  • First of all I really like the videos you've posted of the Vintage Modern 2266. I'm getting myself one soon and especially this video has helped me choosing the amplifier and the cabinet as well. However I got a little confused about your Vintage Modern(s). On the Marshall Amp Shootout video it says that the amp is 2466 instead of 2266 so I am not sure which it is. I'm definitely getting myself the 2266 and I'd like to know if the 50 watts is enough with a cabinet with 4 G12T-75s.

  • Why the jubilee cab and the 1960A sound different if they have the same speakers??????????

  • Great Demo! my fav are the greenbacks (seems to bring out some plexi-tone)

  • I've heard the 100 watt V/M will give you an all together diffferent tone.

  • I really disliked the 1960a in this vid. :s The vintage 30's sounded way better for modern rock. I might have to go with that stiletto cab after all

  • Thanks for the fantastic demo. I've messed with a ton of cabs and speaker combos, and the scary thing is perfectly illustrated here: identical speakers in nearly identical cabinets can sound very different. G12T75's can sound great in one 4X12 and thin/piercing in another 4X12. I'll be deaf by the time I find the perfect speaker/combination.Currently leaning towards V-30's and WGS 55Khz G12h with the JCM-800. I also have a pair of speakers in a 1978 2X12 Marshall that I cant identify. HELP!

  • Excellent video!!! I found that the Greenbacks sound like Scorpions (excellent!!!), the Slash cab sounds like Slash and (to my ears) the G12T-75s sound awful! I have a 1960A with G12T-75s and have replace two of them with V30 clones. It helps, but am afraid that I'm going to have to get some Greenbacks (I'd love a 1960TV)... I found it very, very interesting how different the Slash cabinet and the Legacy sounded with the only real differenc in how the speakers are loaded (front vs. rear).

  • @BB2009LZ hi. a question, did you changed your g12t 75 with other speakers? and maybe did you mixed them for example vg30 and gt1275 ? i would like to change or mix mines, and i need some help.. thx

  • i have to admit: this amp sound FANTASTIC with the G12c.. i have g12t75 wich i guess sound better for modern metal tone, and g12c for vintage classic sound.

  • really liked the greenbacks and actually, the g12T-75's and V30's too! considering a marshall cab with g12T-75's can be found fairly easy, I think I'll try and fetch one if buy a vintage modern!

  • Definitely the marshall vintage 30 slash had the best tone, great mids and low end. Thanks for the great video!

  • It's awesome! Great job!

I can hear the difference between the cabs clearly...

Great guitar riff? is it homemade??

  • Vintage 30's sound amazing!!! what a great little video

  • @gponter79 Agreed. The 30s sounded amazing and most pleasant to my ears!

  • You can really hear the difference between the marshall vintage 30 and the celestion. The marshall ones tend to be a little smoother and more bottom end. They are slightly different

  • Wow. This head is really picky with respect to its speakers - LOVE the sound with the VM speakers, and to a lesser extent, the JCM Slash cab, but I despise every other cabinet with this amp. But I guess it's all about getting the mix right - these things sound downright godly with the VM cabinet.

  • Hi. I've currently got a Mesa Dual Rectifier which I use at home with a THD and it's dead quiet when I stop playing. I was thinking about getting this head aswell but was wondering if you get any noise from it?

  • @bigeddie38 I've got a Mesa Mark III and a Vintage Modern 50 watt that I run through a 2x12 and it gets everything from clean Plexi to hotrodded Plexi and SLO tones from! Its a great compliment to the Mesa. Goodbye Orange Tiny Terror! The VM also records AWESOME!

  • Nice demo, my favotrites are the vintage 30's the perfect mix of lows and highs.

  • @AASTRANGE I agree, the 30's had a nix mix, and a mid range growl!

  • Very insightful demo. I was originally told cabinet speakers don't make a difference in sound. Obviously, that was a false statement. Really digging on the G12T-75's. Going to pick some up and see what I've been missing out on. Thanks for the informative vid.

  • 1960A and 425A sound best to me... Don't like the 2x12's really, out of them I like the 1936 best.

Good vid. Shows that cabinets really make a HUGE difference.

  • GREAT DEMO! No effects or other stuff to color the true tone, just guitar, amp, speakers. Thanks!

  • @DBAmichael Thats what I was going for

  • The first cab sounds great, the slash cab sounds kinda muddy, the G12T-75 cab sounds not bad, the Carvin Legacy cab sounds a bit muddy, the peavy cab sounds a bit muddy and kinda harsh, the Silver Jubilee sounds good, the 1936 is sounds the best of all the V30 cabs, the 1922 sounds also okay, the fender cab doesn't sound bad but there's a lack of top end.

