@BrokenBassBin Fair use means the person using someone else's work is profiting. It would be wrong for someone to download say, Metallica MP3s, then charge others to download them off their server. But it wouldn't be wrong to use those MP3s as background music in a YouTube video.

As for lone artists, I don't think most people would use their stuff without permission. It's just the big, faceless entertainment industry we hate.
