  • John Wayne died from stomach cancer, not lung cancer.

  • Unfortunately John Wayne died of stomach cancer on 11th June 1979. He was 72 years old.

His cancer probably originated from an earlier tumour found on his left lung in 1964. The lung was removed and John was diagnosed as 'cancer free'. John carried on working and but was often breathless as a result of only having one lung and had to given oxygen during breaks following gruelling scenes. Sadly, his cancer returned only this time it couldn't be beaten. God always be with you John Wayne.

  • Youtube REALLY has to do SOMETHING to fix this damned post button for comments. I REALLY HATE when I try to post a comment on a video , only to get the " ERROR , TRY AGAIN " message and THEN find that my comment was posted not just ONCE , BUT THREE FRIGGIN' TIMES IN A ROW!!!!

  • Just to let people know , ( Not trying to attract any negative comments ) John Wayne died from STOMACH cancer ,not lung cancer.

  • @darkstar1977a much as i loved smoking, cigarettes simply eat you up inside; i'm no oncologist, but likely his lung cancer metastasized in his stomach. if u smoke, please please quit; there's lots of things to help make that horrid transition much easier nowadays; when wayne quit, there was only one's willpower, an ineffectual opponent to ferociously addictive nicotine, which is harder to kick than heroin, or so i've heard--

  • john wayne might of been a smoker but i believe he might got sick on a movie he did also. some of the stars i heard on the same movie got sick as well.

  • my uncle maybe was sick many times with other health problems and with smoke but really the cancer did not show up until the last minute until almost close to his death. the lungs were already mostly bad long before the spot ever showed up. when the spot came it spread and made his life cut short real quicky. there was very little they could do for him. he fought hard but maybe john and my uncle would have maybe rather died like a cowboy getting rid all the bad guys around them.

  • you may live a good many years while still smoking and going to the doc but remember it will catch up with you soon or later. expect staying more time in the hospital hook up with breathing machines. needles, taing many pills especially it will be worser if you have other problems on top of it. i've seen my uncle back and forth . he was strong but the cancer one . you can not play with fire all the time. it will catch up to you . only you can make the change . little steps and stay healthy

  • well spoken john. i wish my uncle could have listen to you more and to me. lost my uncle to smoke. my uncle had lost 40 percent most all his lungs. only was about 10 percent left in his lungs. they had a found a spot on him but they could not save him depending where the spot was and his age. i watch him die in the hospital. he dried up like a prune. after he was dead he looked like someone had been dead for a while all dried up and shrink with his size.

  • Tony26531 Dont make comments on something you dont know and more than likely was never born when Wayne was alive.

  • Cancer causing agents are in just about everything. From brake pads to coffee. An adverage ciggarette contains 200-300 cancer causing agents. A 12oz cup of coffee contains over 800 cancer causing agents. Breathing in burnt plant matter of any kind can cause cancer, whether its cigarettes or leaves. It causes tiny liasons in your throat and lungs that can develop into cancer. Cancer is apart of the realality of life. Something will kill us in the end and we don't have a choice what it is.

  • @CamaroAmx

You must have a job with the tobacco industry to trot this shameful 'logic' out in public.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer wish i worked for the tobacco industry (maybe i should look into that career path. lol), maybe i'd get my cig cheaper or free.

However, the truth does hurt. a little research works wonders. yes cigs are bad for you. yes they are addicting (and can be harder to quit then heroin). But its a personal choice of what people decide to do with their bodies, even if some else disagrees with it. as long as it doesn't hurt anyone directly (cig smoke can be avoided).

  • @CamaroAmx

If you don't work for them, then the only remaining excuse for your post is stupidity.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer And i've been smoking for 20 years and my lungs are fine, according to the doctors. Just some high blood pressure (which runs in my family).

  • @CamaroAmx

Your doctors are lying to you. After 20 years of such abuse, your lungs cannot be "fine." You perhaps don't have tumors growing there (yet), but certainly your lung capacity is nothing approaching what a healthy person your age will have. You likely cannot run or walk nearly as far as someone your age who does not smoke. Rest assured, smoking related ailments WILL affect you eventually, even if you manage to dodge lung cancer.

  • He got cancer from one of the movies they were filming something in the air got into his lungs and caused cancer my mom and i are big fans of john wayne and we are always looking up info of him on the internet!

  • @2506jordan

Right, "something in the air." The chemicals from the cigarettes he was smoking, to be more precise.

  • Among the 220 or so cast and crew who filmed the 1956 film, The Conqueror, on location near St. George, Utah, 91 at various times developed some form of cancer (41%), including stars Wayne, Susan Hayward, and Agnes Moorehead, and director Dick Powell. The film was shot in southwestern Utah, east of and generally downwind from the site of recent U.S. Government nuclear weapons tests in southeastern Nevada. Many believe the crew was poisoned by the contaninated by the radioactive fallout.- Wiki.

  • 1 Billion dollars a year and 40 years later. Still no cure. Wake up America.

  • @websuspect Yup. If they find a cure, their out of a job! So it's never going to happen.