The first one is the best imo.

  • sounds thin and tinny

  • @dusted04 Not in my ears ...

  • @gtrmanno after listning to it a second time it dosnt sound half bad !!

i used to own one of these and a jcm 800 2203 both great amps the 2203 was the better one bye far !!

but i sold them and got a diezel vh4 . now thats tone !

  • @dusted04 you're listening to it through a camera and then computer speakers or headphones, what do you expect

  • how loud is it when the master volume is on 4? are you in room with the amp?

  • @manubro1 Not that loud. The VM is very forgiving :-) I am right there !

  • i found it played best in the peavey cab..even if i personally have a cab with v30's

  • Thanks man, excellent video, you couldn't have done it better.

    Awesome.

  • @thano2000 Thanxs :-)

  • Very good demo. I use two cabs, you know I run stereo, one 1960 with g12t-75's the 1960 with vin 30's. I get an amazing sound. I like the demo of the Fender cab. But I struggle with Emenince speakers. I have 2 4/12 with lady lucks in them. I wish someone would take them off my hands. For me it's Marshall or nothing. But to each his own. Every guitar player needs to find their own sound.

  • @orcustrex Yes .. find out what works for you and you have YOUR sound

  • The G12Cs sound the best

  • ya i gotta say that since there are no mids being used on the demo and the head is still crunching like crazy this is a bad ass head i just dunno if i want this or the JVM210HCF Head out of celestion speakers anyone have some advice

  • @Sean2592

Hard choices .. personally I dont really like the JVM that much. I had one but sold it ... found it a little lifeless.

Others do like it .. you just have to try them both and see for yourself.

  • No pedals?

  • @victor1997ification

No ... better for the demo that way.

  • why cant you have a ENGL E412SS cabinet and put some demos online. wish i could find out how this amp sounds with my cabinet

  • @Diehardslashfan

Don't have any plans for that .. just continue google and maybe somebody will do one.

  • Argh, trenger nok å skifte ut mitt 1960A cab med en 1960 som har V30's eller Greenbacks. Litt for mye diskant/High-end med 75w celestion høyttalerne i 1960A kabinettet,

  • @RickyboyH

Jeg begynte med G12T-75 ... gikk over til V30 etterhvert .. men er nå over på Greenbacks ...

  • Carvin Legacy makes my dick BIGGER !!!

  • Great review! It really showed the tonal differences!

  • Urgh! I'm stuck between the Marshall 425A Celestion G12C Greenbacks(1st cabinet) and the Marshall 1960 A Celestion G12T-75(3rd cabinet).

    HELP!

  • @Elsoddo Depends what u like soundwise. As you can hear they all sound different. Go for the one yu like the most. Also depends on music style. The 12T75's have a more modern sound & are more agressive - less mids - more bottom. Greenbacks a more old school rock - blues etc ... It's all personal preference ...

  • @gtrmanno Hey man are these handwired???

  • @Elsoddo or you can get a cab and put 2 greenbacks and 2 g12t-75 mix it up a little

  • @Elsoddo

They are very different cabs ... can't really help ... u have to pick what sounds best for you :-)

  • GREENBACKS WIN!

  • Comment removed

  • Those greenbacks sound fantastic. Classic rock heaven

  • those peaveys sound like poop D:

the 1960a sounds great as well as the 425

  • It's awesome! Great job!

I can hear the difference between the cabs clearly...

My opinion is that the VM cabinets doesn't have as much fat tone as the Vintage '30 Slash cab... But you are right the 2266 head has the original vintage tone with the VM cabinet...

  • Great video, I've heard nothing but good things about this amp. I'm in the market to buy a Marshall myself, and I've been leaning towards a DSL. However, I've seen quite a few VMs on e-bay in my price range. I was curious, would you say the VM could match the gain of a DSL? I know they're both good, which one do you prefer?

  • the first cabinet was my favorite sound

  • wow speaker cabs do make a diffence along with the wood there made of. i really liked the tone of the vintage 30s (slash ) the most !

  • do i really have to use a box or is the head enough??? so the head just works good without the box .im asking that because im about to buy the vt. and all the online shops suggest to buy a certain box with it.sorry i am a noob.

  • @anuar1978 What do you mean by box? If you are talking about the "box" the head is sitting on, that is the speaker cabinet. The head does not contain speakers, it's just an amplifier. If you buy the head you will need a speaker cabinet as well. If you buy the combo version, which is the amp and speakers all in one, you will not need to buy a speaker cabinet.

