Osiris, Isis, and Horus were simply three divinities in the pantheon who were closely related by marriage and blood (not surprising, since the Ennead itself was an extended family) and who figured in the same myth cycle. They did not represent the three persons of a single divine being (the Christian understanding of the Trinity). The claim of an Egyptian trinity is simply wrong.
According to the Ikhernofret Stela (2000BC), Osiris' Death and Resurrection was celebrated in a 5 day festival known as the "Passion Plays". He is entombed on the 2nd day, and remains so until the 4th day (3 DAYS). Afterwards -- on the 5th day -- he is reborn AT DAWN.
This is why Horus represented the sun's *rising* position, whereas Osiris represented the sun's *setting* position; Horus is symbolic of Osiris' rebirth/ resurrection AT DAWN.

@MaetelUsa And christmas IS christian. It's a christian tradition based on the the 3 day death of the sun at the time of winter solstice. The texts doesn't have to say "dec 25", just like it doesn't say that in the pagan texts, nor does jesus have to necessarily have to be born on that date in the story. As long as the Dec 25th symbolism is in the bible (i.e 3 day death, virgin birth, southern cross, star in the east) jesus' symbolic birth date is Dec25th...afterall, he is the sun resurrected.

The pharoahs, who were Horus in the flesh (sons of god) were anointed with messeh. Hence, the son of god in christianity is a "messiah".

The egyptians deified the sun as three different gods --Osiris, the Father, Horus, the Son, and Ra, the Highest Sun -- each corresponding to at least one of it's 3 key positions throughout the day. Osiris represented the *setting* sun, and is reborn as Horus the *rising* sun.
Ra, who alone represented the *mid-day* sun, completes the trinity as "Ra-Horakty" (translates to "Ra who is Horus of the Two Horizons") the conflation of all three gods and postions of the sun.

@teched246 This is not true. The Egyptians had an Ennead—a pantheon of nine major gods and goddesses. Osiris, Isis, and Horus were simply three divinities in the pantheon who were closely related by marriage and blood (not surprising, since the Ennead itself was an extended family) and who figured in the same myth cycle. They did not represent the three persons of a single divine being (the Christian understanding of the Trinity). The claim of an Egyptian trinity is simply wrong.

According to the Ikhernofret Stela (2000BC), Osiris' Death and Resurrection was celebrated in a 5 day festival known as the "Passion Plays". He is entombed on the 2nd day, and remains so until the 4th day (3 DAYS). Afterwards -- on the 5th day -- he is reborn AT DAWN.
This is why Horus represented the sun's *rising* position, whereas Osiris represented the sun's *setting* position; Horus is symbolic of Osiris' rebirth/ resurrection AT DAWN.

It states that they endured aeons of "TAPASYA" or "MORTIFICATION" (no sex or material enjoyments -- extreme self-discipline). Furthermore, the reason they could not give birth to Krishna in their PAST LIVES was due to having sex just once (gramya-dharma or gramya-bhogan). "The nurse fo the universe, Jaggadhatri, thus enjoined by the god of gods, CONVEYED SIX SEVERAL EMBRYOS into the womb of Devaki, and the SEVENTH ONE, after a season into Rohini's womb."
None of Devaki's children were concieved through sex.

@teched246 In reply to your first comment (Hinduism: Virgin Mother), your quote and in fact the entire Srimad Bhagavatam (aka Bhagavata Purana) are dated between 500CE and 1000CE (AD). If you do not believe me then please look it up on Wikipedia (It holds sources to prove all of my claims for this comment. By the way, I am not actually Christian trying to defend my faith or anything, I'm actually Agnostic, only I double check things even when they support my beliefs.

the thing is that maybe all these "coincidences" coincide perhaps with Roman Catholicism which is not the true church and hides lots of paganism within true Christianity..in fact it may be the "Whore of Babylon" in the Bible. 3 important things to note:
1. There are possible sources, and so arguments, for & against a thesis like Zeitgeist's of many human spiritual leaders loosely following 1 clear model. You can easily argue for or against. So if either, for or against, feels right to someone, they could adapt a "historical argument".
2. There are genuine sources for much of what Joseph says in his "god person model" thesis, which hold up to historical scrutiny well, even against other suggested evidence.

In the end, much (certainly enough) of what P. Joseph's Zeitgeist film says can be claimed to be possible, and not disproved.
Importantly the spirit of most of what it says is very likely to be right: similarities between god / god part / god family member / chosen one historical figures often are true. And, it's probably very important to be aware of that & what it could mean (another planet of considering!).
3. Unfortunately, P. Joseph's grasp vanishes at the end.

The final part of P. Joseph's "god-figure model" thesis in 'Zeitgeist' dies in the realms of rationality & historical investigation. There is no evidence or suggestion that can point to either (A) that there was no person called Jesus of Nazareth (most historians accept there was) or (B) the man Jesus could not have been either The or A 'Son of God' (or a 'Sun God' for that matter) - whether or not there are many god figures reasonably adhering to a loose model.

...It makes no sense that P. Joseph lost his mind when coming to conclude & judge. But what went before that is serious & historically considerable, and shouldn't be forgotten.
One thing is - nothing to do with Zeitgeist film- I can't understand the debates about whether Jesus (and even the rest of the historical figures considered) is distinctly a / the "Son of God" - or not that but a / the "Sun God". They surely mean the same thing, or something so similar. (I'll expand in a while)

@TENNSUMITSUMA Absolutely, nobody gets a free pass. All information has to be posted in a science journal and put up for peer review. Otherwise anybody can say anything and pass it off as fact. This is the process by which science sorts science from garbage. The fact that I found links to religion all over his web sites, indicated that Elliot probably was getting his info from places that weren’t posted in science journals or peer reviewed and therefore has to be considered garbage.

@TENNSUMITSUMA Zeitgeist has a 220 page source guide, which I am currently reading to determine the validity of it. I recommend everyone be skeptical of sources. You may also want to watch youtube National Geographics:Egyptian Secrets of the Afterworld. Zahi Hawass's background seems pretty credible.

1 science journals and peer review mean nothing. why cause there are an increased number of people coming out saying that people in the 'scientific community' are manipulated (usually paid off) to say false things or suppress some things in line with what the source f their funding dictate. just ask mike ruppert.
