I do hope those smart men lobbying to dump the Stryker for the Gavin get their way. I've met too many sergeants who've lost friends to crappy Stryker vehicles. One sergeant had been in a convoy, took an IED to his Stryker, and got a 4-inch razor of shrapnel to his plates. It cut right through the plate and sliced open his abdominal wall. He still has to wear the plate in his stomach to keep himself together.

In Nam, 113s had 76mm guns on some of them. I drove 113s in the NG and liked them, very reliable, easy to drive, simple to fix and float. Don't like new IFVs.

If a column of tanks a mile long were thundering down your street (you can easily hear the sounds of gunfire and explosions coming from a mile away), would you be out and driving around? It wasn't like the entire city didn't know we were coming.

On several occassions we warned cities and even enemy units before entering a town, that if they wanted to live, it'd be good for them to stay inside.

We issue similar warnings before clearing insurgent occupied buildings.

I drove an M113 in the army, even that is more tank driving than driving one of those modern tanks, which are like cars with armor. In the M113 you can feel the vehicle and it is not damped through servos and hydraulics.

The M113 would be even more effective with gun turrets for better crew/gunner protection. Conversion kits are available for relatively low cost.