  • Once again top job. Amazing to hear the difference in speakers!!!!!!! The 10 guitar shootout was awesome as well.

P.S. How do you think the Vintage Modern cuts it against the new MA series?

  • @JTM45stratman VM wins hands down ....

  • @JTM45stratman A Head needs a speaker cabinet. Or you could buy a combo that has a head and speakers in the same package.

  • @gtrmanno I'm now looking at a Ceriatone 100w plexi. Nik (at Ceriatone) built my JTM45 which I used to run with Greenbacks and it was awesome!!! Better than the reissue Bluesbreaker I used to have. I think I'll have to get a master volume put though. Cant decide wether the 50 or 100w..... neither will get used at full volume!

  • @JTM45stratman The VM is just that much better. The MA is an OK amp but it's more an entry level Marshall.

  • Does ANYBODY know how to set the ohms on a Marshall stack 1960s and the Vintage amp? Do you go 16, 16, 16 or 8 on the head and 16 and 16?

  • @davidlanham99 Always use the same. If the speaker is 8 use the 8 on the amp. 16 on speaker = 16 on amp. If u connect 2 cabs use 16 on both cabs and 8 on the amp.

  • @gtrmanno so, with 8, 16, 16 you're getting half the resistance from the amp, to cover too cabinets? I'm doing 16, 16, 16 now. That's going to screw it up by working the amp too hard?

  • @gtrmanno Just add the 2 impedances serially: 1/16 + 1/16 = 1/8 so 8 ohms ;)

  • Ok, I give up. Why do the 425 greenback 25 watt speakers sound better and cost more, than the 1960 75 watt celestions? The 1960 is 300 watts and the 425 is only 100 watts.

  • @davidlanham99 Well the amount of watts have nothing to do with price of a speaker. It's the specs and quality.

  • @gtrmanno Why are the greenbacks better, and why are they only 25 watts? i still do not understand this stuff lol.

  • ladies and gentelman the slash vintage 30 is the winner !!!

  • Also the lower tuning your in here (Eb) will beef up the sound

  • i like the JSX cab

  • slash cab wins, and not because it says slash on it, loved the beefier and creamier tone...

  • To me, the 425A sounded the best! I have the 2x12 combo of the VM with those G12Cs and a Marshall MC212 with 'specially-voiced 12" 65W Celestions'. I love the way G12Cs give a nice open-but-midrangey sound, the REAL Marshall-tone. The extra cabinet is just for looks. :D

  • @ArttuAce I agree, it's obvious about the 425 sounding better. But I'm wondering if that's just from the settings and the YouTube making it just sound better.

  • What guitar are you using?

  • @IPlayGuitarEh As it's stated at the start of the clip. A Gibson Les Paul Custom.

  • clear winner for me is 1960 A. never thought g12t-75 would win. the vintage 30 had no clarity.

  • very good demo man!

  • Hey can you run a small 30 watt marshall solid state amp through a cabinet like this?

  • @gosaints1223 Yes ... just make sure the OMH is set correctly.

  • @gosaints1223 Yes .. just make sure the OHM is set correctly

  • convenient, thanks

  • Liked the slash cab the best :)

  • @MrDynamite18 I use it live all the time !

  • Vintage 30's rule!

  • wow man! great video! i was thinking about what (slash) sound would go best with the vintage modern.,.and i actually think the 1960 with G12T-75's would go do the job of the appetite for destruction sound..you think so two?? grtz

  • @jeudhas Yes i agree because in the late 80s when he recorded his guitar tracks for appetite he use a marshall 1960 4x12 with G12-75s (which have a much heaver tone to them) then when he recorded Use Your illusion (1+2) he use a Marshall 4x12 with vintage 30s for a more cleaner brighter distortion. (all were celestion brand speakers)

  • @jeudhas Slash uses V30 speakers so that will be closer but the G12T-75's will work as well. Just remember to add lots of mids on the amp when using the G12's

  • I liked the JSX cab the best

  • I thought the Carvin sounded the best, which surprised me since I'm a Marshall guy through and through. The Peavey was the worst.

  • this is a nice amp head, and the playing is good, but it sounded really cold and sterile. i know its just the quality of the video, and not the amp, but i thought id point out the obvious to anyone thinking about buying this amp thats its definitely gonna have a more lively sound in person. no offense to gtrmanno. the playing is good. just the quality of the recording. but its really interesting to see how different it sounds through the different cabinets. even with the asme speakers in some.

  • @greendayrokr Using a videocam the sound quality will not be up to par, but as say it is very easy to hear the differences between the cabs .. which was the reason I did this video.

