I think if a lot of Americans realized that marriage/love doesn't mean finding the "right person" or our "soul mate", it means changing ourselves to be compatible with our partners, we wouldn't have a > 50% divorce rate. It's our pride and arrogance that causes us to want others to conform to our desires instead of changing ourselves to meet their desires. If BOTH partners do this, then the relationship will work!
