  • I have pioneer 12" sub wooofer speakers I just received my refoaming kit is it better to glue the ring behind the cone or on top? originally the ring went behind the cone but the ring fits perfect as well laying on top of the cone, anyone know what is better? I just do not want to start scrapping away much of the old foam ring so it does not damage the cone itself,

  • where do you live, eh? I'm canadian too... wonder if we live close to each other, I need some speaker repair too!

  • hay i have the same sub as you but i put the faom on wrong and its hissing :( due to puting it on wrong helpp i love theys speakers

  • Hey man, I have a pair of CERWIN VEGA E-312's and one of the woofers was poked a bit... your video has convinced me to fix them. Excellent presentation, and thanks!

    Blessings to you!

  • @8LLRoadranger hey Roadranger,we in the USA poke our women, not our woofers.

  • i don't like how this guy did the first one , i think shims were supposed to keep the alignment to avoid a voice coil rub issues after the new surround is applied .

  • Those are small magnets btw and i think the coil is used up just by looking at them and im pretty sure the magnets would need to B zapped. I would of put new drivers in the cabinets! I would have really pushed the customer to just save and buy new speakers, the new models are night and day from the old ones like that! I know you might think hey it's what i do im a repair shop but how will it make the shop look if repairs sound inferior, you could sell new drivers to keep the customer! jmo!!

  • @theantiredneck I thought that the strength of the magnet is a lot more important that the physical size?!

  • @theantiredneck I would say basically everything you're saying is totally wrong.. Those old ones are far superior to the new ones from CV. And the SPL/ metre is very high on these so size of magnet doesn't effect how good they sound or what sound pressure levels they're capable of. New CV's have shitty filters, plastic piece of thin boxes and last but not least way worse speakers when it comes to not only the woofers but also midrange and tweeter. And hey! you can't just put in other drivers

  • Those things are in very bad shape why would you redo the surround and not just re cone and second why re cone those things, they look like they lived outside! Did the customer say how they sounded after the repair?

  • @theantiredneck The exact driver doesn't exist any more I would have to buy second hand so a recone was also out of the question the customer wanted me to exhaust the cheapest option first...*shrugs* customers always right I guess.

  • thats why i dont buy foam surround woofers

  • Hi... Thanks for this great video and the advice to match. I'm wondering why you removed and replaced the dust cover?

  • @mikequeripel it came with them and the cones were stained it covered a lot of them.

  • does the speaker exchange thing supply soundlab dust caps?

  • How long should you let it dry?

  • Thanks a bunch for the video. I've watched it about 10+ times. So shims are not used inside the coil? Just paper cups from below? That part was confusing.

  • @nebu7777 I do not personally like exposing the coil for any length of time. That is why I prop it up from underneath. If you get dust or sand in the coil it sounds horrible so if you are exposing the voice coil try to get a dust cap swapped as fast as possible.

  • One thing that isn't mentioned is just how nasty Contact Cement is. I went and bought some and it didn't come in a tube like shown here. It came in a bottle with a brush. Well that stuff is NASTY. They said It's a $500 fine if you're caught with it. It has really bad fumes and also it dries instantly. I was caught off guard about the smell and fast drying (even with a mask) and slightly messed up my alignment of the phone. Hopefully it will still work.

  • hey i have two 10 inch that i am gona do the same procedure to them... from cv dx-3..

i think one of them might be burnt out i mean the voice coil ... can u post a video on how to fix/replace voice coil ?
