For me there are no religious people and atheists but only people with mind of an 6 years old and then those people with emotionally developed brain.This means there are childs and there are adults. Actually, you could easily argue that the abandonment of Christianity has allowed Islam to gain a stronger. By removing one religion, you create a vacuum, and something is likely to move in. As Islam is an aggressively proselytizing religion, then it is moving into the void left by the absence of Christianity.
Separation of powers is important. But you cannot simply remove one of the main buttresses of western civilization without offering something better. Islam thinks it is better (I do not think so) and will move into that void. I sometimes think we deserve what we get. Pat, it's because if you indoctrinate a child at an early enough age, then they'll always "come back." Tell them that it's good to believe without seeing because that means you've passed a spiritual test. For me there are no religious people and atheists but only people with mind of an 6 years old and then those people with emotionally developed brain.This means there are childs and there are adults. Actually, you could easily argue that the abandonment of Christianity has allowed Islam to gain a stronger. By removing one religion, you create a vacuum, and something is likely to move in. As Islam is an aggressively proselytizing religion, then it is moving into the void left by the absence of Christianity.

Separation of powers is important. But you cannot simply remove one of the main buttresses of western civilization without offering something better. If parents aren't going to teach their children about God, then they need to actively teach them morality. Right from wrong, respect for others, etc. I worry this move toward secularism is going to leave a vacuum. Pat, look, you're old, right? Do you want a world of Burgess characters roaming the subway, having never heard that it's wrong to split open someone's head 'cause you want their money? Religion was a good way, anyway, to learn the basics. I don't think most parents are up to the job.

Its not as if people walk around thinking "I wish I could rape her but I can't because of that hell thing", people, atheist or religious, are most likely moral because of a sense of decency, empathy, and the knowledge if you can't operate in society you will probably face a lot of problems. Just look at crime rates in atheistic countries like France or Japan, they don't have terrible crime rates despite being very unreligous

Pat, it's because if you indoctrinate a child at an early enough age, then they'll always "come back." Tell them that it's good to believe without seeing because that means you've passed a spiritual test. Tell them if you're really good or want to be rewarded, you'll abandon reason for blind faith and allegiance to prove your worth. Because that is what "good" people do. That is what Jesus' followers do. If you want to be good, well then, I'm afraid you'll have to abandon reason.

I am not against individual belief. But I think the Churches backing of WW1 was proof that established religion has no ability or right to lead society. I am completely against extremism but I wish people wouldn't see the issue as whites against Muslims or other such bullshit concepts. patcondell has a clear head, and he is intelligently provocative. But I fear other people might misunderstand the issue.

If people were actually living together in the same areas people wouldn't have to look to the more extreme aspects of their faith or race to find a sense of belonging, this being racism, extremist Christianity, extremist Islam. Multiculturalism has never existed because we have all been kept apart by a Governments bastardised by faith and 19th century values.
