I wish someone would point out to maria when she tries to portray investors as the "average American" that 34% of all stock in this country is owned by upper1% of people. 75% of all stock and 98% of all bonds are owned by upper 10 % of the people. 50 % of the people have 0 investments of any kind. The 40% in the middle own 25% of stock in pensions subject to their companies claiming bankruptcy and having a judge strip it all away to protect the "average American" investor.
The analogy I love is, how about we devise a system that pays doctors more if they don't treat you. Because that is EXACTLY the mentality of the health insurance industry...and I'm not even blaming them for this...they're a for profit business and making $, taking care of stake/stock holders should be their priority...just get them out of my healthcare!
Problem with Corporate Ran Health Care or Insurance Ran Health Care, is there is no free market...its all about the US Senators on the take of lobbyist and bad ethics that has led this Nation to the private sector of losing control over the Corporate Sector and the Govt the way laws are made.
we are a nation of laws, and that is 1 nation under god, not two , one4 republicans and none 4 the rest , or Democracy not being a Principle or a right for all which is founding principle for peace2 exist
Yes, Maria, business IS good...a free market is good (w/ oversight), supply & demand... is good...yes, we all know this and agree w/ you Maria. But competition is also good, is it not? Plus, as Ant' said, it's about who is the middle man handling the money...and profiting by denying coverage.
3:46 - Weiner said he's here to fight for the taxpayer (which ultimately includes investors). Maria said she's fighting for the investor (and leave the rest of us behind).
This is the core difference between these two, which is why Maria looked like an ass in this discussion.
Another one bites the Dusta!! Joe, then the little lady who is defending the investers not the taxpayer as she said under her breath at the end of the interview.
i wouldn't give the white house any credit for mr. weiner's hard work. He is the only democrat that I have seen fighting for what we voted for. obama is backing down big time on his promise. its so dissapointing. rep. weiner has been arguing with republicans not just taking the easy way out and staying just on msnbc. he has been on fox and morning joe.
Thank god i am Canadian because noone in my country would EVER dream of giving up our Single Payer system.
Mr Weiner, you are an important figure in the democratic party. You really know your stuff and it is clear Marina had no interest in hearing the facts...as she says she is only looking out for the investor...clearly she wasnt hearing what you were saying.
But damn she's HOT! But its sad to see someone so blatantly against the support of the American people and their healthcare.
That horrible woman just does not seem to get it. It's as though she's seen the previous interviews and thought 'Oh damn, they got slammed by Weiner..." and so her approach is to just NEVER GIVE UP. Basically drown out every fact and example, continue spewing half-truths and use empty rhetoric and basically wait until the segment is over.
As a Canadian, I seriously can't understand some portion of America's public being opposed to free health care. It's actually mind boggling.
"I'm here to fight for the investor." I think that says it all. Guess who has obscenely large amounts of health insurance stock? CEOs of health insurance companies. Three quarters of a billion worth in some cases. Guess who doesn't have any health insurance stock. MILLIONS of American taxpayers. Most of them. You are a shill for billionaire CEOs and pretend to be concerned for the people, but I think you just outed yourself there.
Weiner gives the best response I've heard to the complaint that a public option would entail a `government takeover' of health care: ``Oh, stop it.'' The `government takeover' argument merits no further credence.
"why is it so damn difficult for other Democrats to do what he's doing here?"
Most politicians are too busy trying to get re-elected. They're too scared of pissing off the big corporations to stand up for what they know is right.
The irony of it is that by speaking truth to power and representing the people, Weiner's seat is probably the safest in Congress.
I'll bet anyone out there that he gets re-elected (I'll donate my winnings to his campaign fund)...
Yes, I know all that stuff. I'm talking about the ones who are in safe seats, the ones who are decidedly liberal. Weiner's the only one I've seen go on FOX News and kick some ass.
It takes an unusually strong and confident person to stand up to Fox on their home turf - they have a way of stacking the deck, talking over people, and making enemies look bad.
Maybe Weiner should teach other Democrats how to take on the beast...
Lol Anthony, bragging, are we? And by "some of us are being very aggressive." Do you mean..... you? Because you are honestly the only democrat going around on news channels making a real, strong argument for real health care reform.
