckily!! I love this cartoon, it reminds me of them.

  • the pigs are soo cute!

  • Ahahha. The same happend to me with my hamsters :D

  • this episode would want a person want to say...DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN

  • This cartton could be a good advertise about the danger of hungry on Africa. Due superpopulation... Due super-natality !!!

  • no it's based off of a short story about a silly man who was a slave to rules and who just needed common sense to figure out the problem for himself

  • i love the originals, they were the best, i am trying to track all the shorts he did before he died. there are so many!

  • i loved this as a kid and i still love watching this

  • XD Crazy Little Guinea Pigs!

  • 8:29 "The president shouted until he was hoarse!" That's my favorite scene! LOL

  • I had something very similar happen to me but with hamsters.

  • The scary part is that this is REALLY how bureaucrats work. Even worse is that the fucking morons think this to be EFFICIENT.

  • Wow been tryin to find this for ages, Good show old chaps!

  • LOL

Some things just never seem to change......

  • DTV Disney

    bits

I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Gladys Knight & The Pips

  • The look of the guinea pigs remind me of Winnie the Pooh for some reason. Also, I love the way it shows the slow and needlessly complicated process of bureaucracy.

  • I have guinea pigs, this is hilarious!

  • this is the government to a t! i can see bush making a statement aboout this topic " pig's is ahh...pig's. thay oink,...and like dirt"

  • Tribbles is tribbles.

  • i <3 the hobos and the first two guinea pigs!!! :)

  • The style in this cartoon is being ripped off to this day (not that it's a bad thing - though only Foster's seems to have pulled it off well).

I love this short. I always use it in my defense of Disney when idiots ramble on about how there aren't any adult themes in their cartoons.

  • Dallas McKennon did the voices of the Irish railway clerk Flannery as well as the New owner of McMorehouse home.

  • No, that was Bill Thompson as Flannery. I would recognize his White Rabbit voice anydangwhere.

  • this is SCOTTISH jig music... not Irish

  • I kno it by the name 'irish washerwoman' which kinda implies irish for me

  • Brilliant. I loved the book, but this was even more impressive.

  • always bill thompson when he plays as all various cartoons!!

  • Can you get this on DVD?

  • Yes. It is one of the Walt Disney Treasures.

  • "good mornin to you, says section 2, and dont forget to smile!"

    1:50

    ROFL!!!

  • "Morning it was I'll have you knoooow I've been standin' here a while!" LOL.

  • "I'm supposed to say, 'I'm sorry sir,' As it says in section 3."

  • "Dry your tears, and save your sneers, have you not some pets for me!"

  • "Indeed I have. Two guinea pigs. See 'pigs', page 43.

Accordin' to the Book of Rules, your pets are pigs, ya see."

  • "Pigs forty eight cents, pets forty four. WHAT!!! Guinea pigs ain't pigs they're pets! And I'm paying forty four!!!!"

  • Pigs is PIGS at 48, and RULES IS RULES once more!

  • Alas the old days of Disney.

    It's got meaning my friends.

  • AHHH some much bureacritic red tape!

  • They're worse than tribbles!

  • OMG!!!! I've been trying to remember this vid! Thanks for posting it and bring back awesome memories!

  • GO GUINEA PIGS...THERE SO CUTE

  • Now this brings back memories! I have a question though: I remeber from my childhood some cartoon documentaries with the park ranger and Ludwig von Drake. Does anybody know where these are?

  • the pigs are soo cute!

  • Finally! I've been looking for this cartoon on YouTube before, and now somebody finally put it up! Thank you!

  • LOL!!! Oh my god!!! They like EXPLODE out of the building!!!

I have three guinea pigs of my own! My family used to breed them so I can relate. XD

I love this! I never knew it existed until now!! I watched tons of old Disney cartoons when I was little. Too bad I missed this one. :)

  • lol... your silly >WO

    Guinea pigs.. zeeyy bess everryyywneerreee

    thanks for showing me! XD

  • Irish jigging guinea piggies!!! 8D

    XD Yer welcome!

  • my sis is trying 2 breed our guinea pigs s i can sorta relate lol

  • Thank you so much for putting this on U tube! This has to be one of my all time favorites along with Lambert the Sheepish Lion.

  • A gal pal of mine had a guinea pig that had 13 children through THREE DIFFERENT FEMALES! THERE in itself is proof of their rapid reproduction.

  • I love this cartoon! Nothing beats Irish jig music with funny lyrics.

  • This is one of my all-time favorite Disney cartoons. It's so much fun to watch, and the animation style is very unique, too.

  • classic

  • Reminds me of the part in Alice in Wonderland with the oysters, and I'm not sure why.

  • It's probably because Bill Thompson, the actor who did the voice of Flannery in this short, also did the voice of the White Rabbit. :^) (And Mr. Smee, and Droopy....)

  • He also did the voice of the Dodo.

  • WOW I was looking for this cartoon for many years!!!!

  • proof positive that Disney had a wicked sense of humour...and wasnt as cutsie poo as everyone thinks!!

  • lol guinea pigs don't multiply that fast

  • I don't know I used to work at a pets store.

  • i have 4 guinea pigs and 1s pregnant so i know... it takes them 2 1/2 months or so 4 the babies 2 grow

  • lol i never heard of this cartoon til yesterday

  • Thank you so much my sister and I both loved this cartoon.