  • @gtrmanno nice job kool vid 2

  • i prefer vintage 30s and the slash vintage 30s were my fave...t75s sound too fizzy and trebly for me...

  • Thasnks for this video! This really helped put things clear to me! Now I know I must buy my 2466 head with the VM 425A Cabinet!

  • i like peavey :)

  • piękne.....

  • Prefered the greenback 425a cab

  • Is the Marshall Silver Jubilee the same or smaler than the Marshall MG412 cabinet?

  • great demo. I like the 1922. It's funny how a Marshall head into a Fender cab can sound so....Fendery.

  • was that a little bit bit of the final countdown solo i heard at the very end?

  • Oh yes ;-)

  • I like the vintage modern cabinet, the jcm slash cabinet, 1936v, 1922, and the 1960a. the one i liked the least was the carvin legacy, the mids were very harsh.

  • ..and others prefer the Carvin cabinets. Sometimes the differences are all personal preference. Go with what works best for you !

  • Thank you for taking the time to do this. It has helped me make a decision on what speakers I want. Much appreciated...

  • lol its a good fit on the jubilee cab

  • Thanks man.

This vid was really eye opening for me.

  • cheers for this. regardless of the head it demonstrates the clear differences between cabs and speakers. good on you

  • I love the 1960A, such a tight sound.

But the 425a VM cab was pretty sweet aswell...

I wonder how they will sound both together...

  • i was going to buy a 1960 cab... until i saw this vid

  • i've heard these vm's sound amazing through 1960TV's. Ihaven't played one yet, but i will.

  • I think it will sound pretty similiar to the 425's

  • Nice post. I am also a huge fan of the VM 425 cabs. Check out my video paired with my Bogner Classic. I've got tons of cabs as well - will do a comparison of my G12H AHW Marshall cab.

  • Greenbacks FTW!

  • I have to say that out of all these cabs, the 2x12" 1936v cab is probably the best sounding cab in this comparison. At least to me it does. The Slash Vintage 30 cab sounds quite good, as does the G12c cab. Don't like the G12-75's at all. Much too grindy/harsh. Love the sound of the 2x12" 1936v cab; it has the magic!

  • Have to agree with you there...

If I was going to blindly buy a VM and cab based on this video, it would definitely be the 1936V...

Only cab that really sounded like it had some fat to it...

  • Yeah, "fat" is the word I'd use also, to describe the sound of this particular 1936 cab. For some reason, it just seems to have a nice tight, fat sound. This is a great video; I'm glad someone finally had the insight to do a good Celestion comaprison/demonstration.

    Cheers buddy!

  • Thanxs .. :-)

I would have loved to see something similar before I got mine that's why I did it ...

  • Greenbacks for me. much crisper and thicker but maybe more mids needed on that cab if you weren't comparing.

  • Obviously I would dial in the eq towards whatever cab I am using if I am playing on one particular cab.

  • HOLY CRAP you got a lot of cabinets! I like the vintage 30's, gives a better bottom end chunk. But greenbacks sound killer too. That amp sounds good through about anything!

  • can never have too many ... Marshall Dave Mustain cab next ...

  • i like the 425A best. what riff are you playing in this??

  • Just something I played around with. Maybe I should write a song with it .. hehe

  • greenbacks sound the best to me

  • Have you tried a JVM series? Which did you like better

  • Tried the JVM but sold it .. didnt like it at all. Good cleans but found the amp sterile. It was OK but not much more...

  • Great video. really want that amp head. lol

  • er du norsk? det er kult! hvilken by?

forresten du er heldig med den gibson les paul custom gitaren din! har lyst på jeg også

  • Oslo... Custom gitaren er feeeet !

  • The G12C's in the 425A were my favorites for the robust midrange.

  • you shoulda done an orange cab

  • carvin legacy has very nice sound. fender should be good too (with strat)

  • i alway knew the celestion g12 greenbacks were the speakers for me thx man :)

  • awesome video.....

  • Great video! Shows the 75's are clearly inferior to even the Peavy speakers! I have to either get me some Greenbacks for my 1960B, or buy a 425B cab for my 2266!

  • brilliant video...im not keen on the t75s..they sound fizzy..too trebly whereas the vintage 30s on the carvin always come through lush.t75s malmsteens fave

  • Brad...do you hear differences between Marshall 1960 Vintage 30 and Carvin Legacy Vintage 30 loaded ?

  • not too many really...from this video i would be keen to get vintage 30s..i was always keen..they are supposed to be very popular...they mentioned on the celestion website alot

  • Dam you like your cabs... so many!!!

425A was the best IMO. Great vid.

  • Excellent vid/demo
