You missed the point. Look more closely. The "trippy things" were there all along. But it only applied to *the other army.* When they switched helmets, they saw it applied to their own army.

For example, at around 1:23, the orange guy puts on the blue guy's helmet, and sees an orange guy sliced in two, but it appears with the helmet as a watermelon. When the blue guy wore that helmet, he would have killed the orange guy, thinking he was slicing a watermelon.

That was the significance of switching the helmets - that the trippy things applied to their own army instead of the other army. But the trippy things were there all along.

The point of this video is that armies are deceived into killing other people by the "helmets" they wear. The helmets are metaphors for propaganda and lies put forth by their governments.
