I watch Rob Johnson everyday before I go to high school, had no idea he had a brother with down syndrome. I stopped saying the word 'retarded' to mean stupid a while ago, and 'gay.' People are too ignorant these days, it's like their parents didn't teach them correctly.
OK does anyone think it's ridiculous that grown people walk around saying "n word" and "r word." It sounds like we're in 1st grade. These are just words people. Let's lighten up!
DarrinW2001 - He never said that the guy is stupid he said the use of the R-Word makes him sound stupid. As for the "Sticks and Stones Rhyme - it is a load of baloney!" Kids are killing themselves or killing other kids because of unkind words being flung around. I think unkind words are more harmful than sticks and stones or any weapon for that matter.

HOWEVER, it is NOW used as a hateful word against a race. The word "retard" is used against a group of people in a hateful way as well. Both are derogatory against things that people are born with and cannot help. They should BOTH be treated with contempt for the people that they hurt.
People will always call each other names... it is a fact of life. That people can let others affect them that way is the crime. Whatever happened to "Sticks and Stones can break my bones, but names will never hurt me"? I think calling someone "Stupid" for using the word "Retards" defeats the whole purpose of your argument. Stop using the "S" word! :)
@Darrinw2001 You're just as stupid as those who use the R-Word in place of the word stupid! Stupid and retarded are two different words and calling those who are not mentally handicapped "retarded" is just as ignorant as people who call a race of people derogatory names. Think before you speak!
@Darrinw2001 psychological studies have shown that name calling does affect the person's emotionally and intellectually. Besides if we had followed this example, we would not have censored/attempted to erase other words from being used in a derogative way; such as the N-word.

we don't use the N word anymore for the same reasons.
