@ Shanghaijill Hey Shanghaijill, I just heard that Tommy Ardolino died. Like, yesterday. Tragic news. What was he like in high school? Was that in Springfield?
Believe it or not this song was written by Chuck Barris. Yes the same guy who did the Gong show, and the Dating Game, and the Newlywed Game, and the main character in Confessions of a dangerous mind.
There was an amusement park called POP ( Pacific Ocean Park ) in Santa Monica Ca. at the tip of the ocean in the 60's, when this song was out. The song blended in so well w the atmosphere. I wish I could go into the Twilight Zone and re-live it. Thanks Freddy, for your contribution. Your fan.
Im 62 yrs old and was right in the middlle of all this great music. I wouldn't change for anything. What I really like is when someone at 14 and 16 say there lisning to this. Its like me really likeing music back in the 30's and 40's.
I bet the girl at 1:15 minutes of this tape never realized that one day she would be seen by thousands of viewers on computers. Does anyone recognize her? Be interesting to know who she was and where she came from.
Calabrese's shortsighted greed has continued to this day. The only park left in Cliffside is half monopolized by the leasing center for a condo that was never built. Also, an urban revitalization project failed, leaving a 2-block vacant pit in the middle of downtown. They blasted away the Palisades cliffs themselves. For, you guessed it, condos. Thomas Wolfe wrote "You can't go home again." Cliffside natives literally cannot go home again. It's not there. RIP CP
We were the band for one night for Fred back in the late sixties...had to learn 6 of his songs in two hours...we were just kids...he was quite the jerk!!
I remember Palisades Park from my schoolkid days. There were coupons on the back of Superman DC comics for rides at PP. Many years later, in the mid 1980s, I worked with someone who lived in a high rise that stood on the Park's grounds. Standing out on his balcony, I could still hear the roller coaster and the screams!
50 some years later and this song STILL rocks! Saw Freddie at an oldies show in 1993 in Denver. Among the 4 acts, Freddie's was the strongest set by far.
@daftpunkforeternity do yourself a favor and never follow billboards or top 10.. and dig your eyes out and shove pencils in your ear if you ever are to watch a music award thing. youll develop much better taste not going with the shit corporate conglomarte shitstinkfest of filth they call 'music' on the charts. also... look into NiN and stay far far away from new school... anything
I was born in the 80's, but I've always loved old music like this. I heard this on our oldies station when I was...oh, maybe twelve. And I've loved it ever since. Amazing song!
@Reycied Same here. Born 1988 and grew up with the oldies. Thanks a million to my uncle Harv (may he rest in peace) and my old man for playing the greats!!!
I can taste the cotton candy now. Only pink in the sixties, now there is even blue cotton candy. Every color of the rainbow and each color tastes just like it should -- example given -- blue tastes BLUE!
Today's music and pop culture (or lack thereof) is complete garbage, however saying that ALL the kids of today have no taste is rather foolish. On a much lighter note, what a fantastic song by Mr. Boom-Boom himself....the Ramones did an amazing cover of this too!
No you'll never know how great a kiss can feel when you stop on the top of a ferris wheel"
This is one of the best of all times. What fun. As a child from the 60's. I remember going to Palisades Park in New Jersey every summer. It was sure a fun place to be and us kids back then never tired of the place. It was magical to place to us...too bad they tore it down. This song keeps the place alive and somehow I'm back and living the moment vicariously.
Something has come to light about Pallisades Park. Some NYC Facebook friends say it's not a park at all. This song created so many images in my head of a fun park when I was a pre teen that it's heart breaking to find this out. Getting out my brain eraser.
Pallisades Park was indeed an amusement park. It was torn down sometime in the late 1960's or early 1970's in favor of high rise condos. It was located near Englewood NJ off Route 4 near the GW bridge.

As a child from the 50's & 60's. I remember going to Palisades Park in New Jersey every summer. It was sure a fun place to be and us kids back then never tired of the place. It was magical to place to us...too bad they tore it down. This song keeps the place alive and somehow I'm back and living the moment vicariously.
@54nomore I remember Palisades Park too. Only thing you got wrong was this: Palisades was not really torn down, it burned down, I remember watching from the docks of the west side of Manhattan that night, a fire that lasted a couple of days. I was devastated. I thought that they would rebuild but they never did. Then they tore it down and instead of going there, we started going to Coney Island. Now this was before the projects there became dangerous and people stopped going because of crime.
@imweezel411 Palisades Park was torn down. There were two big fires, but those happened long before it closed (1971). There were to main reasons for the closing: The owner of the park was in his 70's and had no heirs to run the park. Also, it becames so popular that the towns it was on (Fort Lee and Cliffside Park) had developed near gridlock traffic conditions and random park visitors were taking up parking spaces on residential streets. The land was rezoned and high rises were built on the land
@JackHaynes30 I don't know where your information came from but it's not true. Greed certainly doomed the Park, but not fire. The park burned several times in it's almost 100 years and was always rebuilt bigger and better. By 1971 Irving Rosenthal was getting old and wanted out of the business. The locals complained about the traffic and Cliffside Park's scumbag mayor Gerry Calabrese wanted tax revenue so the land was re-zoned for condos.
you can tell that the intro was added later on to the ending...and this was inspired by Dick Clark and done at the studio by Frank Slay before he sent it to the pressing plant. Similar thing with Janis Martins 'Bang Bang"....the drums at the end are from another session and spliced into the master.....
I know this song is from 1962, but the video (the styles of the guys and especially the girls-this video, looks quite a bit more modern than that-one girl looked like the late 1960's/actually a late 1960's look?? But, this is amother good one by Freddie Cannon

freddie looks like a jew... or a greaseball guinea from brooklyn..wither way..same thing....i bet if this stooge is still alive..if you give him 50 bucks he'll sing this shit for you...guaranteed....probably an old jew living in miami beach now...eating a bagle and remembering the good old days when he had one hit song...got paid peanuts for it...and could get a boner.
freddy made peanuts from this shlock...and you know how i know...i saw a photo of freddy and his wife with elvis..and freddys wife looked like yogi berra with tits...
@switcherx Another little known fact is that Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon made the majority of his own clothes. (As did our old neighbor Mel Carter who sang Hold me, thrill, Never let me go.)
I'm from the midwest never got the pleasure to go to Palisades park, but I heard it was awesome for the young at heart. this is one great song in tribute to the place.

freddie looks like a jew... or a greaseball guinea from brooklyn..wither way..same thing....i bet if this stooge is still alive..if you give him 50 bucks he'll sing this shit for you...guaranteed....probably an old jew living in miami beach now...eating a bagle and remembering the good old days when he had one hit song...got paid peanuts for it...and could get a boner.

Little known fact, this was written by Chuck Barris who was host of the Gong Show in the 70s... wish the sound quality was better

We danced around with the hot dog man" xD lolz
