I know UP still uses SP cabooses, I've seen 2, but actually the last long distance train ran on the SP with a caboose was in 1994, ATSF stopped using cabooses in 1990.
Interesting: I don't recall seeing any cabooses on Long Distant SP trains from me videos from 1990 -1994 and when I went to Cajon Pass or Tehachapi none of the SP trains had cabooses that I can recall seeing.
In the Trains magazine video SP in the Cascade's none of the trains had a caboose. I find this surprising. Do you have any photos or videos of SP trains during that time period you are talking about with a caboose at the rear?

I know that but, SP didn't get rid of cabooses until 1994, so this suprises me.

SP stopped using Cabooses back in 1990 on Mainline trains. But 1994 maybe for Locals and UP still has SP Bay Window's for use on Locals today.

I especially enjoy listening to them when they are way off and getting closer. Tehachapi is another good spot for that.
