  • socialism, or democratic socialism can work in america. it just needs to be framed right. it'll be hard getting a platform with corporate media controlling everything.

the emphasis should be put on restoring "democracy". capitalism is nothing but a pyramid scheme, put in place by wealthy elites to keep everyone in their place.

  • This man got over a million votes for President, while he was in jail as a political prisoner...

  • Secular religion. Abstractions like humanity or "the people" become gods. Also, cost exists. burn all the cash in teh world and launch precious metals into space. You cannot remove costs from reality.

  • Eugene Debs: If he was president, America would be a much better place today.

  • Debs owns

  • Sounds great to me.

  • Well, if I had to choose between Eugene V. Debs Propaganda, Fox News, or some Republican's point a views- I'll take Debs!

  • I'm not a communist or Socialist,But John Reed would have been a better choice that Eugene Debs.

  • gulag just means "prison". The maximum prison sentence was 10 years, while in America it is 300 years, for some reason. In socialism there will be no poor, so there will be a crime decrease. Therefore there will be barely any need for prisons.

  • No one survive more than 10 year therefore crime down 40,000% comrade!

America only imprisons actual criminals (well, for the most part), not people guilty of political "crimes". Under socialism, everyone is poor, and survival becomes about being as corrupt as possible without getting caught.

  • Don't mix up the dictatorship of Stalin with socialism. Russia never had a Socialism.

As for there not being political prisoners in the United States, you may want to check again. I would suggest you start by looking up Eugene Debs, the guy this video was about. He was imprisoned for speaking out against the first World War.

  • @Praetonia -- In Amurika, all prisoners are political prisoners. I, too, once bought into the 'muricun corporate propaganda. Then the Army made the mistake of sending me to Germany, a country that figured out that both non-democratic socialism and non-democratic capitalism are equally repugnant. In general, the wealthiest citizens are grateful for their good fortune; paying taxes is regarded as patriotic. The top 1 percent are content with two or three homes. We have a fake democracy.

  • @MacLeamh I'm sure Germany does think that mindless obedience to the state is patriotic. But look where that got them!

  • @KoreanKol -- This is a utopian vision. The "blended" socialist-capitalist economies of Europe provide for more freedom than any American will ever enjoy, But to believe in a utopia where "there will be no poor," is wholly unfounded and reflects some rather infantile magical thinking. America's violent culture isn't caused by political ideology, nor can it be blamed on guns. We are the problem. Our culture values violence and ignorance is regarded as a virtue.

  • up with the socialists

  • got my vote

  • Today Ralph Nader & Matt Gonzalez are calling for a 30 hour work week, just like Debbs called for the 40 hour week, at 50 hours pay. Debbs created the weekend. Debbs won. Now Nader will win for you the 30 hour week Nader is on the ballot in 43 states. Is He on your ballot yet? Vote for Nader. Defeat the war monger Obama.

  • Capitalism also demoralizes and denigrates the masses. Socialism does work actually. The workforce is mobilized because they are represented and supported by the government in job protection and fair wages. The majority proletariat is treated more fairly. Democratic Socialism is much different than communism. The individual does retain the same liberties as in a capitalist democracy. Socialism does work; look at Great Britian, France, and Italy. They implore many socialist ideas.

  • I love the idea of socalism but it would never work in america everyone is to worried about themselves instead of all the people as a whole. but i think that alot of countries would benefit from it especially the third world countries because socialism is alot better at putting food into the mouths of its people than capitolism

  • Socialism here is more likely to help third world countries than if it were there. Capitalism is the problem, through and through. We force third world nations, generally through somewhat legal channels, to grow cash crops as opposed to sustinance crops so WE can benefit. Our country is a democratic joke that was never all that funny. WE are the rapers of the world and WE are the terrorists we claim to fight. Turn down the volume on Mother Cultures hum and start to lift the veil of deceit.

  • this is amazing! Eugene V. Debs has a great way of being a funny socialist footnote in most of the elections of the early 20th century and I'm glad someone has brought him into the 2008 election. I don't think American history would be what it is without Eugene V. Debs lurking in the corner. Fun video!!

  • i love it..."the working mans man" think socialism is more of a perfect ideology but in practice would never result in a very positive way for the country.

  • lol u guys, he is kidding, this is a joke video, not for real, i cant believe u think this is legit. debs was alive in the beginning of the 1900s

  • Socialism doesn't work because if everyone has the same amount of money and things, then there is no reason to work hard or do anything to better yourself. Capitalism supports euntropaneurs as well as inventers whom further themselves to become better and have a better life.

  • what a waste of my time....

socialists don't have the freedom capitalists do....so you would have a mediocre job but you couldn't say anything about it in public...

  • watch?v=8wM-oh-aym4

  • ...and then Woody Wilson put him in jail and the Socialists were CRUSHED.

  • wtf is this supposed to be?

  • z<<

  • Agreed, Debs in '08... again!

(That said, the Socialist Party USA candidate, Brian Moore, is probably the best bet amongst the living.)

  • Debs in 08! If he ran from prison, why not the grave? ;)
