SALUDOS,,,,

  • @Maripudelmonaco GRACIAS POR TODO,VINCENZO.

  • excelente!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lovely but too slow......

  • 53-year-old Zerlina is almost just as cool :)

  • What a voice! Shame about the acting in this clip!

  • other "Don Giovannis" are mere "Giovannis"..

  • @SuperZorrolover

You are right. I love him.

  • Siepi is charming in every part. His voice is killing me.

  • @CeciliaLucretiaBadea siepi , is and was the best don ever!

  • amazing! i still think that bryn terfel is the best don giovanni but siepi is one of my favourites too!

  • man in tights <3

  • nice(berger , not siepi!.

  • Ahora ha muerto de verdad Don Giovanni. Requiem In Pace.

  • So slow! Good legs (on him). Although the voice is beautiful, I find it "swallowed"

and a tad difficult to listen to for long. Compare to Gobbi, who is altogether more

    alive and much less mannered.

  • siepi è morto il 5 luglio

  • R.I.P.

    Grazie Maestro!

  • RIP!

  • Siepi is wonderful, the best Giovanni ever, but Berger is definitely too old! She looks like his mother.

  • @Krawi6 was, not is.

  • It really surpirse me when i listen to the recording of "Die Forelle" when she was 57 years old...her voice is still pure like a young girl...her Zerlina is an excellent sample for this role.

  • Is there a commendatore scene with siepi on youtube?

  • She looks like a child next to him.

  • I have a quite similar timbre like Siepi and he´s so a good example for my studies; because I´m a german bass and italian singing I´m not THAT used to it, so its just great to see and hear him here on youtube:-)

  • Sublime Siepi Grazie .

  • Siepi = The Best. Legato, blow, distinction, homogeneity of the registers, irreproachable musical quality, the class!

  • unsurpassable...STELLAR!

  • This is completely ridiculous. Listen to those E naturals - let's be clear, F natural is the bass' "high C". Look elsewhere on youtube to hear Siepi's low low C. This man had as low and rich a voice as any bass, and to be able to sing those high notes so sweetly... I'm convinced he was making unholy sacrifices in the wings to be able to sing like that. Amazing.

Siepi - always good for making you feel like your technique sucks. :)

  • THis Zerlina is so cute and minute! One could not imagine a more perfect Zerlina. Vocally perfect too.

  • Erna Berger's Zerlina was an example for many other singers. Reri Grist , for instance, had a very similar voice and was also a wonderful Zerlina.

  • How does one pronounce his name I pronounce it as SEE EPPY or is it SEYE EPPI or SEEAPEE please tell me.

  • My vocal teacher says SEE EPPY, so I'm going with that

  • No.

    It's ['sjεpi] in IPA.

  • It's spoken "Sjepie", the e as in "the".

  • Almighty Bass!

  • How exquisite! Siepi at his Best.

  • Cesare siepi, is the best.

  • Hai ragione!

  • Cesare Siepi... his kingdom in "basses land" continues...!!! You're still de best!!!

  • I don't think so 'songbirdwatcher'. This is a true classic interpretation, which is still quite popular. There is more sweet sensualness in the duett this way, than if the performers would race through it, like if they were just making arrangements for a contemporary style 'quicky'. ☺

  • I am aslo used to quicker tempos in Don Giovanni. In the firt minutes, when listening this, I am disturbed but after that I find it wonderful. When used to this performance, I am disturbed in the first minutes when listening to quick tempos, but after that find it wonderful also ! Besides, Siepi and Berger own among the most beautiful voices ever.

  • I'm from quebec and I want to ask you to send me names of great opera singers or songs with a quick tempo

  • Magnifico!

  • Is the conductor Furtwangler or Mitropoulos? I usually admire them. Whoever it is, they have a fundamental misunderstanding of how this should be conducted; it is subdivided and slow unto almost being stillborn. Also, the impetus is not on the bouyant upbeat. The marvelous singers are trying, heaven knows!

  • furtwängler

  • @billyguns2 : this Don Giovanni (Siepi/Berger) is conducted by Furtwängler.

  • What about Ezio Pinza? He sang this with more light elegance, but Siepi is wonderful.

  • Wonderful singing - deadly slow tempo

  • Both are absolutely superb and in total harmony on this rendition.Bravo!

  • Really impressive. Not only two voices that fit exactly their roll demands, Berger and Siepi are giving a masterpiece of Mozart- singing:simplicity and expression of the dramatic situation.

  • Quite an impressive perf. in it's way. Maybe more vacillation and coyness by Zerlina in the first part. Siepi is as close to perfection as one can get. I know light baritone Dons maybe be fashionable (and justifiable in some sense) but as long as a bass has that lightness & honeyed ease up around c-sharp, d, e, he's ok in my book!

  • OK, as long as it's not a wagnerian bass, the role needs some light elegance.

  • Yeah, could you imagine Talvela, Frick, Sotin, or Ridderbusch singing this? I know I couldn't! =P

  • I don't know why, but even though this is technically a baritone role, I'd rather take a bass anytime (or bass-baritone); what do you think?

  • Yes, I agree; I much prefer a bass or bass-baritone in this role because it adds a degree of sensuality and virility that is physically not available to most baritone sounds. I wonder how Bastianini would have sounded in this role, that most virile of baritones! Siepi and Pinza are my two favorite Don Giovannis.

  • it depends on the singer.. i konow this is one of harnoncourts theories.. but hear.. compare siepi or londin with hampson and waechter..

all are good giovannis, but siepi and london are

    legends

  • What's wrong with three basses? It ROCKS! We rule! Ahahahahaha!!

    PS, I'm a bass.

  • Yes, Siepi is the best Don Giovanni, I have two of this CDs, love it.

  • Siepi is the best Don Giovanni ever! That is the fact!!

  • I'm agree, but I think he is simply THE BEST... :)

  • @kvagga1 was.

  • @kvagga1 He was the finest Bass ever for certain!

  • @kvagga1 He was the finest Bass ever for certain! He has an elegance about him missing from most giovanni's

  • "Non si picca, se sia ricca

Se sia brutta, se sia bella"

  • Well sorbino, you have to remember that the Don doesn't care if the girl he's after is unattractive or not, all that matters to him is if she's a woman.

  • I'm glad this video was brought back. This is absoluty beautiful.
