I just want to verify that the first Khmer woman who graduated from West Point is not her in this video. The first khmer woman was Vannara Soeung. She graduated form West Point in 2008. I was there with her family prior her first year of school. She is very tall (almost 6 feet). She participated in Woman Basketball for NCAA also. She is very smart both educational and in Sport as well. I was having a plan to have her into WNBA, but thing changed.
Actually, most important is that you are a child of important figure from other countries, otherwise, the US WILL NOT accept you. A from farmer's family, will not be accepted.
She sacrificed her life for something very important not just for herself but more for our country Cambodia, She is a real roll model for other Khmer women young generation.
Late or soon, sure we will have some other Khmer students apply into this great academy.
So now you learn the basic concept of military strategy and in a democratic environment. the question is how are you planning to utilize this new skill for the betterment of the country. As a soldier, it is the duty to protect and serve our people.
She and Hun Sun's son should not be praised for anything except selling themselves out to totalitarian, oppressive, Vietnamnese-backed puppet regime known as the CPP. If she was real and true soldier she never do such a thing to her own people.
@MrDdcoy Getting recruited or bought out by the CPP "government" says it all. Saying that also means you should also praise Hun Sen's son too, since his son was the first to graduate......
I hope she brings improvement to our current military technology and sophistication. The government might not see the importance of military power but it is really significant in order not to get bullied around by other bigger countries.
West Point College is the US top military academy. For a US citizen, the requirement to get in is SAT 1100 or ACT 23. They said the application is similar for international students but instead of SAT or ACT score they used TOEFL(easy). They should have made the international students take the SAT or the ACT on top of TOEFL, that will be fair.
I think she is cute too. I'm sure she's also pretty tough minded to have been able to go through the trainings at WP. The sad part of this story is she had never gone to any Cambodian school in her life. She was preveleged to attend the International school of PP, which 99.99% of Khmer parents cannot afford for their kids to go to.
I just want to varify the REAL truth. As the lady interviewer said that "Viraek seney tor",I know in Cambodian as "Sak BUON Kanlas" but on her uniform ,I can see only "2 stribe bar" and as I know that all the officers who graduated from West Point got only "Lieutenant".I am not a jealous type of person like you maybe as you jumped into that conclusion.I am very proud of KHMER people who can achieve that hardship.
@HockeyDad81 I'm jealous because she could get in by just using TOEFL score vs using the SAT or ACT score. I'm sure we will have many more Cambodian-American entering to West Point if everyone just used the TOEFL score.
@drbun actually, youre very wrong about that. every foreign cadet has to take the SAT before entering. check your sources before making wild assumptions
@henryworshipper222 I'm wrong but not very wrong. You are correct, everyone including international students have to take the SAT. I found this out after I post the reply and didn't care to delete the post (shrug). Again, it was an assumption but I have many...like what are the odd of two sibling (international) from "Cambodia-corrupted country <-assumption?." going to one of America top Military school. Maybe they are smart....perhaps:) Again...as you would say "WILD Assumptions".
Anyway, I'm proud of her for finishing and I think that's what count. I've shared this story with my brother to perhaps motivate him to go to college. If a Cambodian woman can get into America top military school whey can't he.
@kniom245 You should listen to the lady Lieutenant colonel explaining to the interviewer ,how she got scholarship from West Point .You don't know the USA education system ( That mean you are ignorant) .You are jealous of her intelligent and her 's family .You have a communism mentality .

I am very inspired by your talent and ability, not to mention your determination to succeed.
I myself was unable to graduate from typical school like Cal State Long Beach. Hopefully I can turn my shame and embarrassment around to some degree.
