i'm sick of these idiots calling cavett "square". what did they expect, cavett to be as outrageous and artsy as bowie? of course, next to 70s bowie anyone would look a bit plain and square. dick cavett was a mature, responsible host of a widley viewed show. he has to present himself in that kind of fashion. i actually think for a serious, grown up kind of host he could be very hip. he could keep up with hendrix, lennon, and bowie to name a few.

Bowie looks absolutely amazing and I find even his coke-induced twitchiness fascinating. I am trying to imagine being Dick Cavett, who must have been a bit nervous to begin with about having what people felt was a weird space alien openly bisexual dude on his show, only to have him be all screwy and figity like this- it only must have reinforced people's perception of him as a freak/alien, though an absolutely lovely one.
