why arent the roads leading up to the house paved? dirt roads add a ghetto -ish feel - how could that have been overlooked - they went all out on all else
I can really see myself living life in this place called Shangri-La. And for me to believe this, I've thought about some of the steps to do so. In a nutshell, it centers on creating a Shangri-La teaching center that heals the mind, body and soul thru educational hands-on retreats. Of what I know of the owner, I'd consider it a "passing of the baton". After all, sound wave healing would be one of several things practiced.
I discovered this place through my newfound interest in Monolithic Domes.
las animas is waaaaaay the heck out past pueblo colorado.great if you like alot of seclusion.hours of driving :) and, they dont want to give a price probably because its really expensive.so much for "earth friendly affordable housing".think about it,if its so fast and "cheap" to make, why dont they give a price?and,i certainly wouldnt buy something from coldwell banker partners.key words *banker partners*
omg, 20 years ago... i musta seen a dome house. we always used to poke fun at it and called it the mushroom house :P this was somewhere in applevalley, or hesperia. didn't know they were that old. wow. looks neat though. reminds me of super mario world :P dome city!
This is a beautiful interconnected monolithic dome home on a bluff with 6 bedrooms, 2 baths, and 5,863 square feet of living space. It is on 40 acres and it near Aguilar, CO. It has wonderful acoustics throughout! This home is very energy efficient and it is impervious to the weather! It has been appraised for $1M and it is currently for sale for $350,000! Feel free to contact Michael Wenzl with Coldwell Banker Partners at (719) 250-8181 or at mwenzl@juno.com
@1961ang Hello! There is a closet in each bedroom. They just were not in the video. Feel free to contact me with any other questions. The new asking price is $350k! Thank you, Michael Wenzl, Coldwell Banker Partners. 719-250-8181 or mwenzl@juno.com
@hooya1111 Domes are possibly the strongest type of structure to survive a tornado and even earthquakes too. Of course it depends on the construction techniques used in this particular example, but put an egg longways between your hands and try to crush it with all your worth and you'll discover the inherent strength that dome structures have.
We got these domes over here in CZ - they were built in the 1930s as bunkers with steel reinforeced one meter thick walls. Germans (after they occupied us) tried to blow one up...They bombarded it with 250mm rail guns...they blasted on the top or were deflected. They got furious...and tried air bombing it with a 2000kg bomb...it slid over the side, buried in the soil and moved it 1cm to the east. Then they put 5000kg of TNT under it...it lifted 1.5 meters up and fell back intact.
The Dome shape is specifically used to build hurricane/tornado proof structures. The rounded walls and edges can take up to 400 times stronger winds than the strongest ones measured in hurricanes, compared to that of a straight wall of your average building, which unlike the seamless construction of the domes, is built out of many interlocking parta that can be easily torn to pieces.
@ArthurC42 think it comes down to material not just shape. how does it hold in earthquake? seems as though might crack pritty easy, and once integrity slightly lost come tumbling down like a house of cards.
There is actually a video here somewhere, which I dont feel like searching for now.. where a bunch of architects and scientists put the basic frame of a dome house, through a quake simulator, and it survived every major earthquake that has happened in the world that had wrecked havoc to the places it took place in.
Even if the dome were to "crack", the simple fact that all of its walls "lean" against eachother, means that it is much harder for it to collapse.
And in the event of an unlikely collapse, the material is much, much lighter than what you find in your average modern building. Also, because of the curves, it would naturally create many pockets, witchin which people could survive unharmed.
The reason houses fall/break during a quake, is because they are tall and have straight walls. They wobble and shake and eventually snap, like a tree in strong wind. The dome structure naturally counters that kind of movement within itself.
Aaaaand.. simple example. If you take a box, with 90* degree angles, and stand on it.. the slightest movement to any side, will cause the box to get crushed under your weight.. basically being folded into a pile of walls.
But if you take something that is the same size, and made out of the same material.. but has the dome shape.. you can pretty much jump and dance on it, and it will take way more effort to crush that structure. It's quite clear, the dome is much much stronger :)

I Really Want One Of These. These Houses Are The Best To Have! I, Corey Blackmon, Draw To Me A Monolithic Dome Home! I Thank The Universe For My Monolithic Dome Home. So It Is!
I live in a small dome right now...oh, how wonderful it would be to have this complex of domes...a dream come true...I would rather it be in New Mexico though...but just as far from civilization as this one...
I think I would grow "virginia Creepers" over top of it to make it blend into the mountainside...[more "green]
Just give it an extra top coat to protect from the vines and would serve as camouflage... We have them on our [front/side porch and on a 6' chain link fence], in the summer you would never know the porch and back fence were there... they grow really fast to... OR maybe grape vines, cucumber vines or other vines that grow food [grow a garden over it]????? mmmmm????
It looks unusual. I like it.
