im not sure exactly what it does, but mediums are just for adding to your paints to thin or thicken them, make them dry slower or faster, for glazing, make them shinier, duller, etc etc etc, there's tons of mediums out there. if your just starting out, use some basic odorless paint thinner or linseed oil. but the most important thing is keep your brushes clean on every stroke, don't let them get muddy gray.
sorry, i didn't see this question sooner, i am thinking about that, but my studio has a hotel/motel a/c in it and it's too noisy to record. when it cools down here in arizona for the winter and i don't have to run it, i certainly will.
