@troy2062 Hey Anytime! I really wish the networks would bring back Star Trek to Television... Gene Rodenberry's vision really set a Positive Tone for the world. Its a shame he isn't around to see the internet age, iPad's (PADD), and iPhones.
The starfield consists of several PCloud arrays in 3DS Max. I chose this over After Effects, as I could easily re-render different camera angles or change the seed for unique starfields.
Great job. How is it that fans can do this stuff, and get it so right..... but Hollywood with an infinite supply of money, always seems to fall just short? LOL. We all know who "should" be making these movies. Again, excellent job.
I use Max's trajectory system. Essentially, you position the mesh at the starting point, move the frame slider to the frame on which you would like all animation of the object to be completed, and from there modify the straight animation to become what you need. On certain occasions, it is also easier to use a spline path, but both of these methods allow you to create completely smooth animation.
And thanks for the inspiration! Now I know what my next tutorial will be about :).
btw. Have you tried a bit of overclocking? In one of my other PCs, I've got a 2.4GHz P4. That CPU reaches an overclock of 3.60GHz with ease, and with no volt increases.
Actually no, I haven't tried overclocking, but now that I see it looks exciting. What I do know is theres a lot of voltage stuff there... is it possible to do it from a software tool within the computer?
And my CPU generates a lot of heat - I find that often the one rear fan and CPU main fan in place go full blast very often now....
Overclocking via the OS can be very difficult, and results unpredictable. The BIOS is the best choice for this task.
If you download an application called "RealTemp", you can find out the temperature of the CPU. It may not be quite as hot as it seems. If it does not go above 58*C or so, you have plenty of overclocking room.
Of course, network rendering is a more practical method of getting better render times. More CPUs working on the render, whether fast or slow will have a huge impact.
I use EVEREST to see temps from my mobo's sensor and yes, the temperature does go above 58 degrees a lot - when it goes above... 67 or something the fans go full blast and cool the CPU down to a save temperature where they turn off.
it normally averages at around 57 degrees... i've been talking with my dad though we might instal a new heatsink/fan and improve the one chassis fan, as well as install a PCI fan for my passive vidcard and maybe some memory heat spreaders.. Might cost a bit but if it improves performance it's a go
Nice Job!

You should try remaking this, with MadMan's new Version 6 Enterprise.

did you use a particle system in after effects to make the stars fly?

@troy2062 Cool. I figured out how to do it in After Effects

Looks awesome, though you should've used the music used at the end of the movie. I tried it out with your vid in vegas and sounds pretty cool :)

Just a sugestion. If your gonna use the alternate reality Enterprise you should have used Chris pines voice instead.
He says the famous line in the bloopers on the DVD.
Kingrex16 1 year ago
Actually, with a little modification (ie, extended, Chris Pine doing the classic speech) this would be a good way for Star Trek XII to start.

One minor flaw here. You forgot to post DeForest Kelley's name up in the vid

@Bartman954
The season 1 intro didn't show DeForest Kelley. ;)

@pvtawol Because Hollywood doesn't give a fuck. Their interest is making money not pleasing fans.

Perhaps credit should be given to the creator of the original Trek XI Bridge Commander mod.

You are absolutely right. I will contact Chris and get the original creator's name :).

In any case, looks good! :)

How do you get your animation in terms of the ships turning, etc. so smooth?

ok, thanks.

I was also kinda hoping the animation would be...closer to the original, if that won't burden you much

Nice job, buyt U meant for you to use the STXI cast, Pine, Quinto, etc.
Other than that, it's pretty neat

I can't believe I forgot about that!
I will add a video response later with the new cast names ;).
troy2062 2 years ago
Nicely done, esp. the ship movement!
Also, tell me something: Does HD rendering work fast for you?
If so what are your PC specs =P
deltanalliance 2 years ago
Thx :).
It renders very quickly. I just can't stand rendering at anything less than 720p, lol. xD
My primary PC specs are on the channel, but the network comprises about 10 nodes of 2GHz - 3GHz dual cores.
troy2062 2 years ago
GAWDDAMN.
I want your computer. xD
so you use a network rendering setup? I need to set that up for 3DS MAX and Sony Vegas, but I really don't know how...
deltanalliance 2 years ago
I'm stuck with a single core/HT, P4 2.8GHz... a 3450 card... old DDR-400 RAM... my computer is shieet =(
deltanalliance 2 years ago
Yes, render-farming really cuts down on time.
And thanks for the inspiration! Now I know what my next tutorial will be about :).
btw. Have you tried a bit of overclocking? In one of my other PCs, I've got a 2.4GHz P4. That CPU reaches an overclock of 3.60GHz with ease, and with no volt increases.
It might be worth looking into that possibility.

If you're running the stock cooler, an aftermarket upgrade will result in a massive decrease in temperatures.
Heatsink fans should generally be kept at full speed if one is intent on runnning under load constantly or
overclocking. Might be a bit louder, but also a lot cooler. ^^
troy2062 2 years ago
thanks - I'll look at new heatsinks and other cooling items at NCIX ASAP.
