To Rampking: F-4 phantom out of Iwakuni (USMC). Low fuel emergency, landing at home field. About 3/4 mile from touch down, fuel level so low that engines began to surge. Both crew eject at about 1/2 mile out. The blast of the 2 ejection seats caused the nose to drop momentarily. This caused enough "slosh" to allow the fuel pumps to get a few more gallons out of tank 9. Engines briefly spool back up before shut down. Just enough to carry the jet to to perfect landing and roll out without crew
JM: Sorry, I don't believe this incident for a minute. The F-15 has no leading edge devices....no slats. Which means that the shape of the wing produces lift all by itself without help from leading edge devices. If one wing were to be sheared off, then the other wing would put the aircraft in a continuous roll due to all the lift being produced on one side. The landing gear on the F-15 are weak, especially the nose. No F-15 ever landed at 250 knots without so much as a blown tire.
@JetMechMA Just to clear the air , Israel is the enemy of my enemy...that is all.
What you are ommitting is that the area between the engines on the F-15 adds considerable lift to the aircraft, it still had power in both engines and although it landed too fast....was extremely light in weight due to fuel loss and the missing aircraft part.
Like that UA DC-10 that blew it's hydraulics and #2 engine yet was still able to crash land, the experts are still shaking their heads.
Peace and blessings of Allah be upon Muhammed and Jesus and upon all the prophets of God.
"Aerodynamics is God's creation, and he does with it what he wants." Yes is true, but "to lie" is not God°s creation, its the human°s arrogance and selfish.
Planes need wing's to fly right . This we know . The wing's provide lift , the engines thrust and so on . If you do the math on the F-15 you'll find that if you go fast enough the body of the aircraft actually provides enough lift to fly on just one wing ! I know it sounds lke crap but then they ran it in a sim and it worked .
The faster he went the more control he gained right ? He kept his speed up giveing him more lift ALLOWING him to have enough control to land and walk away from it . You get an F-15 going fast enough and the body of it act's like a big ass wing .
Thrust + speed +lift = control !
And you call you self a pilot ? All these thing's came togather to give him control only after he went faster and gained more lift !
You need to understand that its not lift, its deflection. Don't discredit me, when you have no idea about flying myself. Notice when the aircraft was flaring out it kept dipping to the right, as there was more lift being produced from the remaining wing as the angle of attack was increasing. This is why I said that there was an issue with control authority.
this seems impossible (my judgement on avionics and aircraft design tell me so). im no sure if i should believe this, even if he kept a high speed then the side without a ing would have considerably less lift and it would roll.
Giv'r shit then dude, so can everyone, you just chose to word that in an obviously ridiculous way then i guess. Built Chevy Tough just sounds wrong the second you think it.
If he would have tried to slow down at landing, he would defenately crash because the lift on the left wing would tip the plane over to the right...But nice landing tho... Dno if its true or not...not sure, what can i say:americans....
First of all i'm canadian and i strongly dislike french people and americans. I was recently at CFB Cold lake in Alberta Canada during maple flag(if you aren't smart enough to know what that is its basically a military competition) While i was there i was told some of the marks of different countries airforces. The French by far had the highest scores of all with Swiss second U.S. third and Canada fourth.
Massive respect for the pilot, not to mention those who designed and built such an incredible plane. I'd have never believed that this plane could fly at all with this level of damage, let alone under sufficient control to land in one piece. Awesome.
ive herd you have better luck in becoming a fighter pilot in israel than in the U.S. and by the way ive herd the israeii's are better at tactics... any feedback??
To become an Israeli fighter pilot is most definitely harder than to become one in the US. Israel starts with a candidate pool in the thousands (I think it was 4000) just to find 1 pilot. I know 1 soldier who made it to the top 12 before being cut and he would most definitely have made it through the US fighter pipeline. In the US a good ROTC cadet (who passes the physical requirements) is all but guaranteed a flight slot.
that is true to some degree!!! the training program in Israel is not as strenuous a little bit but the u.s pilots have the upper hand in dogfighting tactics whereas the isrealis do do ground attack better. hope that answers your question!!!!
As it turns out the lift profile over the body of the F15 (less the wing section) generates enough lift to counter gravity at higher speed. When the pilot sped up he actually created a 'wing' out of the body of the aircraft. Lucky!
He's part of a right-wing group BOOM!

This rivals the story of an F-4 Phantom taking off again while attempting a belly landing.
It happened in Vietnam during the war but I forgot the Air base and the year.
Perhaps someone can refresh my memory?
What is it in this video that has so many talking garbage here?
The IAF should send this aircraft back to MD with a thank you...simply amazing.

Thrust + Speed + lift = Control? Wtf lol.
Lift doesnt equal control. The unbalanced distribution of LIFT is what can cause an aircraft to lose control in that situation. You dont make sense.

If you know just a little bit from the aerodynamic rules you will understand that this is a bulshit, We are not stupit to believe in this.
The Aircraft must roll bacause of the difference of the pressure.