  • Did he have lung cancer or Stomach cancer?

  • @Mr508films both, he had a lung removed then died from stomach cancer

  • @Tmartin1438, and he didn't get it from smokeing, it was from radiation. From what I've read He had been filming a movie near an area where Nucular Bombs were being detonated by the US Military. Every one who worked on the film died of cancer.

  • @GESSO217 No, not everyone. Do you even know how many cigarettes he smoked a day for years of his life? Im sure that contributed to his death =(

  • @xxcharmed1xx he was known to smoke 6 packs a day. But there is evidence that he was exsposed to radiation while filming The Conqueror in 1956. Of the 220 people on location, 91 of them eventualy got cancer. I'm sure the smoking didn't help.

  • @CamaroAmx Ok then, the smoking and drinking attributed to his cancer. However, he is a legend and i miss him.

  • @GESSO217 - are you for real??? Don't talk stupid.

  • @Donald6899 It's what I read. Supposedly while filming a movie miles away from the detonation site they were exposed to fallout from the bomb tests. I don't know if there's any real truth to it but it is possible. Nobody knew jack shit about the effects of radiation at that time. He had a large tumor removed from his lung, I don't think tumors develop from smokeing(not a doctor). Course smokeing didn't help him either.

  • @GESSO217

Given the content of your message, you really felt it necessary to inform us that you're not a doctor?

  • @Mr508films

    He had soul cancer.

  • He beat the lung cancer but it was the stomach cancer that got him.Considering the technology in those days he's lucky to have lived as long as he did.Smoking is very dangerous.Having cancer causing agents circulating throughout your body for years you can get oral cancer, pancreas, throat not just lung cancer. You run a high risk of stroke and heart attack.I wonder how much of that smoking he did contibute contribute to him devolping stomach cancer if at all.

  • Drinking so much whisky was probably also a factor.

  • to shamrock32--if you are listening--JohnRogersly aka Obama4ever akaPeterfirthfan is a 14 year old homosexual who is angry at the world and posting nasty comments about dead actors is the only way he can get any release--because his mommy won't allow gay boys in his house.

  • To JohnRogersly--you young gay ass-a lot of people still smoke and drank today--what do you mean--"everybody smoked and drank then" it hasn't stopped with wayne's death--stu-pid! You think cigerettes and alcohol don't exist today--you are a young faggot idiot!

  • Patrick Swayze and Keith Floyd have both just died from smoking.

  • The conventional wisdom today says his stomach cancer (which is what killed him) was likely caused by ingesting radio-active isotopes while on set of the The Conqueror. Whether or not that's true, we all have to consider we are exposed to 30 years or more of atmospheric testing and all the fallout deadly for some 24 thousand years. Could explain all the brain tumors going around these days...

  • Richard Nixon killed John Wayne !! Hemp oil = cancer cure !!!! 420 Rick Simpson - Run from the cure !

  • Nah, it was definitely from smoking 100 cigarettes a day.

  • There, were 222 people from the cast and crew of "The Conqueror" of that 91 of them developed some type of cancer. It's safe to say the film site exposed them to radation fallout. John Wayne most likely developed cancer from this.

  • Nah, it's an urban myth. Most of the cast and crew of "The Caine Mutiny" died of cancer as well. Everyone smoked and drank a lot then, and Wayne blazed his way through six packs of cigarettes a day.

  • I must respectifuly disagree

  • Cigarettes are safer than marijuana! Join the fight; end marijuana abuse!

  • I still believe his stomach & lung cancer was caused from the filming of "The Conqueror", but having a 6 pack a day habit didn't help much either. Still, it was a great move on his part to film these ads.

  • I remeber when this add aired.

  • tamesidecitizen.blogspot

  • he sure is right on this one, it killed him, and look how long it took if he had onlt quit after they got it all, he may have lived a bit longer

  • I miss John Wayne!!

  • @Firefly2466

Why don't you go look for him?

  • @Pizuzuzimmer, like you look for Satan with your head wedged up his ass?

  • @GodCreatesGays2

Oh, look, the cum-stained pedophile is now stalking me on YouTube. Sorry, sperm boy, but I'm not your type. You'll have to go back to your sordid pages on AIDS-infected vermin who are seeking to infect others via rectal injections for what you seek.

How much time do the doctors give you?

  • @Pizuzuzimmer sobs, "I'm not your type."

Of course you're not. I prefer sane, rational, educated, humane human beings, and you fail on every count, as much as that truth sends you into an incoherent rage...hence your continuing to soil yourself in public in youtube forums.

  • @GodCreatesGays2

You prefer semen-dripping, shit-covered cocks to ram into your mouth and anus by the dozens. "Soiling" would be something about which you know a thing or two, eh, you diseased invert?

  • @Pizuzuzimmer, see, this is why no human being would consent to have anything to do with you, and why you're left with your fist as your only friend.

    Chucklin'.

  • @GodCreatesGays2

As though you would know the slightest thing about "human beings." You and the other animals you cluster fuck scarcely even get into the same solar system of the definition.
